Hearing the banter in the nomad, my favorite ones seem to revolve around Peebee and Jaal, and honestly, I think they're perfect for each other. Which is embarrassing because out of all the romantic interests I've encountered, Peebee and Jaal are the most interesting options for me.

I have a little head canon in which sometime after the events of the game (don't the full details yet - still need to finish it) something happens which would cause my Sara Ryder and her love interest (Peebee or Jaal) to break-up. My idea is that during a mission, Sara accidentally ends up breaking the trust with her love interest, causing him or her to leave the Tempest temporarily.

In Jaal's case, it could be an event where the Initative was placed ahead of his people, making him feel betrayed. And for Peebee, it could be a scenario where Sara's concern for her safety made her lose an object she was desperately trying to get.

Eventually, both would come back admitting they overreacted, but they both mutually agree that a romantic entanglement wouldn't work due to their difference in priorities.

This eventually leads to Peebee and Jaal grow closer to each other, due to their equally insatiable curiosity and their joking nature (yes, I think Jaal is a bit of a joker).

Do you guys think Peebee and Jaal would be perfect for each other? How would you see them get together?

They're my favourite pair to stomp around Andromeda with. I romanced Peebee first and haven't finished Jaal's yet, but my impression is that he'd be too overbearing for Peebee. Overbearing in the affectionate sense, I mean.

Yes! I loved these two. They were my favorite companions for my Sara Ryder. I dragged them everywhere, and thought some of their banter together was hilarious. By the end of the game the trio felt like very close friends, who shared the same passion for exploring.

I was also torn over who to romance, so I went for someone else. In my playthrough Sara and PB had the 'no strings' fling, and I head canoned Sara backed off after what happened during the loyalty mission and neither were ready for something serious, but they still turned out close friends in the end. Not sure if that'll end up canon or not, It'll be a while until I do a second play through.

Yes, during the mission where Jaal learns about where his people came from, I thought PB was very caring and sweet, offering to be there to talk if he needed. So although she is a big flirt, I think it's clear she genuinely cares about her friends, and I could see more developing between them if neither are romanced by Ryder.

But I completely understand too why some don't like LIs hooking up, because then those hookups start to feel canon in a way, and it kind of spoils things if you feel like your PC is getting in the way of something.

Lol PB&J, it's a bit too perfect when you put it like that.

For my opinion of it, yes they need to go and make the best sandwich in the galaxy.

In my first playthrough my Sara had enjoyed zero-g fun times with PeeBee but didn't intend for it to go anywhere. I was also a bit of a rampant flirt at times and SAM via the Codex entry for Jaal really seemed to emphasize how much he was into my Sara Ryder which made me feel terrible as I had already gone with Liam by that point. So I felt like I had friend-zoned the poor guy. Then Peebee mentions an interest in Jaal and I'm like, yes! Please go for him! Make me feel less guilty!

Yeah there is nothing between them but a silly and sweet friendship. It starts with PeeBee saying she wants to try mating with him, then laughs at him freaking out and says it was just harmless flirting. Later he says he wants to mate with her, causing her to freak out, then he replies it was just harmless flirting. When they first get to know each other, he is interested in her a little, but after he learns of what the Kett do to other races, he finds the Asari too similar and also doesn't like how all the Asari children look like Asari either. By the end of the game, they have become good friends that care about each other, but it's not like Garrus and Tali. I'd say more like Isabela and Fenris, though they never sleep together. It's also similar to Morrigan and Sten.

I'll be honest, I never understood the "canon" argument against NPC/NPC romances. Just because a plot arc works out that way in one playthrough doesn't make it canon for another, and the whole point of games with choices is that you're not bound to one story :huh:

Corypheus destroying the Conclave is canon for everyone. Iron Bull and Dorian getting together is not.

There are plenty of other reasons for not doing NPC/NPC romances--sloppy implementation being the big one. The bug where Jaal and Peebee continue to flirt even if they're locked into Ryder romances ruffled a lot of feathers, even though it never amounted to anything :rollseyes:

I suppose LIs having preferences outside the PC destroys the illusion of the PC being a super special snowflake? Personally, I would totally ship PB&J if I didn't romance either with Ryder, but maybe not in ME:A. Maybe in a later game, like Garrus and Tali, after they've had a chance to grow up a bit together.

If it were Jaal/Lexi, or Jaal/Vetra or whoever, I would be cool with that, maybe it would even make me want to romance someone else, knowing that Jaal is taken care of. But I really don't see him with Peebee, she's too teenager-y and immature. Good thing nothing actually comes out of it. If they were a thing, it would be unfair to Ryder who has to work to gain his trust and caught Jaal's attention with her courage and strength, when Peebee is just "you're new and shiny, we'll bang ok?" (Though she's not serious about it anyway)

On topic. From their banter, I always got the impression that it was just casual flirting more than anything else. I don't think Jaal would be able to give Peebee the space that she needs. The Angara are SUPER affectionate.

Yeah, there's not really any canon of course. But I guess fandom starts to think of it that way, or they forget to put flags so they end up flirting in front of your characters, even after you start a romance. But then again Jaal's banter was a mess before the patch, he was already telling PB he felt close to her the very first time we went out in the Nomad, and he's apparently so good at poker, he was already playing before he arrived on the ship.

I do believe that after saving the moshae, Jaal takes issue with asari = kett because all asari children are asari. There's a banter for it. Haven't heard it myself, but I've seen it mentioned in the boards.

I had one playthrough in ME2 where I romanced Tali. I saw what the appeal was but it just felt very wrong to me. She was this teenager on my ship in the first game and then she developed over the summer, but still had that little sister feel for me. Team Dextro were my closest allies in ME2 and by the end of the game/going into ME3 they felt like family.

I was thrilled they finally got together at the end of ME3, even if they didn't hint at it being a thing leading up to it. It was nice to see some of these people had a life that wasn't on hold in hopes I would talk to them/flirt with them.

Though I suppose if I consider Tali a little sister and Garrus a brother that means...yikes...forget the family analogy...I'm happy for them :thumbsup:

I romanced Peebee and she was still flirtatious with Jaal, but it struck me more as playful and meant to tease him rather than lusting after him...and her personality is naturally flirty anyway so I felt like I knew what I was signing up for going into that romance.

At least she's not as bad as romanced Isabela wanting to go behind some bushes on a mission with Zeveran.

Totally agree. When I first started playing RPGs, I really didn't like NPC/NPC romance. Now I like it in principle, and especially how it was done in ME3, but in practice the quality and bug-testing often isn't there

Which is a shame, since it helps flesh out the NPCs and makes them feel more like real people.

To be entirely fair, Garrus and Tali had three games, and didn't get together until ME3. Hell, Garrus was kinda racist to her in ME1

I'm hoping the ME:A cast will also develop more if we get more games with them.

It seemed like Bioware wanted us to get the idea PeebeexJaal was not a thing because the Nomad banter tells it as a story, kind of. As you're driving around, Peebee offers to mate with Jaal and he is sort of embarrassed. Sometime later she makes a comment on his large thighs and he gets even more flustered. After that, he pretends to sleep, snoring all the time when she is there until finally Ryder just says he only does it when Peebee is there. He isn't flirting, he's avoiding her.

Later if you take them to Khi tasira and he learns about his people, he basically makes fun of her and laughs at the expression on her face.
So . . .if it's a budding romance, it sure comes across very weird. Maybe they could have a fling for curiosity, but not a lasting romance.

I could see it as a fling and a close friendship, but I don't think Peebee could go for Mr. My Heart, My Everything, My Moon, My Stars in the long run, lol. The angara seem to be all about settling and building lasting connections with as many people as possible, taking even people who are not related by blood into their families. Peebee would probably get cabin fever after a week.

I didn't mind it here, though, it helps to make the characters feel a bit more real. In DA:I, it sometimes felt like Iron Bull/Dorian was supposed to be the canon romance and I was interrupting it if my Inquisitor romanced one of them. Iron Bull, at least, seems more openly into Dorian if you let that romance play out than he does into the Inquisitor in theirs. That, I think, can be a bit unfortunate, but they avoided that feeling with PB&J.

Now if Jaal could stop flirting with Vetra while I'm romancing her, please. I swear I will hide your toy mice and catnip if you don't stop hitting on my spiky girlfriend. :yas:

I wanted to see Lexi and Drack hook up. I actually thought that was going to happen in the game, but it never did. Lexi is so serious for an asari of her age (ie, non-Matriarch), and she clearly cares for Drack. It would have been sweet!

I love NPC/NPC romances, and wish there were more in the game(s). I always thought Cullen and Josephine in DAI should of hooked up. :wub:
