Who is to say he is actually dead? We never see the body and in gaming worlds no body equals not dead. Could been revived in secret and put back into cryo at own request or to continue his work in secret. Could say the same for Garson. She wasn't truly ID'd as even Sloane doesn't recognize the burned body. That all seems like some odd cover up.

Who is to say he is actually dead? Not everything has to be a cheesy soap opera where characters are resurected by the numbers. An inhabitable planet with him sacrificing his own life to save his child. I'm content with that, and don't speculate on a Truman Show like reappearance.

I always thought that was a weird question. Ryder knew the poisonous atmosphere was deadly and also knew Alec took off his helmet. What did s/he think happened to him? Cora: Before he could die of suffocation/poisoning, flying monkeys tore him limb from limb! Ryder: Wow, I didn't expect that! Good thing I asked! I would say the answer is weird. Why not just say he did of........? Was it that hard to give an honest answer instead of deflecting? Maybe Cora felt uncomfortable blatantly stating "He asphyxiated saving you, duh!" ? But yeah, the whole conversation was weird.

So. arguably. Dad Ryder didn't do... that much? I want to go back. I want to find my dad's body. D< I don't even understand why they would have left it there in the first place since the shuttle was right at that spot for evac. Who knows what vile things the kett probably have done to his body. Makes me think back to when we find Cailan's body and what the darkspawn had done to it. *Gasp* That'd actually be such a cool DLC.

I found it odd that Ryder doesn't ask to see his/her father's body. I know I wanted my Ryder to see his body. When Ryder asks Caryle how dad died, he says "like a hero". Hmm. Death by like a hero. Alec Ryder. Dead. Cause of death, like a hero. How did my father die? Forty nine times... We fought that beast In case you didn't get it

If they didn't have his body, why can you ask Harry "How did my dad die?".

He died because he didn't know about the 'buddy breathing' technique.

He died because he didn't know about the 'buddy breathing' technique. This really irks me. I know that the writing demanded his death, but the whole team trained to be explorers of potentially dangerous planets. Alec is a former elite operative. But in both scenes where junior Ryder's helmet breaks they start gasping for air instead of actually holding their breath for a minute or two. Alec could have given them his helmet, held his goddamn breath for a couple minutes (world record for holding breath is a bit over 24 minutes) and calmly fixed the broken helmet with his omni-tool. Just another example of lazy writing.

During the mission they state that the air isn't breathable. Their scans should have revealed as much as well. I just don't see how that would keep them from holding their breath for a couple minutes. Their training should have covered 'If your helmet shatters on a potentially toxic planet, stop fucking breathing'. If Ryder junior had held their breath, they could have used 'buddy breathing' with Alec's helmet. Even with Alec's kid being a total fuck-up and liberally inhaling toxic atmosphere, he could have given up his helmet and held his breath while fixing the broken helmet. I just don't understand why they would show us that slapping omni-gel on a visor will fix it and then don't use it again. At this point I really hope that Alec made it out alive with Ryder junior's helmet, going dark in order to track down the MB.

I agree it is suspicious that no one will give you details about his death, nor was there any sort of funeral or goodby scene or ANYTHING marking his death. If it was just oversight, it was a damn big one. Well this is Mr Walters and the new Bioware we are talking about. An oversight would be par for the course no matter how large it is.

Was anyone else curious what was behind that door in the Kett lab?
Imagine if we had managed to open it, deactivated the forcefield, only to find that the passageway had collapsed in a cave-in. Could have been fun to see Ryder annoyed that after all their effort (and the Kett's) to breach that door, it ended up being completely pointless and an utter waste of time.
Would have liked to have gone back to Habitat 7 at some point in the game to explore more, now the planet wasn't trying to kill us anymore, as well as having SAM to be able to gain access to some of those Remnant structures.
Thought that would eventually happen in my first playthrough, but alas, it wasn't to be.

Was anyone else curious what was behind that door in the Kett lab? No, since if we can't enter it, there's a sure bet there's nothing behind it.

Activating the Vault wasn't to make Habitat 7 Viable for population. It was just to get the lightning activity to subside so that the shuttle could safely make it off the planet. In future DLC/Entries it could possibly be revisited.
