Spring hike:

We have a bizarre rule here in Edmonton that whenever a big infrastructure project is started a % of the budget has to be for art work to 'support' the art community.

Here is one of them at the start of my hike. The metal balls sculpture. The reason there is currently a fence around it is that a few weeks back some brainiac actually got inside the sculpture.....but then he couldn't get out and had to be rescued by the fire department who had to cut into some balls to get the guy out.

You could probably talk to anyone From Edmonton in any part of the world and just say 'metal balls' and they would instantly know what and where you are talking about.



Trails are finally greening up a bit and leaves starting to form, trails less muddy and wet.



This trail is pretty easy walking very few hills, the river is just to the right of the trail.



Looking across the river to the bank on the opposite side, pretty steep there and the different colours of the clay/soil are more or less different eras where you will find different types of fossils.



A pedestrian/bicycle bridge, joining the two sides of the river, a good place to stop for lunch or brunch.

Whitemud Ravine Natural Area Hiking Trails:

Nice forest trail:



Lots of rain lately so the creek is high and flowing fast.



One of the many bridges along the trail that criss-cross the creek as you hike along.



A view from a higher view point along the trail. Forest area ravine is just full of all sorts of wildlife, right in the middle of the city.



Some higher creek banks, continuous erosion for trees and plants near the edge eventually topple down to the creek edge. The creek banks also yield fossils from long ago.
