Shes dying right, but shes frozen.
So to cure her you have one choice really, wait for SAM whos relying on all the genetic stuff you've scanned. But atm he has no eta on a cure and you have to find a cure while fighting Archons.
She may never even be cured within your lifetime which means she'd be waking up like Ellen Ripley 57 years later and all her children and her husband are dead. Only its actually 757 years later and the Reapers burnt our homeworld and murdered all your relatives. Oh and we're at war with the Kett. Hi, mom.
(Sad right? I know Zip. Don't tell me she'd want that.)
But....
What if we let the player choose between that and letting the Primus exalt their mother in an exchange for Meridian. Some of us don't like our mothers so its an easy choice. Some of us do like our mothers and that makes it harder.
Either way she can be special or something and like Han Solo (opposed to Ellen Ripley) you can live in hope of getting them back again within your lifetimes.
It makes things interesting, yes?

No, I don't think so. Exaltation makes the person Kett, thoroughly. It seems to rob them of free will. So far as we've seen, once exalted they are "Kett", with no real trace of whoever they were before. Exalting Ellen would be like killing her. I suppose you could live in hope that exaltation could be undone but it's more likely that the Kett would send her against Ryder knowing the pathfinder would refuse to harm her.

Might as well turn Shepard's mum into a husk while we're at it. No, because then BioWare would have to give a canon background to Shepard - or at least remove Colonist as an option. Spacer Shepard is known to have a mother that lived at least throughout most of ME3 (fate unknown, of course) and it's anyone's guess about Earthborn Shepard's mom. But don't break my Shepard's story to husk mom! |

Yeah, if that's a possibility, it might make it more of a possibility. Not sure how much they remember but one of the leaders of a Kett fortress mentions that they were once "unworthy" or whatever they said to describe themselves when they weren't kett. In other words they remember when they weren't kett but not necessarily what they did. |

It would have been more interesting if the game had done a better job of building a sense of the Ryder family dynamic, but hey. Very few people would take it, but then very few people did the shoot Mordin in the back/shoot Wrex in the guts option in ME3 and it was still there. And it's not really any more ridiculous than a lot of the stuff that's actually in the game as it is! |

It plays out so much better if you don't tell your sibling about Alec and then take the 'you were in a coma.' option. I also shot Mordin.
