I'm calling time travel, but will watch the reveal with great interest. I probably should have been clearer - not hoping for time travel, just feeling like based on what little we've been told that it has the highest chance of being what they're going for. What I hope for is a super hero theme, but I can't see it happening yet. They did mention Batman, though.... The added difficulty games face when tackling time travel - that movies, TV, books and comics don't have to worry about - is the future reacting to actions in the past. That would surely be a coding nightmare, unless they imposed massive narrative limitations on your actions... Unless...maybe something like a "Time Detective"? Someone who can observe the past, but not touch it. That way, they would have full control over the past and only need to react to actions in the present. Doesn't necessarily sound like a lot of fun, though... |

I'm kinda wondering if it could just be like a lot of Doctor Who episodes, where the time travel is really just an excuse to have adventures in different eras and messing with causality only occasionally comes into it. |

Superhero is near the top of my list as well. Because of the competition from MCU and DCEU IP, original IP in the (Western) superhero genre is almost unheard of. Which makes it a perfect area to expand into. You know who your competition is and, with very few exceptions, their games mostly suck. But, unless we're sure it's a modern-day setting, I would be even happier with straight-up steampunk, without Cthulhu or time travel or alternate history and any other frills. Like Last Exile (anime). It also fills a competitive gap between Bioware and Bethesda, since the latter has Dishonored in the steampunk-ish category. Tough to play in the Bioshock space, though, which kind of broke the mold for the genre. If it is definitely modern-day, the competitive gap idea kind of argues that it might be cyberpunk instead. Give CDPR and Square Enix a run for the money? |
