That explains your disillusion.  Lol.  Comparing yourself to yourself is just as necessary as Sometimes comparing yourself to others.  Comparing yourself to others is call perspective.  Insert accuracy/reliability variables of basic science:  You want to keep hitting the same point (reliability/self examination), but you want to also try to hit the actual target (accuracy/what others are doing).  And reading some of your stuff just made me feel a little better about hitting my own target.

There's actively comparing yourself to others on a day to day basis and then there's passive comparison that happens when you just see others and get an esteem boost.  If no one did that at all I'm pretty sure that's lacking empathy for others' situations - unable to recognize where another person is in comparison to yourself.  You just don't do it the other way around because you'd drag yourself down too often.  I guess that would be the active comparison I was talking about.
