Meme/Gif Thread

First of all - very, very, very left wing in terms of the politics of its denizens.



There are fairly equal helpings of shitposting (as evidenced by the image) and political content.



It confuses a lot of people with its structure. You choose a server (known as an Instance) and that becomes your 'neighbourhood'. That has it's own feed. You can view the posts and boosts (retweets/shares) of everyone in your server. Then there is the global feed, which is massive, but isn't actually everything. It is everything that your Instance 'Federates' with. So if I was on an Instance blocked by yours, you would never see me, you couldn't even follow me.  If you do follow me, I appear in your Home Feed.  That works - more or less - like Xitter and others, except there is no curated content.  No "you might like", or "DragonKingReborn Follows"...  As a result, you aren't spoon fed rage.  Or puppies.  So I guess the Force balances out there.

That last part can make it seem very quiet when compared with other social media platforms, but there is a running gag around the Fediverse, (the common tongue name for the collection of servers) that when a news outlet periodically has an article "No, Mastodon isn't a Twitter replacement", there will be a deluge of memes dedicated to the message "Mastodon continues to fail to be the Thing it was never trying to be".  In short, it didn't want to replace Twitter.  People fleeing from the manchild wanted it to be.  Some of them found what it actually was to their taste.  Others didn't.

In conclusion - I like it.  The quieter nature suits me.  But it isn't for everybody.  And it definitely isn't for people looking for political debate, as there is really only one side represented.

Also - boobs and dick.  A lot.  Of both.
