I don't actually know anything about those games. Everything you need to know about Destiny. TL;DR (er, DW), "Destiny is a weirdly soulless game ... that's fun to play." I've played it myself and this analysis is right on the money. That review of Destiny hits the quality of a game that the author of the trailer liked, and the one that I want to avoid. The treadmill grind with a long term goal that puts gaming into your daily routine, where you have to do your Dailies/Weeklies to stay relevant in the game. The author says an hour or two, but the games I have seen, it was true that a player that has friends and is a good player can clear out the content in usually two hours, while a casual/nothing special player will need 3 to 4 hours per day with endless wiped runs in GF, or not getting the cut of loot they need because they did not hit the top 15 or whatever DPS on the timed event, etc, etc, etc. Even if the progression woes are somehow softened, the problem is, that the game turns into chores you have to do, & some content you don't mind doing, so you end up fitting in stuff that makes you wanna weep day after day after day. You should really be liking doing the same raids for a few months on end and delighting in progression to buy a title like that. You can't whimsically be re-playing parts of the story you like, on the days that particular game feels appealing. Because the moment you are off the treadmill, you are really done. Well, at last that's how it was in grinders with "leveling" SP story. I did not like the palpable pressure from the other players to stay on the treadmill, the conversations starting to rotate only around gear and farming, and how empty easy and low level zones and raids become within just a few months after the launch of such a game. That what bugs me. SWTOR SP was huge, so it avoided that feel, but in the smaller games, with only one leveling SP story-line (if it is there) the treadmill is very noticeable. And, tbh, I have never seen a small-scale puggable dungeon that is interesting to replay on the daily basis. It's either frustrating because the pug can't pass the mechanics, or a faceroll where you just DPS stuff down. The OW PvP gets really bad if it's gear dependent and Faction-based. ME3MP coop was kindda cool, but it is 'each day, every day' and you hit the gearing ceiling if you are not a great player. In Andromeda grind was way more pronounced, so hitting the ceiling was faster. I honestly have my doubts about novel ways to make it appealing?

It's actually designed to keep you addicted. It's digital crack. The hardcore SWTOR community prefers new raids over story content. People play these games to keep themselves busy, it's escapism in it's dullest form. MMO's are getting less popular because of MOBA's, because those are even more mind numbing.

I know, I have been there. The problem with the drug is that it delivers pleasure to elite, but nothing but nightmares and headaches to the masses - and I belong to the masses. It's not partying and enhancing it with booze & drugs, it's cleaning the dishes & toilets while the rich are partying and having fun, and they rape & abuse you in passing to. If it's a grinder, then there is no real reason to start. I will never be good at it, and i don't have much time on a daily basis, and i don't want to play a game each day every day as a chore.

I doubt it. E3 is probably the only place you'd get that announcement. Good call... I guess you could say I've been in this game a while.

Yeah, saw that. They're quick to change. It was still spring 2018 when I was going to sleep. Well. Yeah, that was quick (but not entirely unexpected). I wonder how this will impact their other franchises, especially given that (last we heard) over 1/2 of DA's team is working on this game.

I'm fairly confident they have most of that stuff figured out already - the whole "Spring 2018" thing appears to have been a relic from before they've made a decision to postpone the release. Someone didn't check dates at advert materials prepared way earlier. Not the first time thing like that has happened.

They are banking a lot on this, aren't they? Curious as it doesn't seem to fit their brand. A Destiny-style game does feel a little out of BW-Edmonton's wheelhouse, but as it is BioWare, I'm assuming they're taking a more narrative-heavy approach with this. But no question they're banking a lot on it. It's been in development since 2012, it's a new IP, and they're trying to bring in a different fanbase than they typically go after... I hope they're successful, just for BioWare's sake, even if it doesn't wind up being for me...

It doesn't fit BW, but (despite EA possible pushing this on them) they all seem excited about this.
Or maybe not. Many left after working on Dylan, no.

EA: 'We need our own WoW.' SWTOR is a way, way, way better version of KOTOR3, if the Knight's storyline indeed all it was to KOTOR3 (the most lackluster entry from all SWTOR stories, imo). So, if Anthem turns out as awesome as SWTOR for an SP gamer, then it is a HUGE WIN.

Just dropping a moderator note in here that a request for an Anthem subforum (really, just a general discussion/speculation place for now) has been made, since a few threads started popping up yesterday in places they don't fit since, well, there's no appropriate forum for it yet. Cyonan is the only one with The Power to make subforums, however, so he's been paged.

EA: 'We need our own WoW.' Bioware Austin was created to make an MMO from first place. From the very start, that Bioware studio was funded to create SWTOR. KOTOR 3 was never on table back then. Plus, Bioware desires to form their own IP's instead of depending on someone else's IP. Remember, Bioware went straight to create Dragon Age and Mass Effect after success of KOTOR 1. They could have made KOTOR 2 instead and get earn more money, but instead went to make their own IP's that nearly bankrupt them until EA bought them out.

It is unfortunate though, as a bunch of news sites already picked up on the "Spring" release and ran articles about it. Now I expect a bunch more articles coming out today saying "It's been delayed again!".

DA has only had a small team in pre-production right up until MEA team got broken up. The DA team is just starting to grow now, and they're hiring (including Lead positions), but it's not a full team yet. We're not even sure when they'll have a full team together. Maybe not before Anthem finishes up... The only way they'd have something out in 2019 is if it's a smaller, scaled back game of some sort.

Remember that today's Xbox presentation starts at 2PM PDT hopefully they wont show the game at the end of it, but who am I kidding... Regardless, let's stay tuned. That's at 6PM for me which means that Bethesda's conference is at 00:00 again... and tomorrow is Monday, and it's cold as Antarctica... bollocks.

Also to remind people, Anthem was delayed by 6 months. It was originally slated for Spring of 2018. So DA4 is either gonna go on normal schedule, like Summer of 2019. Or will also get delayed for either late 2019 or start of 2020.

I feel people underestimate the pressure DA4 will face. A lot of negative reviewed points in ME:A were in DA:I too. They can't just make another DA:I like game, because it will get flamed too. The open world design should be imagined from scratch, side quests will need to be better, etc.
I wouldn't expect DA4 any time soon. They'll need to re-evalute all the lessons from ME:A and come up with something really good.
