This will be a fun post to write...don't know how you guys put up with me. NHL 22Finished up my season which means I am done with the franchise. Sure I have said this before but actually may be done with a few things coming up, we will see the exact specifics though later on. And for the third season in a row the Bruins won the Stanley Cup. Lets see, 5-3, and like 5-1. Neat sequences of these games up first though Pastrnak had just an amazing first shift in the game as he got the puck three times on the back hand just got it back and scored. But despite taking the 2-0 lead they just wouldn't go away and Ulmark had another annoying game. Though he did get it up on his last chance. But we held on. Second game Marchand was on the early scoring only his third of the playoffs then Hall I believe, Zacha, then I think Pasta and Bergeron. Only game of the series where I knocked their goalie out before the end of the game and put their backup in, Dan Vldarr, former Bruin. And well circling the sharks because backup goalie and their goalie rating isn't that high so you'd think the game would get of hand. It didn't. He actually got first star of the game because of how many shots I got but only gave up one goal against him. Still. Other notes for the off season no one retired again...wow. I mean wow two more seasons in the game of Bergeron and Krecji...and then tried to resign Forbort, he didn't go for it 'oh your roster is too full' then the computer was like 'oh you have too few players so lets auto sign somebody for you. Also still haven't figured out on how to name draft picks. Annoying. But with much chagrin I present to you... Horizon Forbidden West. And yes because of stuff I will be doing my best to spoil spoilery content using the usual system I have done for such things. But yeah here we are. So fun story I was kind of expecting this since the wife, might've even mentioned it, was all like 'what game did you want again that wasn't BG 3.' And I did mention HFW to her so that was a big hint but of course I wasn't trying to get my hopes up too much for reasons and well I thought I had already picked out a birthday gift for myself with something I needed but something that was pricey. But wasn't trying to get the hopes up for those reasons and I was pretty content but the allure of 'hey maybe I'll get a new game, will it be BG, will it be Horizon, time will tell.' And then as I was trying to go to bed I heard the frickin PS turn on. I asked her what it was and she was like 'no I didn't turn on the PS' but she said it so earnestly I did believe her...but now also knew I couldn't get up for jack or shit in case it would spoil the surprise. But alas got up in the AM and read the notification on my phone "Horizon Forbidden West now ready to play." So some chagrin with this because I have had the conversation and debates before there is, in my mind, some controversy in these games. They are, as I probably have mentioned, the perfect tier 3 games of a type because on one level they have some things that are really amazing about them, but then some things that really suck. So namely the big three for me, I guess, no manual saves, Aloy kind've was bland for most of the first game, and this game is an ARPG...but it sucks as the RPG part. Watching a Lets Play of this game I was fairly certain that two of those things have not been fixed, but then I too have kind of moderated my views on the whole campfire thing a little. But the one area where it might've improved...Aloy and her voice acting. Now its one of the weirder elements of these games to because I have heard Aloy's voice actress in other things. I've loved her characters she has played. She did good work as Kate Bishop and Qwydion in Absolution was friggin amazing so what was the deal? Was her line delivery intentional? Was it the fact that she was still going through a character arc? Was the actress just less experienced? Either way Alloy, so far, is a bit of an improvement. Of course I got these vibes in the scenes and the Lets Plays I have watched as well but there is a difference in playing something...but she is now delightfully sarcastic and just feels like a fully actualized person, which does lend credence to the whole idea of it being intentional to show character growth. From here some base level stuff that tends to come with new games but color blind mode, not sure what I am, may have to see if I can't get that tested again but I always hesitate to turn it on because in the examples it used yeah some things were a bit easier to see but it also looked weird. Like not what the game devs originally intended so it just looks off. But then this also might explain some of my other issues especially since Horizon is just so damn colorful so far. Second thing though I did really appreciate the way they did the settings for the HDR and messing with it and given my experience with past games always worry I frick this up but its terminology it used, instead of mentioning 'paperwhite' it talked about Brightness, Shadows, and Highlights, OK very easy to understand. From my experiences and how much I sucked in game 1 decided to set it for easy and either the game is a lot easier or I am a lot better at it. Still early tutorial levels but I just have to wonder if, given the timeline, if my experiences with Ghost Recon and AC have helped me get a little bit more patient because I have been succussfully stalking and eliminating machines pretty easily so far and the times I do get into it machines hit hard...but so do I. Of course this system is so complicated it might be hard to remember everything and I am trying to get back into the flow by remembering what the weakness symbols stand for, etc. The one area I still stink butt on is the environmental puzzles. ANd not nothinc thing. Then usually Aloy says something and its like 'thank you...uh...' 'its over here dumbass!' 'right sorry!' *blush*. And I don't think this is always the case because some of this crap was just so obvious that I didn't notice buuuutt then some of it I have to wonder, do I have trouble seeing because of my color issues? Like I think I know what I am but still feel its just...off somehow. Other big thing from there is trying to remember the characters. Obviously the big ones I know and remember, Sylens, Varl, Errend, the Sun King Avad, even Itamen. But then other characters it was like...who were you again? Its been a long time since I played this game and its been a long time since I have seen the lets play so I am a bit rusty. Almost made me want to start a new PT of HZD in hindsight to refamiliriaze myself...almost. Speaking of though for my birthday also decided to put on a random movie. WE started off for the first time randomly on John Wick. Which I forgot my boy Sylens's voice actor is in it to, RIP. Reach for the StarsIn context this quest is very on the nose in its title and tells you pretty much what is going on. Though I do notice they didn't actually talk about what happened to the Odyssey really yet in hindsight hmm.
ANd Aloy has the whole Harry Potter 'you can't help me!' thing going on, of course she has a point though.
And just the pain Tate's message caused. Ghost Recon Breakpoint.Closing in on Walker essentially. Went looking for Flycatcher, found him, got lost around Arrow. That pointed us in the direction, well eventually, of Shark Base. Got a little lost in there too but found our way and now we are on the last mission. Must say Wolf compoundss are easy to get lost in. Also did the misision where Fox got killed and tracking Hill down to Egg Island. Kind of interesting though given some other things going on, Sympathy for the Devil. Like its all in the execution so I never felt too much sympathy for Walker and his cronies and he does take it in a really weird direction, but he did go insane from the corruption of society essentially. It is something that is often quite the moral quandry and makes for great fictional plots. But it was hillarious when Hill was just monologuing at us and retreated into the darkenss me and my wife were just cracking up at it making all sorts of jokes.

SWTORI started Shadow of Revan with my Consular and I did the Galactic Season quest chain which was ultra boring as well. One of the GS quest had a step to do on Rishi so I started Shadow of Revan to get there. I also had to go on Makeb, which started the Makeb storyline and I can't abandon it in my mission log (at least I can hide it). Booo! And this morning I finished Nar Shaddaa on my Bounty Hunter. One dead super assassin. Dude most have made lots of money considering his security details. They are all dead too, the poor red shirts helpers never get the binary live/die options like their bosses.

Managed to find copies of Forza Horizon's 1 and 2 on Amazon so got those to add to 3,4 and 5 now. So may play those at some point on my Xbox. Bit busy with my othe sports games atm though but when I turn to my racers I could see myself giving them a go.

GW2Yes, not just SWTOR today. I finished the last episode before the Path of Fire expansion. Didn't even take that much time, my Ninja-Necro kills thing fast. Like boss was a joke, I think it's the first time I kill him with him doing his fan spread murder-balls only once.
SWTORPlayed the BH a bit more today, just dealing with some leak of the Great Hunt as an extra activity for the Huntmaster (+ some heroics on the planet where they sent me). Now back hunting down a mark on Tatooine. ---
And I'm still waiting for my new SSD. I suspect its going to be here Monday instead of Sunday as Amazon "said" (nothing do delivery on Sunday where I live). Which probably mean I won't install Linux on it until next weekend (nah, I'll probably do it one day after work once I get the SSD). I've been checking my game library vs protondb and pretty much everything is Gold+, mostly "out of the box" unless the Windows version needs tweaks/mods/patch itself to work (like KoTOR1). Some of the games I didn't even know had native Linux version too (some run better emulated still thought).
The only hurdle seems to be EA Play (it's just a piece of crap software regardless of the OS), but it's not that it doesn't work. It just that sometimes it stop working.

Horizon Forbidden WestKind of carrying on from the last playthrough I was liking how this game was doing its tutorializations at first. Using Varl and having Aloy explain what was going on to Varl seemed a bit of a inspired choice as we were exploring Far Zenith. Of course part of the problem is that the tutorilization in these games don't just tend to be confined to one section. So we had a popup explaining about merchants...just for Aloy to start talking about how she needs to go to a merchant. So that is a point off for that. Second thing that carried on the campfires and fast travel. Fast travel is supposed to be gamey and esoteric. It is supposed to be something that you can just do because a logical mind knows you are usually traveling over time, just off screen, why time usually passes in these things so its not really fast travel just skippable travel. So this game does the whole 'limited fast travel' thing. I got all excited for a second when I thought/ saw the game say 'you can now fast travel for free'. Instead of using the packs, but as I quickly discovered, it wasn't the case...just before camp fires. I can't say I am too enthused but I also know why they do it, to encourage you to explore the world, and its kind of neat using like road maps and stuff and figuring 'well if I go to this campfire over here I can then fast travel over here.' Exploration. On the haptic front to sometimes it seems like the whole 'feel' part of it sometimes is weak. I don't know if its my controller, that is fear, but sometimes it does seem to work out quite well. The other element of this to is that the sound is actually a lot more immersive. They do a great job of making it work as I can hear the sounds of the bow pulling back does make it feel. It was also appreciable there was a slight difference between the two types of bows which brings me to... Levelling. Several different trees and styles of play to get to. Bow combat seems to work a little like AC, long, medium, short. Shame is the descriptions of each one of the trees dissapear when you start investing points. Like I do get it and know but it would be nice to be able to double check. Kind of trying to get the groove going as I am really enjoying the stealth mechanics and the stealth tree I think can help me be really survivable, but it only improves the Sharpshot bow and the Hunter tree improves the Hunter bow and also has some pretty nice valor skills. Combat starting to have a few more rough encounters though, haven't died yet though. To the BrinkSo continuing on with the main quest and the main objective for me was to get the shops open before anything else without hopefully loosing access to the other quests I need to do in the area. And I think its possible.
Ran into Errend and gave him the whole speech on 'I must do this alone'. Without any real RP options, only two dialogue options the entire game so far.
Ulvend is quite a piece of work though. Honestly quite surprised that such a character like him exists though on the flip side he does it so well. Just the guy who is acting like he is out for the little guy but really isn't.
Main objective long term is to host a Peace summit/ embassy with a warring tribe so Aloy can get permission to move on. Gotta escort the ambassador there next. Also must say that the side quests are off to a surprising start. SOmetimes its a thin line to travel trying to make sure you don't make side quests too big where they should've been main quests yet still keep them side quests. ANd it seems, like with the above, that the side quests have two things going for them. They flow from the main quest, a lot like the Witcher, with Ulvend you discover side quests relating to him and the region as you go. And two they seem part of long term arcs like Origins, the Witcher, or Andromeda. Whether this is all going to be one quest or multiple quests I'll need to double check but I do think for the most part if this continues it'll be another improvement over the first one. From here gotta see how the food mechanics work.

True and it is something to consider to and I guess if I have specific thoughts or specific comments I'll go in there. Same thing with the whole Inquisition thread as well since I will most likely be playing Inquisition again, maybe , that there is the thread there but people barely post there anymore so I'll be talking to myself...which is one of the reasons I tend to do a lot of this here unless something is active.

GoT Well. I had an inkling when the NPC started asking Jin to go with her to this place and that place and talked a lot of her memories. I was going; oh no. Oh no. Jin will be broken hearted. And I turned out to be right. I like that his horse sensed his grief and tried to comfort him. A nice touch. I can't remember whether there's a difference if the player chose not to go Shinobi because I have been choosing to go right out as a samurai. There are instances where assassinations are scripted or a quest objective specified silent killing etc and I can't do a thing about it. The most annoying instance is when a chase started willy nilly. Jin was talking to a NPC and all of sudden, after spotting the quarry, Jin was on the horse starting to gallop after. There were archers shooting. What's maddening is that I could not go off the road to evade the archers. I was taken out several times because the archers were shooting fire arrows and thus set Jin on fire that he fell off the horse. The horse flatly couldn't gallop through the fields for this chase. It must be on the road and it must stay on the road. Of course it led to a scripted face off but I don't see the reason behind the restriction because even if I go through the fields, Jin and the quarry will still end up at the same spot. It's impossible to catch up. The only thing needed is to maintain the required distance.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Well finished up the main campaign tonight with the wife. And that was pretty much it.
The last mission of the game tends to be quite well known for being quite a brat. And well it was. Tried to ambush the Behmouth and it didn't really work. My EMP grenades missed the target so it was able to be in the fight. Got in quite the death loop for a bit there with the wifey having to get me and it still lobbed it and just was getting injured very easily, may even think about that for the settings later or something, and then we started putting rounds into it just for it to do the same and defend our position from badies. It was just an idea of slowly working out way down the building we were in for more cover from the mortars and then trying to get close. The plan didn't have perfect execution but eventually she got outside and I was still inside so the plan I was thinking if it started firing on me she'd peg it and when I was being targeted she would. Didn't quite work out that way but we just continued closing the noose without infantry support and we got it.
Only died twice to Walker. I think I do remember that they added the additional Wolves to it to make it more difficulty to do what we ended up doing, but got up to one corner of the room, put down mines. The Wolves blew it up. But fortunatley for us we were able to pick off Walkers drones from a bit of a distance as he came in and then we got him.
And that was that though back to my solo campaign for a bit. Which got HFW right now so don't know, we'll see how this all goes from here with both games and everything else.
But for now did decide to play one more round of it. Still want to do a few things with her before moving on or at least trying to. But the Faction Missions took me up to Sinking Country. One of the weird situations where one of these missions actually took me to a Wolf base. Not even for the main objective but the intel gathering. And wasn't a great position and for intel wanted to rush through it, but don't underestimate Wolves as they were able to gun me down because the flight drone in the area saw me kill its guys and then helped alert the whole base. Just lost control of the gunfight as my team went down before I could even notice it. Second time I had the base scouted and then sniped the snipers, the drone, and the com guy. This gave me a bit of an advantage as also stuck mostly to the ridgeline and were able to hold them off.
The base itself was also fun, elite missions can be. Tried the trick where I shoot through the wall with my technique...and didn't work. Missed. This eventually alerted the base and got ground reinforcements sent after me. I was able to hold though as the reinforcements were ground. One of my squad came in clutch with a grenade that helped deal with them. Eventually with a couple of tense moments though were able to whittle down enemy forces my technique guage refilled so took the shot and this time I hit him for the mission complete.
From there last two missions were just assassinating an enemy squad...and blowing up a truck. Was thinking of taking it from the air but was cogniscant that their might be civvies on target. And sure enough. So eleminated their guards first, then drove the truck which I used to run over an enemy patrol, then blew it up with C-4.

Phew, when we started to move things back into the old Biosyn Sanctuary in my PS4 save we got a funny moment as the Microceratus observed just how big the Dreadnaughtus is compared to irself:

SENUA'S SAGA - HELLBLADE 2... DONE!The final leg is actually quite short. It feels like you barely get to know the main antagonist before the game's over. This game definitely had quite a bit going for it in the plus column. - Top-tier photogrammatic graphics & binaural audio effects. - Decent combat with cinematic beats throughout. - A decent story, even if the ending leaves bit to be desired. - Performance capture is top-notch throughout. A lot of emotion on display here. - Solid Photo Mode. (It's probably why my hours in the game are longer than most. ) It may not be on the level of AC, but it has a few cool features like being able to add your own light sources to the scene. I used them in quite a number of my shots to illuminate some dark areas of interest. And a few areas where it was lacking. - The puzzles were okay, but there were times they wore out their welcome. One stretch in particular when you first go looking for the Hidden Folk. - If you were to just power through it, it would probably feel like a pretty short game. - The ending is both a bit confusing and a bit lackluster. Doesn't have the impact of HB1. - It feels like it needs... something more. More enemy/puzzle variety, etc. Overall, it'd give it a 7.5/10. A good game that at times treads into greatness, then walks back from it at others. Final shots below (spoilers).

Trails of Cold Steel 3 Crossbell is looking lovely. Can't visit the slums and the spooky alley yet, but maybe later. Got the motorcycle back. Haven't really been using it since I like the advantage of attacking from behind on foot. So was very amused when the game had a cutscene telling me I couldn't use them for the next session, which ended with the party on the cycle and as soon as I dismounted the riding dialog kicked in. Bunch of "Wooo, we're going so fast, it's so fun stuff" and it's like guys, what? Ended the session by tangling with Campanella. And like sure, Musse was in the same room, but the man is magic and a mirror all wrapped in one so, still suspicious. Also why you let me unlock slots but not equip orbments? >:C Could have used the sepith for something else if I'd known... Anyways. Much drama, much fun.

I got my SSD and I installed my Linux distro on it! And a bunch of others things....starting with SWTOR (via Steam so now taking screenshots is easy). Got a screenshot as proof (sorta, lol, you can't tell it's Linux). My BH is wearing some nice big shades because it's Tatooine: edit-update: installed GW2, EA APP, UbiConnect and GoG and logged in. But like I said, first KoTOR 1...well beside SWTOR/GW2. SWTOR runs super well and I feel like the shadows looks better too.
edit-update2: I have ~15 more FPS in Lion's Arc in GW2 under Linux. Exact same settings (like SWTOR), I copied the settings from the Windows install. This is Awesome!

Checked on some game vids. I was anticipating this. Somewhat. The vid is a showcase of boss fights. Seems endless. I hope they show other things like interactions with NPCs, dialogues, game world, etc instead of showing boss fights all the time which is deadly boring and also gives the impression that boss fights is all what this game is about. If it's that, heh, I don't have to bother with this title. What I remembered from the movie was the call from the alien. This title seems to be a survival game. I think it's more of a moving from point to point, ducking the aliens, battling other humans for stuff and try to stay alive until the time is up for the aliens. Player controlling the alien is MP mode.

Making my way through Mexico in RDR1. It's impressive how disarming Rockstar makes Reyes and Luisa without mincing words about how far revolution usually gets you in these sorts of situations. A great showcase of the difference personal charm and charisma can make. And John coolly watching Reyes' speeches without giving in to the vibe hits you a lot differently after seeing how Dutch used to string him and everyone he loved along with his rhetoric, until he got most of them killed.

Horizon Forbidden West. So continuing on with the side quests and establishing a pattern with it...the side quests also do a good job of continuing on non critical plot lines from the first game. Very much appreciated. All looping it in with more comments...what is not appreciated and quickly coming to realize...the side quests and indeed the main quests all seem to give you skill points to spend to level up Aloy. Now so far they have been pretty descent but I do make it a habit of these games to not do everything on every playthrough. But this is a hell of a dangling carrot in front of my face encouraging me to do everything I can to continue to level my character. Now I do wonder if its not a case like in GR Breakpoint where you will have A. more skill points then are really in the game and/or B. more skill points then you will want to spend on your skills. But then that leaves me with combat stuff. Specifically did my first melee pit in Chainscrape. Similar to the trials from the first one they encourage you how to do and 'teach' you how to do stuff, but this time in a more melee focussed way. Nice little loop. Trouble is I haven't figured out how to do it in the wilf yet...and the fun bit is that apparently each skill is tied to the melee skills, at least at yet, so if I want to complete that side quest branch will have to invest in the melee skill branch. Think warrior is what its called? Also in combat I ran out of arrows and craftables for the first time so that is something to keep in mind. One of my skills also requires like three arrows to shoot now so that is something. The Twilight Path (side quest)SO here is an interesting case study in player biases and protagonist biases maybe clashing.
The situation was this random Oseram dude shot down a storm bird, Carja characters who used to be Shadow Carja but didn't get repatriated and didn't think very highly of Avad...but yet also extremly peaceful...are sort of in the way of the Oseram who wants to salvage it. The catch? The Oseram is also a flaming racist against them.
So my first thought here though is that Aloy sometimes is a bit too perfect here...like these Carja are the same group, even in an anciliary way, that she had to fight in the first game. She'd have every reason to be suspicious, and indeed that could have even made an interesting angle if the quest got a bit more fleshing out. But she does decide to stick up to them and really lays into the Oseram dude. But then the Carja do proove to be peaceful.
But then she quickly reminds me that she is not too fond of religion or any of its practicitioners 'why do all priests rely on blind faith'. Now I'm not religious but I tend to over sympathize with religious types and usually prefer a more deft hand. But then she also has a point in this case because extremism is never a good thing and their priest was up there for three days, they couldn't move, and he also was stubbournly waiting for the sun to show him the way.
In the end it was a fine quest. Aloy salvages the kill, talks Oseram law at the Oseram, and the guy also backs down. I do appreciate that this entire quest also didn't have virtually any combat, just optional machine fights, even if the guy should have been a bit more 'grrr Carja evil Aloy bad'. But could have used a little bit more nuance and RP opprotunities. Like I vaguely remember this quest from the LP I watched and I could've sworn Aloy had the choice on how to handle this with the Priest's death...but no. Which again would've been fascinating. And to her credit she did genuinly seem to regret his passing. The EmbassyI must say they are laying on the theme of this game of Aloy wanting to be a loner and how she shouldn't be alone realllly thick. I mean given how much this game/games are critically acclaimed and highly regarded it makes me feel slightly better about how I did that in one of my writing projects. *cough*. But its virtually come up in every conversation since I left Meridian. This time with Errend again, with Varl again, and then with the Tenakth Marshal who was also a Carja captive who went native and hoped to get peace going. "leave it to someone who aspires to be a diplomat."
All jokes aside, well trying to wrap my head around just how I feel about it because on the one hand its a bit annoying hearing this theme expressed over and over again and Aloy should be smart enough to figure it out...but on the flip side each new person she runs into is going to express their own opinions on it and probably try and talk her into being escorted.
Speaking of vague uncomfortableness when Tenakth guy...well said that their leader might find her 'interesting'. May've just been my imagination given I know other things. *cough*.
All of this did rather forcibly come to a head when a group of Rebels attacked the summit and killed virtually all the characters that have been established to this point. Yuadis sorry to see him go, that cool Carja guy who reminds me of someone, and the cool Tenakth Marshal.
What followed was a really long and drawn out fight because I don't think I noticed the right guy to kill, then a pretty simple boss fight. Combat is picking up though.
All of this is a fairly basic start to a video game. Hell this plot structure with what promises to be at least descent side quests really reminds me of Origins in a way. Just you get turtle necked through multiple little tutorial phases, then the game opens up.
On the negative side, again, Aloy assuming that it was just Sylens who gave the rebels their beast riding...sure he is the only one she knows that can do that but that does not presuppose they couldnt't have found their own way. MInd you pretty sure she is right so...

Hello there, today we add the dreaded Segiasaurus into the original JP Isla Nubla 1993 as well some kelp into the Tylosaurus lagoon but, we sadly forgot to add the cute Microceratus into the park (I might do a 3rd rendition of this place with the little buggers):

SWTORDid some questing on Tatooine with my BH to get my daily conquest points requirements then I switched to the next SW game... KoTORMy scout is enjoying some impromptus vacations on beautiful Taris with Carth. Beautiful sunset. Flirting. Killing scumbags. Everything is perfect!!! I totally don't remember how to build a character in this. It will comeback eventually.
Starfield
I installed it on Linux and tried the intro until out of the mine on a new character. I copy-pasted my ini settings from the Windows install and it runs very well (although getting to New Atlantis will be a better way to check the performance). I haven't setup anything for mods thought.
I'm currently mentally debating if I should re-install everything I had installed on my previous Windows install or not.
edit-update: Installing Mod Organizer 2 with the Starfield Steam version was very easy finally. Someone made a linux installer for it that does most of the job. It also work for Skyrim and a few other games. I just had to copy my previous MO2 mods folder for Starfield after that to have everything back.

Chapter 5 of Demonheart: The Cursed Trial dropped today so played that. Couple times through chapter 5, then one whole run just for the heck of it. And now back to waiting. Good thing this year seems to be going by fast.
Also ended up wrapping up two routes in Masquerade Kiss since the acts I had left were short stories instead of the full ones that I was expecting. Got two left and will hopefully pick a better timing to go through them since staying up til 3 am because "Just a few lines more" is not the healthiest thing. But fun.
Being in a novel mood so to speak ended up trying the Bewitching Sinners Demo. And I don't know what the heck was going on tbh. But it was a thing for sure.
Then a bit of Baldurs Gate. For old times sake.

KoTOR
This game is unplayable out of the box on modern hardware. My monitor refresh rate is too fast for it, which leads to the character I'm controlling getting stuck after combat 90% of the time. So random, everything else is fine. Unfortunately, I can't seems to get any of the workaround to work outside save/reload which gets annoying fast. So I decided to mod it more to see if I can get the FPS to fall below 60 fps.
