I don't really see why moderation is in jeopardy because of "lax rules".
This forum is free from the tethers of corporate overlords. There is no mandate here to protect Bioware or EA, and as such there will very rarely be a need for any sort of bullshit moderation that was common on BSN prime because OMG paychex.
Of course there will eventually be some loud hate talker, and that person will be dealt with, as they always are.
Most of the "moderation" that was done on the BSN prime forums was either pro-company garbage, "thread derailment" (something I will never understand, steer it back or enjoy the ride), or the serious serious SJW work that all the moderators seemed to relish.
Pish posh, your concerns are unwarranted and frankly silly.

This won't be a popular opinion, but that was a scenario in which everyone looked bad. Amelia said some dumb things, and did so undiplomatically, but in that regard, she has a long way to go to catch up to a lot of the posters we all seem to manage to live with. While the consequences of mis-steps were certainly going to be more severe for a BioWare employee, hers were heavily exaggerated. And a lot of the abuse hurled her way is glossed over. Having witnessed it, I was not proud of the community. There was a lot of bad behaviour to go around. In some ways, it's a bit of a miracle that cooler heads managed to prevail and create a pretty solid subsection of the BioWare forums, which the DAMP section ended up being, when all of it was said and done. I was not not planning to comment but I think it would be helpful to support Jeremiah12LGeek points as the events they relate to are already in the public domain. Amelia did what many fans had asked for which was to interact with them and was always very positive about BioWare. When the "key drop" bug happened, Amelia was unfortunately standing in the road when many angry fans wanted an answer, at a time over the holidays when most of the Community Team were absent. After some appalling abuse, including fans wishing BioWare developers to be taken by fundamentalist terrorists and beheaded, I recall Amelia made one mild annoyed reply, which itself resulted in a further flood of abuse. It was only @allan's intervention and some sane fans that calmed the situation down. Two moderators left as a result. Personally, I view that incident as an important factor in the "difficult decision" to close the forum because it proved that on their own Corporate forum, no BioWare employee would be allowed to put a foot wrong by some elements of the fan base. Thank you Jeremiah12LGeek for explaining it so well, I do hope this forum will be better. I shall go back to lurking. This stuff is awesome! One could make an award winning turkish soap opera based on this. |
