Interesting....am I the only one who likes "Masked Empire"? Just as "The Calling" fills in all the details about Grey Wardens, the Masked Empire fills in the details about Bards and Chevaliers. It also does for Orlais what "Stolen Throne" did for Ferelden -- filling in details about "the Game" etc.

Well sure, but Ferelden is all about dogs and rebels, while Orlais is all about....Orlais? Yawn. Clearly there weren't enough frilly cakes in TME. That would've have made it better.

That and the slow burn of the story, and elaborating of 'the game'. ugh, give me a strait forward people over folks who are playing with peoples lives like a game of chess any day.

Just finished Masked Empire and thought it was pretty good overall. Paul Weeks, who wrote ME, is now lead writer for DA, so perhaps that bodes well for the future.

My thoughts exactly! Warning, Dragon Age Inquisition spoilers ahead! One war table mission for Rhys and Evangeline? At least they brought in Cole as a companion. And what of the Mage-Templar war? Basically, they resolved it with a training tutorial in "The Hinterlands" with a bunch of faceless enemies. And "Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts" was a lame way to resolve the Celine-Gaspard conflict. I can't believe they made Celine a wimpy old woman. In the book, she's about as old as Briala. How's does bringing both of them back together make sense given the way the book ended. Briala is supposed to be leading an insurgency, but you really don't see that. (I wish they had made her a companion.) Michel makes it his mission to kill Imshael at the end of the book, but doesn't join you when you storm the castle to get to him. And what of the strange world of the eluvians? Worth at least a DLC! So many missed opportunities! Inquisition is a bit of a disappointment compared with Origins and DA2!

On a side note: I wish some of the characters I loved in the books had more of a part in DAI. Evangeline, Rhys, Michael, Fellasin, Briala. Thought Gaspard was way different in DAI then in the books and wished I could side with him instead of Celine. Rhys and Evangeline are definitely characters I wish got bigger role in the game. Especially Evangeline with her spirit situation. On the other hand... I see them playing part in mage-Templar war part of DAI... And it was half-assed, imo. Maybe it's better they didn't squeeze them in as well. It could do more harm than good.

Zev and Allistair appear in DA2? I haven't seen either of them yet! Though I've only just started the 2nd act in that game.

*sigh* another small part spoiled. No worries, though I would have preferred that remained a surprise too. Ah well, damage done. No use in getting more bent out of shape over it. I'm almost done with book 5! they are going up against the arch demon right now. Not sure why they didn't do that earlier, tbh. Unless the flight from the battle lines was so long as to make it impossible to get there, and still fight (which is what I'm guessing is the case, but it could be explained better).
I can also see a twist coming in too, for some surviving griffon eggs, in the red brides grave. On the one hand, the author is kinda telegraphing that twist. On the other, I would be nice for the wardens to get some griffons back in their ranks. So long as they don't try to join them again that is. Good book overall though. And one I would say is definitely worth the read.

Leliana make cameo appearances in DA2, though they look a bit different from their Origins appearance thanks to the differing game engines. (Although Anders actually came out okay.) If you're interested, the following wikia page mentions others: dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:DA2_cameosIt wasn't as good as Origins, but I still liked DA2.

I have all the books! Stolen Throne and Asunder are my favorites, Last Flight was my least favorite (mostly due to the writing style, it felt too choppy for my taste compared to all the others). I really liked seeing Maric and Loghain's relationship develop in Stolen Throne; the book really humanized Loghain in a way the games never could have. Asunder made me fall in love with Cole, and I was super excited that ( DAI spoiler) he became a companion in Inquisition! He is my precious cinnamon roll spirit boy.

Last Flight takes place after the mage rebellion but before DAI. Part of it takes place during the 4th Blight - a character in the present is reading a journal from that time.

Yep, it kind of goes back and forth between the present and the past. The plot is pretty interesting, I just didn't care for the writing style. I think I've just been spoiled by Gaider and Weekes.

But of course the best part about Last Flight is
it has griffons.

But of course the best part about Last Flight is it has griffons. YaaaaaaasI thought finding the griffon eggs at the end was a little hokey at first tbh, but reading through the whole book again I now love the idea! I can't wait to see if/how it impacts the games going forward. Also, I seriously love Garahel, he was my favorite character. [EDIT: added clarification RE the spoiler]
