Stop posting photos from your kinky halloween party, this thread is supposed to be about Tomb Raider! I need to stop and actually play the game Now I'm worried this game will infect me with another dose of screenshot-itis. I had it real bad in DAI.

Seeing the Photo Mode support here just pisses me off even more that Monster Hunter: World didn't have one. Or Ansel support. Or even an easy way to toggle off the UI.

Seeing the Photo Mode here just pisses me off even more that Monster Hunter: World didn't have one. Or Ansel support. Or even an easy way to toggle off the UI. These days that's kinda surprising. But it wasn't a blessed relief not to be posing the camera every 10 seconds and replaying cutscenes for that perfect shot? Honestly it becomes a curse for me, I can't stop myself. And omg you got a smilie of DragonKingReborn! That's how he looks almost every day, how did you know?

How is it compared to Rise? I've played the first two in the last 6 months, I'm thinking it'll be similar enough to need a break before buying this one. The gameplay is very familiar, but the setting and story are in a sufficiently different location to shake it up. And there are some nice tweaks I won't spoil. Like the others, it's not a huge game, but this will see me very nicely through to Assassin's Creed...

Not sure when I will get the game. Went on youtube to see a couple gameplay videos. I even spoiled myself by watching a video of the final boss battle and ending.

Yeah - the first one in 2013 was a pleasant surprise (even more pleasant for me since I picked it up on sale for $5 ) and Rise built on virtually every aspect - in my opinion. So am I the only one who liked the first reboot better? Lara looked better, for one. Can't really put my finger on why exactly I stopped playing the second one. Maybe the too cluttered open map design? I was getting lost in looking for stuff and it wasn't that interesting a thing to do. So I think the Assassin's Creed effect kicked in. Maybe it was just an unfortunate time window when another awesome game was released I HAD to play...

No that's a popular opinion, many people prefer the first and I think it depends on what you look for. I found the story and dialogue to be rather obvious and trite, I guessed what would happen 5 minutes in with that crew. Rise got rid of all but the best, Jonah, and then I personally enjoyed the Byzantine structures and Soviet installations. The Japanese stuff in TR got rather samey for me. Rise is however one of those games that I know how to play after I've played it, I wish I'd ignored all the collectables and just got on with the story because it did drag for me. I got bored half way through, so if I play again I'll cut 5 hours off.

I might pick it up again in winter and just steamroll the story. The story of the first one wasn't great but I liked the presentation and I liked that version of Lara. She felt like an actual person. She had a normal body. I could never take old Lara seriously as a teenage girl back in the 90s. Barbie Indiana Jones for boys, you know. So I never played a Tomb Raider game until Underworld and got bored quickly. Wonky controls drove me crazy. Endless silence (no companions). Never finished it. Bought the reboot for 10 bucks because of the rave reviews and was very pleasantly surprised! It was NOTHING like Underworld. Hooray!

Rise has Inquisition-itis I think, first time round you want to catch 'em all but then you slowly lose the will to live. Second time you realise the collectables are meaningless. Another bug bear of mine is seeing an area early on that Lara can't get to because she doesn't have the right equipment. Like a rope. A freaking rope. They're all over the place but oh no she can't have it till half way thru. Still if I leave the faffing about purely for revisiting an earlier map to open up a tomb, then it's alright. Ruins by immersion a little, no way she'd backtrack up the mountain she just parachuted off but okay. Yes she does feel real, especially when she gets grubbier and grubbier as the games goes on. A strange thing to be excited about but there you go.

Shadow so far for me is like Rise but improved in all ways.
This is by far my favourite incarnation of Lara - the originals are viewed far to much through nostalgia glasses and what people thought the games were, rather than what they actually are. For example- all the movement was based on a grid system for example. How people can't see the improvements made here is beyond me.
I've actually taken the day off work to play this, which- apart from skiving off my 6th form chemistry lessons to play resident evil 2 - I've never done before.
Edit: note on collectibles- they have new game + this time, so that should make it more palatable.

I'm enjoying it very much so far. The hubs and Jonah add a new flavor, making everything more alive, crypts are also a bit more interesting. But, I did the first two tombs and the puzzles were still easy. Let's see if the rest are harder.

I liked them for different reasons, I know for me I didn't like the crafting system of Rise because if you want to change up your weapons you were in trouble because finding components to craft with since the boxes never respawned. So I felt stuck with using one type of weapons the entire game unless 100% necessary to move on. Which is what I like about games is changing up how I am playing if I feel like I am getting in a rut.

I see Lara keeps getting uglier with each reboot game... I thought she still looked good in Rise while one of my male friends who's a nude photographer disagreed. So no idea what the (male) general opinion is here. Or if there is a general consenus at all. I just know Lara in Rise got a lot of hate from some male gamers. Here she almost looks Asian in the video...
They VASTLY improved the visuals with the exception of fire and grass. Rise looked quite ugly at times while being an fps hog. Glad to see they made everything look less dead. Actual texture quality I'm not sure about which looks better. Coming off Skyrim modding, most textures in games look rather bad close up...
If I ever finish Rise, I may play this one too a couple of years down the road.

So no idea what the (male) general opinion is here. This is a direct recording from about 10 minutes ago: I'm sorry, but if she is considered ugly then 99% of the female population is ugly. I don't know what standards of beauty people seem to have, but I suspect there are going to be a lot of people disappointed by real life and will die alone. Honestly, I despair with video game culture sometimes. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I think it's cause I prefer the story of Lara not really being a badass yet and as you're playing you get to watch her learn how to survive and become the badass we know. It made me root for her more because she was like an underdog at that point lol The Assassin's Creed effect is a very real thing in a lot of games these days and I think you may be on to something with that in Rise as well.

Also, to contribute to the current topic in here: I don't think anyone is saying that as a representation of a female she's ugly, just that compared to the 2 previous versions in the series (for some of us, not all), she doesn't look as good. For example, the following is a screenshot directly from that video OG posted comparing the 2 games. It's blurry because the guy zooms in on the faces while trying to tell the viewer about the differences. Both are being run on pc and on ultra settings. They did change her face up a bit, and personally, I prefer the previous look. Obviously the lara on the right is affected a bit more by shadows so it's hard to see the real look, but it does look like they changed the overall shape of her face.
