Currently the Fiend grab in multiplayer is flat out insane, not only it can grab anyone standing at a distance WAY longer than its arm, it can also grab people that are hiding behind full cover. Fiend already has an insane amount of hp in gold difficult, plus its basic attack already does a lot of damage, there is really no need to make this enemy more challenging. Not to mention, Kett always show up with an armada, so besides the Fiend that's trying to grab you, there are also a million Kett shooting at your at the same time.
The main reason why the Fiend grab is very annoying it's due to its execution ability, once you are grab by a Fiend it always execute you, so you can't even use the revive pack. For such a powerful ability, the Fiend really shouldn't be able to grab someone that are still a long way from it or someone who is hiding behind cover. There must be a balance.

Can't just hide in a hole anymore. Have to be conscious of your surroundings, use communication and figure out where the ascendants and fiend are. I like it.

I like it. grabbing people behind cover is not my main concern, my main concern is the reach of its grab ability. it's grab ability is way longer than its arm, which makes judging just how far away a player needs to stay very hard.

Working as intended.™ I'm hoping we'll see changes very soon though. ME3 MP had weekly changes, but looks like that's not going to be the case for Andromeda, which means I'll likely not be playing for much longer if the state of the MP stays this way.

I pretty much stay like at least 15-20 metres away from all fiends because of this. And I'm not afraid to make a bolt for it if I sense that it's pursuing me.

My main issue with the fiends are
1. Tele-grab: Oh your way over there? *teleport followed by immediate inescapable grab* teehee, fuck your chances
2. Extendo grab: Lemme just swipe the air in front of me even though your 15 feet from my grab.... Well fuck you anyway *grabs even though your out of range*
3. Suuper extendo/lag grab: Aww he ran away to avoid my grab... HM... He's across the map now... *grab because fuck you, that's why.* (seriously, I was running for a straight 3 seconds for the very particular reason (2.) and got pulled back anyway....)

- Crash to desktop needs fixed asap.
- Sound cutting out every 2nd match forcing you to close and restart the game needs fixed asap.
- Melee stop working when a squadmate goes down needs fixed asap.
- But yeah Fiend warp around the map and Go Go Gadget Grab should be next after those.

No kidding.
It's sync-kill works way too weird. It almost feels like the fiend uses its psychic ability to render us immobile then slowly approach to finish sync-kill.

I think the main problem with fiends has to do with pathing and animation. A fiend is too big and bulky to navigate easily around all the corners, objects and obstacles, but instead of letting it get stuck, the game "cheats" by teleporting it around them when needed. For the same reason the box used for positioning and pathing is much smaller than the actual model, so it clips inside other objects more than any other enemy - and unfortunately this also means that its grab attack can, in some cases, reach through walls and other objects. This, especially when combined with lag, can lead to exactly the kind of BS we've seen countless examples of.
Can it be fixed? Of course - but it might be a quite a lot of work, possibly more than Bioware is willing to put into it. They might choose other means of the alleviate the problem, such as having fiends telegraph their attacks, do their sync kills less often, indicate their presence through audio cues etc.
Will Bioware do something about the problem? I believe they will, but it might take some time, and it's unlikely they'll fix the issue entirely.

I started a thread on this topic about insta-kills in general but I have to say I have played the Kett a few times this weekend and I have not been insta-killed and most of my teammates avoided it as well.
We played them on Derelict twice which seems a good map for the Kett. I cobraed a Fiend and an Ascendant to stop sync-kills on teammates and this worked perfectly.
I also saw that the Fiend was meleeing around the place rather than sync-kills.
Then today's Apex Gold mission is Paradox/Kett and is a lot of fun. I recommend doing it. It's hack/devices. The map is very pretty and the Kett I have to say are fun to play against.
I still keep well away from the Ascendant and the Fiend but either they have adjusted the sync-kill frequency or I'm just getting better at avoiding them but I didn't even come close to insta-death.
I imagine Upload is still a nightmare and I was play the AA against them but it's refreshing to play something that isn't Outlaw.

I fix Fiends by firing a cobra RPG or two at them. Ain't nobody got time for shadow striking, magnet handed, go go gadget armed enemies trolololing about the map. On a serious note, Fiends have a normal attack? I've seen their ranged acid spitball, but do they have a melee type attack that isn't a sync kill? Not ballsy enough to stand within spitting distance of one to find out, I like my characters in one piece. I'm just glad they don't screech like Banshees. Nothing has made me bail to the other side of the map quite like the screech of a nearby Banshee. The day Fiends start screeching is the day I dislike Kett more than I already do. Don't need those nightmares. ಠ_ಠ No kidding. It's sync-kill works way too weird. It almost feels like the fiend uses its psychic ability to render us immobile then slowly approach to finish sync-kill. Back in the day, the Banshees siren song was enough to lure players into the hug of death via moonwalking. It was both infuriating and amusing to see your character do it despite being well out of her sync radius, or so you thought. At least the Fiend uses space magic to grab you from where you stand, and not force you to walk into its mouth.

I think Lemur nailed it up there.
What I find strange in general: I see many players complaining about the same issues SalMasRac and Ryuji are having, but there also seem to be people playing without any of those problems (haven't had any of them myself to date). That bugs me. If it's a netcode issue, wouldn't everyone stumble upon CTDs somewhat regularly? Or is it because I manually opened all necessary ports in my router and only play with friends living in the same country? Or was I just very lucky up to now? 'cause I can't believe myself to ever be THAT lucky...

The behind cover grab thing just happened to me yesterday, and the goddamn thing was pretty far away. Hell yes it's annoying.
It's bad. Something has to be done about the Kett regardless, they're ridiculous.

There are two fiends, one that you see, and one that is the mechanical rig moving around actually doing stuff. On host they are one and the same, off host they usually get separated.
The invisible fiend is the one that moves and decides attacks consistently, but the hitbox for normal attacks is attached to the visible model, meaning the fiend swipes and attacks uselessly, until it's model updates it's position.
Grabs force the position to update, meaning when the rig chooses to grab it always moves the model into the right position to succeed.
Remember that there is a second invisible fiend chasing you who never gets stuck on terrain, and he decides when the attack happens, while the one you see is just what you shoot at to kill both.

Apparently, running away makes you vulnerable.
Play a vanguard and charge the thing! That will keep you safe (for easily a second-ish).
(But, if the bug is that its attacks and its position are in two different locations, then charging that fiend might also be a good evasion technique...)

However I DO get grabbed out of (seemingly) nothing by those Fiends. The annoying thing about them is that they chase you all over the map for whatever reason and it's nearly impossible to drop their aggro without some Stealth mechanics. Just like Bezerkers
