Dont.
Yeah sorry to say that but Tech Combos are worthless so you may as well skip on that kit. That and how useless the overload is. I burned maybe 3 respect cards in an effort to make it work. And it just didnt. Dont get me wrong Incinerate works well on armor and the turret can be fun. But the character lacks any real punch.
If you however insists you can test cryo turret, incinerate whit evolution for detonator and maxed chain for the overload ( + the tech mastery ) and maybe you can be sort of support character - but a really bad one.

From what i seen the human engineer can be a nice debuffer with a setup that takes an advantage of that ( at least on paper - didnt really try that ). But the krogan one has a pretty lame Rage tree instead ( for an engineer ) Maybe it is indeed best to just skip that kit for now.

I was utterly disappointed by the vanilla engineer. Who knows - it might work once they are levelled but the long CDs aren't really helping. The shity turret is immobile, so you can just forget about it with its crap 24 sec base CD and campy playstyle.

Human Engineer was the first I leveled and at level 14 I soon didn't care for it.

Yeah, I leveled the Krogan Engineer to 15 and it felt underwhelming even with a sniper rifle. I would like to try a 6/1/6/6/6 build with it since the melee and shield trees are actually useful atm.

human engineer is ok as a sniper build with the turret as a distractor and chain overload as something to make everything stop moving at 10x speed across the map so you can pot shot them otherwise its totally junk, and easily the most annoying class to play, especially since none of the expolosions he can create actually do any real damage.... otoh the sentinel can at least blow mooks off the map with his tech explosions, especially useful on the desert map with the tall buildings against kett or raiders, against remenants half the time it doesn't do anything, hell it doesn't even kill the stupid breachers/

I play the Krogineer as a tanky version of the combo god human engie from ME3. I take the passive evolution for elemental debuff and alternate incinerate and overload. I built rage for durability and health regen then set it to trigger at low health. Passive rage, if you will. I rarely melee with her.

Dunno, im pretty often got top score as kroengi on gold vs outlaw and remnants. The trick is to prime with ammo then detonate with charged overload then detonate (because overload prime for 2-3 secs) with incinerate (6a evo). So 2 tech combos in short amount of time and target is still primed because of incinerate dot. Ofc u need a decent weapon too - i'm using raptor X and hurricane I.

I agree, it ends up making the game feel too homogenous... Everything works with good weapons, nothing works without good weapons, this is an exaggeration ofcourse, but what kept ME3 going for me for so long, was its sheer variety of playstyles that were viable (to varying levels ofcourse).
In this? Do you have one of 3-4 weapons? Cool, play whatever kit you want, they all equally suck, the weapon is really all that matters. Do you not have one of 3-4 weapons? Play a meleer

I have been wondering how to build my Krogineer as well. I am in doubt between 16666 (minimal investment in Overload) or 61666 (minimal in Assault Turret).

I really was looking forward to Andromeda and experimenting with all these powers, combos and debuffers. none of these 3 things are worth it atm.

Don't bother with Krogineer. Her skills clash terribly with Rage, combo detonations are also awful, in addition to Assault Turrets laughable contribution. I've attempted to go with to make her work, acting as a mass primer and detonator. But the journey is just so excruciatingly bad I ragequit a number of times because of how little I was contributing and if I wanted to use a Vanquisher, I'd play something else. She has no defensive options, has about the same amount of shields/health as the other engineers, and overall just a waste of time.

The Angaran insurgent is a great tech class but I wouldn't really consider him an engineer and you shouldn't spec turret with him. The 2 actual engineers are not good in my opnion. Cryo beam is allright but other than that both classes dissapoint.'
I wish there was a class with cryo beam and flamethrower togeher. That would have been fun. Or arc grenades and flamethrowwer.

Angaran Insurgent is the best Engineer we got. (Don't spec Assault Turret though.)
Bio-Electric Defense is fantastic.

The salarian operator is the best engineer we have
As for our lady of explosions, that's what you have; she gold viable but you need a decent weapon and ammo to proc triple explosions, and that's what she can do; no more, no less.

I've also struggled to not feel like I'm being carried as a tech based class... I've tried several different builds as well, in my case, with the human engineer.(which was my go to starter character in ME3, wasn't optimal but was atleast playable on gold). So far in MEA I've tried a build focused on tech explosions...not enough damage, then I tried one based on going full crowd control/debuff...just wasn't effective enough, as this game seems more based on killing enemies asap, not CCing them... I love the core game here, but unless something is done about the balance issues in this game, its gonna get stale very quick (already has) I tried the engineer and cryo beam with the trap upgrade is cool. However tech explosions are underwhelming, the turret is definately not very good, and even when I specced for 100% armor debuff on cryo beam I couldn't actually tell if it made a difference. Seriously, I'd debuff a berserker and unload a whole mag of equalizer into his head and it would barely do more damage than normal. You'd think that a 100% armor debuff would be super effective on a low damage gun like an smg and make a big difference in terms of the damage you do but I really felt like it didn't. As for the krogan he just looks quite bad. Incinerate doesn't do nearly enough damage for it's cooldown. Flamethrower does way more and cools down faster. How does that make sense? Overload is pretty meh, it doesn't strip shields that effectively even at max power and again the cooldown is really long. If you want to play a flame using krogan use the merc, seriously. Angaran Insurgent is the best Engineer we got. (Don't spec Assault Turret though.) Bio-Electric Defense is fantastic. This, he is one of the few classes in the game that actually has powers that are good enough to make a significant difference in your gameplay and playstyle. Mostly because he doesn't rely on combos(they do no damage so not relying on them is a good thing) and his powers are on a short cooldown unlike the other engineers(shield boost has a fast cd and tripmine is a consumable). Meanwhile many other classes just feel super gimped and that definately goes for most of the engineers.

What am I missing, how does a chained Overload prime targets? You can spec Incinerate to detonate combos. What I normally do is chain overload 2-3 targets then immediately pop the furthest target away with Incin which causes the tech explosion. The closer two targets are then getting peppered with my Hurricane IV/Equalizer X while I'm waiting for the long ass cooldown of either power which strangely seems to be Incin refreshing quicker; although It was the most recent power used.

The engineer was the second class I picked up and it was underwhelming but that was compared to an infiltrator, so I just shrugged the feeling aside and chalked it up to everything is underpowered compared to an infiltrator. Once I hit level 6 and two respecs just trying to make it work out, I saw I was not wrong on my first impression. I switched into the human adept and it is a complete difference, far and beyond my favorite class, if you want explosions human adept is where you go. Any unit effected by singularity is primed for explosions and most times you can trap 2-3 enemies in it easily each one blowing up into its own explosion because of shockwave's wide hit box. It still takes some work to kill off enemies but hands down on of the most interesting classes to play.
