A little history and a lesson in how to dress well for you all. This is a photo of my father and all of his brothers. My father is middle row on the right. Pff, I dress in ways your prehistoric caveman mind cannot even begin to comprehend. Anyway, those are some fine happy gentlemen in this picture, and those are neat mustaches! *tips hat*

Did a hike today plus 18 and sunny, very warm for a few days. Took a few photos. I believe these ducks are 'Common Mergansers' The river ice is breaking up fast. I also saw a nice snake, pretty long about 18 inches, not sure what type probably a Garter snake. Did not get a photo of it however.

Is this saying that Beerfish is an Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer? Beerfish is many terrible and disgusting things - and this is indeed one of them. It's all true. Dude is my fucking hero, even though he can't use a Claymore to save his life. When you had your shoulder repaired, how extensive was the damage? Reading your recovery and knowing mine, I feel that some of my issues are explained by age and yet I still don't have near the function or strength I should have. My left arm is becoming beastly, but I prefer just being a beast

I once had some shoulder issues, but there was no surgery involved, I did lots of my own recovery work with weights and proper mobility training to get all my functions back. Took a while though. When you stand straight with arms relaxed at your sides, and then you extend your thumbs, where do your thumbs point? Straight forward, or at a 45° or 90° angle towards your body? And as I said, relaxed, don't force anything, let your arms just hang and extend your thumbs.

Interesting question on the thumbs... curious where this is going! I would say closest to a 45° towards my body, but it is between straight forward and 45.

The table saw/chop saw work station worked out pretty good, thanks! The N7 is by hand, smeared a little when I poly'd it but it is still a decent image I think. Then I had fun with PTouch software -

I have to agree, that is one nice workshop - I wish had that much space and equipment! Talking to me? I once had some shoulder issues, but there was no surgery involved, I did lots of my own recovery work with weights and proper mobility training to get all my functions back. Took a while though. When you stand straight with arms relaxed at your sides, and then you extend your thumbs, where do your thumbs point? Straight forward, or at a 45° or 90° angle towards your body? And as I said, relaxed, don't force anything, let your arms just hang and extend your thumbs. Interesting question on the thumbs... curious where this is going! I would say closest to a 45° towards my body, but it is between straight forward and 45. I'm no doctor but as a professional lifter who specializes at pressing bench and overhead I have to know a lot about shoulders - when you extend your thumbs on relaxed arms at your sides and they are pointing at you in a 30° degree angle or worse (worst possible being 90°) this means your chest muscles outperform the antagonistic muscles in your upper back, your chest pulls your shoulders forward and rotate them in the process, hence thumbs pointing at you. You basically curl inwards like a dried leaf. Now having constantly pulled your arms forward like that causes stress in the shoulder joint (and multitudes of upper back issues), its one of the most common causes of shoulder problems, and its pretty much THE most common muscular dysbalance. I had the same issue, and made it even worse by excessive bench pressing and not working on my upper back enough. Its easily fixed though, by doing bent forward barbell rows. (In the weight lifting circle its common knowledge, if you have shoulder issues do rows, rows and even more rows in all variations.) That exercise is basically doing the exact opposite of bench pressing. Do 3-4 sets of 8 repetitions with as much weight as you can handle two times a week. And don't forget to warm up 15-20 mins, never lift on cold muscles.

Brilliant bit of advice there, Beetle!
A very mechanical explanation that totally makes sense and matches what I know about my body and how I trained it. Thank you, I will do more of this exercise.

Another Beerfish hike story, yeah yeah, wordy and boring as shi* but keeps the thread going... River now ice free and looking good just a few little patches of ice right near the shore here and there. Male Mallard Duck (Yeah the males of almost all Duck species look cool, females all bland.) A couple of American Widgeons, common name is 'Baldpate' as the white spot on the males head makes him look bald. Lots of duck and goose battles this time of year, the males fighting over females (are ducks so different than humans?), some of these conflicts get pretty violent. On my hike I finally spotted a rabbit which I was happy about as the trail goes through some very nice rabbit habitat but had not seen any before. If I was a predator such as a coyote the rabbit would have been lunch as he stopped and froze too close to me. (Rabbits defence mechanism is to use camouflage and not moving at all to avoid predators). On one part of the trail was a large broken egg, later research of my field guide indicated it was a Canada Goose egg. Really big for an egg, lots of different things will try and steal and eat eggs. (Some large birds, weasels, possibly even squirrels, etc) A Beaver slapped his tale at me at one point when I was close to the river. Startled me as I did not see him as I watched some ducks, which is the entire point of Beavers doing that. Another defense mechanism, alarm warning for Beavers. They have large flat tails and can whack it on the water as they dive, makes a hell of a sound. Saw some interesting birds such as a red breasted nut hatch and some nesting junckos. Junkos were collecting nesting material. Nuthatches are cool, small birds but they are like honey badger and don't give a shit, I've seen them chase away much larger birds. As I got back to my truck I saw my reflection in the side mirror and realized since I was wearing shades and a ball cap and had my hoodie up I looked just the Unibomber.

I am not sure but I think the one in pink blossom is an ornamental cherry tree the one on the right I think is a 'Linden' tree.
(This is a park that I pass through on some of my hikes/walks.)

While hiking in the woods I came across some pretty smooth stones, could not resist. Approx. 90kg+ /200lbs+ stone, press with no leg drive. Getting it up to the chest was harder than pressing it.

My workplace has adequate scenery Do you have lots of mosquitoes in summer? Its next to Baltic Sea so there are heavy winds, not so much in open areas. If you go to tighter forest area then yes. Now on our cottage in north, near Kuusamo... one midsummer eve we took a picture there, where everyone had triple hoodies on and almost no face seen because the mosquitoes were like black swarm around us. Sun was shining.

What Unicephalon 40-D said. Mosquitoes are important food for birds though, that's one of the reasons why we have so many migratory bird species here.

Typical looking hiking/biking trail in the park, looks so much different in the summer with full foliage. Wild roses are in bloom, tons of them all over the place. One location on my hiking route that reminds you, you are still in the middle of a city. Lots of hill/bank erosion, some old pipes and stuff exposed. This area has a a bit of an eerie post apocalyptic feel, somethi9ng out of a Fallout game. There are TONS of Canada Geese at this park, as in an over population and it is getting worse. Nesting is in full swing and most of the chicks have hatched. The image below is a small party of chicks, many of these Geese pairs have many chicks. Worse, because this is the city a total lack of natural predators exist. I can see the city having to do some Goose population control in the near future. (They are messy bastards as well, goose shit all over the place.)
