Right now, BG3 is my frontrunner for GotY. Even despite the fact that I'm waiting for further updates before finishing up Act 3. I found Hogwarts & Starfield were both good, but fell short of great. That said, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what the modders will bring to Starfield in another year or two. I'd been playing CP2077 recently, but somewhere along the way in Act 2... I just lost interest. Ithin kit'' stough t oknow what's goin gt obe GOTY as whilst a lot of the gamin ggroups tend t ofavou rthe PS games so you can' t completely dismiss Spiderman 2 .For me th ebuggy mess it launched in disqualifies it. For me I'd say it's between BG3 Starfield Hogwarts and the Zelda game Tears o fthe Kingdom .I think those are the one's we'll see challenging. My persona lfavourite is Hogwarts. But I think any of them could be worthy winners. TBH in terms of great games I don't think w enecessarily have had anything I would call great. Good games yes as I really enjoyed Hogwarts as I said but nothing that's threatened my favourites in Mass Effec tand Dragon Age. Midnight Suns is probably the only one for me in the last year that's come close. But tha tdoesn' tcoun tas Midnight Suns was a 2022 game.

Got into my first boss fight of Alan Wake II... and what a wakeup call that was. The early game was slow-paced, had no fights at all, then finally a couple of easy ones later in Ch. 2. But then... at the end of Ch. 2... your first boss fight. And it is a brutal difficulty spike that the game does not prepare you for. Fighting a multi-stage battle, in a cramped environment, by flashlight, with a teleporting enemy who can kill you in just a few hits (and with AoE attacks t'boot). Now add to that ammo so limited you have to take care with every single shot. There were a couple of stashes of ammo & batteries, but good luck getting them without getting hit. Eventually, I made it through (with ONE pistol shot remaining), but if you die, you go right back to the beginning of the fight. And that was just Boss #1.

SWTORNew new Consular made it to Coruscant. He looks just like my JK (even the same outfit). Sometimes I'm not original like that. He's a bit darker than my previous one. I really prefer playing the Consular as a pragmatic instead of a lawful good idealist which result into DS points here and there even if you actions are "for the greater good". Still unsure if I'm going to dispatch all those that attack me or help them. I kinda like killing the masters but curing Vivicar as a "screw you".
Killing Vivicar is just weird, since the consequences is an email that the Jedi Order was crippled beyond repair, but it has zero impact to anything that happens later.

I played Eternights, an indie action RPG with dating sim elements. I had some fun with it, but overall its pretty meh. Probably the most memorable thing is, your waifu getting killed off. Probably not permit though. LOL. That scene lacked any emotional impact on me, as I just started laughing. Though I gotta say using a QTE as a means to hang on to the person you hold dear, and then having no choice but let them go, by releasing said QTE was a nice touch. I don't understand what happened with plot in this game, especially the ending, other than the god entity that was helping you is probably evil or something? I did come across a video that mentions that it is considered the bad ending if the player doesn't form bonds or romance anyone, which I'm not exactly sure why that is. Many questions, no answers, really. I suppose if there is a sequel, I might check it out just to see what the hell is going on.

Alan Wake IIAfter scouring what remaining loot I could from Cauldron Lake, the game shifted over to Alan's perspective as he recalls his journey to escape the DP. And even more tie-ins with Control - nice! I went back to the now-repaired Bureau of Control trailer, where it was (loudly) proclaiming the obvious... Alan also meets Ahti "the Janitor" in Dark Place who gives him some advice on how to escape... And another familiar face...

Not a big fan of games that have a difficulty spike like that. Reminds me of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and its boss fights if you have been stealthy until that point. Makes it not fun.

Alan Wake IIAfter scouring what remaining loot I could from Cauldron Lake, the game shifted over to Alan's perspective as he recalls his journey to escape the DP. And even more tie-ins with Control - nice! At what settings are you playing AW2 and how does it perform? I hear it's gorgeous, but can get taxing at higher RT modes. But has Frame Generation, so I expect it's manageable.
I myself have some catching up to do. All I played from Remedy is Quantum Break and one of the Max Payne games. I have the non-remastered Alan Wake and Control in my Steam library for a while now.
So I just began with the first Alan Wake. Horror games are not my cup of tea But it looks really nice for a 10+ years old game. The backgrounds are quite photo realistic. Gameplay is utter crap, got tired of the fighting really fast. Oh, no, Alan lost all his guns and light again... Oh, no, he crashed and lost consciousness again...
I might have loved the game if it was more of a narrative mystery, without so much combat and with minimal horror. The setting and atmosphere are pretty good. The graphics hold up still and were probably mind blowing in 2012. The story seems predictable so far (at Episode 4 I think and maybe close to the end), but there might be last minute twists.

Ahoy me hearty's bring them in for a steely kiss. God I love this game (even if it did take me a while and a bit of a panic to find my old saves and how good does it look with a 2023 PC ten years later. Brain might not remember what to do so quickly but the hands do. AC Black Flag ten years old and more beautiful than ever and I am still a top the Regional leaderboards.

My Time at Sandrock Finished the main story with Kelly. Picked it up a few days ago and just been playing. Admittedly did very little stuff during the last arc outside of story stuff. So lots of wake up, do story stuff and maybe some commissions and then back to bed around 15:00 clock. So it was kinda funny to get the "You've been doing a lot of late nights, please don't, for your health" from Ernest. Like dude. The latest I've gone to bed this week is at 17:00, it should be the other way around. Story stuff was really fun though. I liked it.
Qi never proposed and I kept holding out for a scene that never came so they never ended up getting married, but he got his daily kisses (most of the times) and was dragged out once in a while to get some food/air so their soulmates tag felt fitting. But maybe one day he'll figure out how to upgrade from boyfriend to husbando.
Only cut down one tree this run and that was just to heal the doctor, so got away with it.
And now I wanna play some more but the full release is just around the corner so should probably wait. Probably.

Yeah I've got Quantum Brea kan dControl. Th ecomba t in them is fun bu tthe puzzles and stor ycan be trick yt ounderstand i tcertainly confuses the heck out of m eand I've seen some weird stories. Quantum Brea kI undersdtood as that was abou ttime manipulation and stuff. Control on the other hand confused me no end. Been thinking I should go back an give them another go as I don' tremembe rthe stories much. I think it's becaus eit's been ages sinc eI las tplayed them. Horro rgames aren't erally m ything either. Closest I've com e to playing horror games is dabbling in Resident Evil really. A sfo rthe graphics yeah recently expreienced that again myself wit hDAI as I remember bootin it up again to continue m y active playthrough and I remembe rthinking these graphics ae rreally soli considering th egames 10 years old almost. Pla nt ocontinue playing it and m yothe rRPG's once I'm don ewith Midnight Suns. As I think I' mmaking prett y good progress there considering the fac tI'v ecranked the difficulty up. I' m not quite don ewit hVenom yet but I think Ilasted longe rthis time than I di dlas ttime I tried upping th edifficulty. I think the fact I understand th egame and it's mechanics more now has made it easier. Still don't know if I can beat it but I'll feel moer confident once I beat Venom.

I don' t mind sometimes gettuing into a long drawn out fight where you have to wea ran enem y down befoer you beat them fo rexampl ethe high dragons in DAI. But for me boss fight sshouldn' tbe agasins tanythin ghtat's tougher than wha tyou rcharacte ris at that tim ein the game. I think that's why I like Bioware's games as they never throw anything at you that you shouldn't be able to handle bosses included.

Speaking of Baldur's Gate I do wonder how people designed their...well lets just spoil just in case... their dream visitor guardian thing. Just what design or RP principles influenced their decision. Like male to female, vice versa, or what not. I just hit 'random' until I either get something really good, or something really, really bad.

Ugh, I just called the store. They told me they are still missing the motherboard for them to ship all my PC parts, but stated it should come tomorrow to them. However, because Wednesday is gonna be a state holiday, I won't get my stuff till Thursday or Friday.
I wanted to play Andromeda again, but I'd rather wait til I get to play it on new machine first.

So I created sort of a Morrigan. But then they changed the vibe for full release and said it's more of a protector NPC. So I did a Cassandra.

As far as settings go, I'm running a GTX 4080 | 1440p Monitor at full res with DLSS Frame Generation. No Motion Blur or Film grain, but everything else set to Max, including RT. I haven't experimented with all the settings, but it's running buttery smooth with those. And yeah, the gameplay in the first AW game is... pretty horrid. And it was done intentionally to make it difficult to control. The game Control on the other hand, is a great game narratively (definitely play it before AWII), though the combat can be pretty tough in spots.

AC Black Flag ten years old and more beautiful than ever and I am still a top the Regional leaderboards. Even after all this time! Was surprised myself but back in the day the guys below me in both categories gave me a good run for my money but I wasn't working and was pretty much doing it full-time (7 to 8 hours a day for months ) and made a big enough lead they gave up. We are talking years after release too, still was surprised when I logged in last night.

SWTORI finished Coruscant again. I hope nobody minds all the holes everywhere, because Cascading Debris is basically Force rip 50-100lbs pieces of anything around and throws it at people. It's my "main attack". I'm rolling Shadow Tank just because of that ability. My pet was very into bombing cutscene today too

Alan Wake III didn't have a ton of time to play tonight but was able to explore "New York" a bit. Mostly ran around to find hidden caches and a few collectibles. Only had one combat encounter though, which means it's letting me hoard bullets now only to swarm me later...

At this rate all future Bioware games will be half done and modders need to rescue it for free.

Fallout New Vegas
Long and short of it finished up Old World Blues and...well given a lot of play time, contradictory and half remembered thoughts, lets see what I can relay.
Big thing of it though is I did indeed fight the big scorpion for the essential big boss battle of the DLC...and well also some save scumming later but more on that later because in this case my hand slipped. And well this DLC does get big points here because it was in the back of my head that the Think Tank was acting awfully sus. The pacification field. The scientific experiments that keep on getting mentioned and we find all of which was pointing towards the Think Tank being the antagonistic force...but then you had Mobius running around and obviously the goal of the DLC was to stop him and get out of there...obviously. Well you can get railroaded into killing him rather easily but actually talking to him he quickly confirms my theory and had a lot of 'aha' moments here because well A. Mobius didn't end up being too bad. B. all of his threats were to serve a purpose, be pre recorded in fact. And C. confirms kind of the 'danger of science' theme which is big in Fallout but never gets brought up as thoroughly as this. See Mobius's entire plan was to essentially trap him and the 'Think Tank' there. Because they are all mad scientists, even Mobius has his eyes on unethical experiments, but the difference is that he also recognizes there are limits to science and ethical considerations. So the implication is he stuffed the Think Tank and himself into the suits and then gave them a threat/ repetitive task to keep them in line and focussed on the repeating tasks of dealing with him and then whatever other experiments they could run within Big Mt. He then wiped their memory of the outside world so they wouldn't be curious/ tempted to take their experiments on the road. Experiments which have already been causing issues IN the outside world. But the fun part is that they now know there is an outside world because of us and our brain lobotomy. We were the proof. And on top of it, cherry on top, it was because we survived our gun shot in the head was the whole reason the auto doc tried to fix us and thus we survived the Lobotomite process.
And lo and behold once we get back to the THink Tank to confront them they are all gathered and Doctor Klein promises that he wants to leave Big Mt. to continue their experiments. Kind of annoying here because the game railroads us into either killing them...or lieing to them and convincing them we are actually Mobius's brain running around in our body. This gets even worse because after the conversation they continue to refer to us as 'the Lobotomite'. But at the end of the day I basically am now in charge, sort of, of Big Mt. I get to control their experiments after a fashion and I promise to bring them test samples from the Mojave. I am still kind of tempted to kill them because they are actually kind of evil, but yet on the flip side the post DLC slide show shows that they do essentially go back to their tasks and the repititive nature of it. So they are contained, they are neutralized and while they may know of the Mojave...they also seem to have forgotten about it or moved on from caring. As long as they get their little bit of science to do they seem happy. Worried about long term reprucussions but it also reminds me of FO 4 and the choice regarding the Institute. Just this time the Courier does actually seem to have the power to effect change.
