Blood Mage ahem, "polearm-for-hire". An unusually... uhm... lucky mercenary warrior whose companions mysteriously fight in bursts of incredible power and speed and who wears proper armor and wields a spear in combat, which is totally normal and nothing special and shouldn't raise any brows. Because it's so normal. 

Basically the Dexter Morgan of Blood Mages. In my headcanon, Malcolm Hawke was cut pretty deep by his role in the Corypheus affair, and resolved to raise his son to truly let his magic serve what is best in him, and not what is most base. Hyram was raised to respect the Chantry and the reasons why Mages are rightfully feared and restricted compared to everyone else, and to live every day displaying perfect willpower and sterling conduct in order to justify his own freedom from the Circle of Magi, and likewise try to hold other apostates to the same standard.

Which means assisting the Templars in their hunt for evil blood mages and apostates without the will or training to handle freedom responsibly, and otherwise working hard to protect his family and enact justice, and build a reputation as an honest and courageous servant of the Powers That Be. And by refraining from making stupid jokes, because they tend to suck coming from him.

Appearance-wise, the idea was to make an older, handsomer Carver with prettier hair, a stronger jaw and the capacity for real facial hair. Just to give Little Bro as much reason to be jealous as possible.
