So before the game came out they talked about the huge amount of diolage they recorded for this game. The companion with the least to say still had more recorded lines then Shepard in Mass Effect 3 they said. Then you play the game and talk to your companions like 3 maybe 4 times on your ship. Wow.

yeah... did you somehow miss that the companions talk all the time about what is happening around you? Banter incessantly as you drive around? they react even to minor things, like if you drive too crazily. The only times I saw that much banter saturation was in legacy DLC. They literally react to everything, track minor quests, track the story-line progression, and talk to one another and the Ryder all the time. I've played for 50 hours and can't remember a single time when everyone was silent even for an hour. They even banter across the halls on tempest. In addition to banters they exchange notes. They each have long companion-led quest where they comment throughout. It is a different dialogue delivery, not all channeled through the PC-initiated talks with the NPCs, but the amount of content is absolutely astounding.

Didn't refer to just companions I beleive. It means minor npc characters too.

Guess I must have the dreaded bug then. My crew only talked every once in a while in my game and never about what was going on.

Did you chit chat with companions after every major plot missions, like f.ex. Meridian? Because they all have something to say after each big priority mission.

I finished my play through right before the patch came out. Guess I'll just give it some time and do another run. Hopefully I will be presently surprised by how much I missed.

You can also try mixing and matching the comps on each planet too, because their banter often references the environments they are in as well.

Banter on the surface of planets has always been pretty good, but it is the ship dialogue. I feel like it is lacking especially for people like suvi. She barely has anything new to say about anything. I think THIS is what needed to be improved upon. I wish there was just more moments in general with your companions that wasn't just planet banter.

I don't usually spend much time on the ship, but I heard them chatting, and I always check their message board. :) I hear Suvi and kallo chat a fair bit, as well as Kallo and Gil. But Suvi and lexi are quieter. I know Suvi is an LI, so I won't say "thanks goodness for it".

After the patch, I had tons of banter on the Nomad but yesterday and today, it's back to no banter at all, on the Nomad.

I remain exactly as impressed/unimpressed about the "so much dialogue, more than ME3" statements as I did when Mac first announced it. It's always a bad sign when a developer at BioWare starts bean-counting like that and ME3 is the best example of how more feels like less. Yeah sure, there were 20k more lines of dialogue in ME3 but at the cost that conversations felt completely restricted.
If they can't keep up to the amount of dialogue they have with animation and branching choices scale it down or it'll be spread too thin and only feel worse. BioWare games nowadays feel less expansive than games they made 10 years ago.

Hey, they wouldn't bean-count like that if we didn't do it. Remember all the idiots insisting that ME3 had less dialogue than the previous games? (Fortunately, that engine handled dialogue transparently, so it was easy to do an objective comparison.)

Hey, they wouldn't bean-count like that if we didn't do it. Remember all the idiots insisting that ME3 had less dialogue than the previous games? (Fortunately, that engine handled dialogue transparently, so it was easy to do an objective comparison.) You mean idiots like me? They also bean-counted with ME3. "We has 6 writers in ME2, but in ME3 we have 8 and I think the quality of writing has also gone up another level" is what Mac Walters said during that game's hype-cycle. Look, I get it. Devs want as many people to play their game as possible and they want to generate hype and they're also told to do that by EA marketing. Look at those Voice Actor reveal videos for ME3 and this game. The actors and actresses say some really weird shit in it when you can tell they were asked to sell the game to the audience and that's just how it works. It's transparent as hell and so easy to recognize but some still fall for it. I was just saying, I'M not surprised people start to seem let down now that they thought this game was going to feel much more expansive than previous games in terms of how much dialogue there was. From DA:I I just know we'll never get beyond the usual 4 squadmate dialogues for every game. It's been that way since ME2 and it seems if their budgets increase the extra stuff just goes elsewhere to expand the breadth of the game and amount of time it takes to beat it rather than deepen the companion stories.

Nah, I don't remember you starting one of those silly threads. They were typically drive-bys from noobs.
What do you expect from marketing-speak? If the audience is going to count stuff, you tell them that the game has lots of that stuff.
As for how they're spending the resources, I don't know where I'd cut dialogue from either DAI or ME:A to throw into more squadmate convos, so this just takes us back to reverting to the older structure. I think there's an active poll about that

They can't shut up and keep interrupting each other conversation, especially on the new normandy.

Weird During my playthrough, I had the feeling they never shut up, to the point of being interrupted mid dialogue by another event trigger most of the time. I really felt that MEA had more dialogues than the previous titles, mostly dialogues being unrelated to Ryder and giving them an "independent"life. It was pretty interresting to listen to your companions and see how their relationship evolve during the course of the game (the number of times Ryder in the nomad just say at some point a variation of "please don't involve me" is quite amusing). The problem being as I said that for a good part of those dialogues, there are so many of them that they tend to either overlap each others or interrupt each others.

It was mistakenly said, what they meant was that the squadmate with least of lines in this game has more of them than a squadmate with most of lines in ME3.

My squad never shut up, while we're driving a round. I get banter firing every 60 seconds. And I often hear them discussing things on the Tempest. Compare that to the trilogy, where they never spoke to each other or had banter outside of an elevator ride.
