I mainly use a Hornet SMG for my "general purpose" needs, and it's a great Assault Rifle substitute, but it's quite lacking versus big armored targets. After hearing so many good things about this shotgun on these forums and elsewhere, I decided to give it a shot. I used a stock Pirahna IV bought from a merchant, with no shotgun mods, and no points in the Shotgun passive. I wanted a pure baseline test on the thing. Even without a build designed to put out as much weapon damage as possible, this thing is a BEAST. I can't wait to get enough research points to craft an even better version, and respec into a slightly more damaging build.
I still use the Hornet as my "go-to" weapon, but this thing has now found a permanent slot in my weapon loadout.
I didn't want to try it on Insanity with it being just a baseline test, so I recorded a short Hardcore gameplay vid. I was rather surprised at how well it did.

My playstyle is power reliant so its virtually useless to me and how i like to have fun.
Slow firing weapons give me a better edge.
Shotguns are great in ME though always have been.

That's the weapon I use. Add the bio converter and seeker plasma system augmentation. When combined with turbocharge, it will take down any foe very quickly even on insanity mode.

I'm mostly a power user, as well, but I like mixing in a fair bit of gunplay. I've never had an issue whooping these beasties, but sometimes it'd take longer than I'd like with the various weapons I've used. The Pirahna fits the bill very nicely, with a Hornet with VHS as a "primary" weapon.

I personally won't use the bio converter, because I think it's brokenly OP. Just a personal preference thing, since I tend to run a tech heavy build, the downsides to bio converter are basically non-existent. I'm certainly not bothered if anyone else uses it though!

This is one of the very best weapons in the game. It's so powerful, and so damn loud, that I can't use it as my primary weapon. I do like using it as an armor-breaker, though. Destroyers and crazy wildlife always get the Piranha treatment. themikefest, does the seeking plasma augmentation change the sound the gun makes?

It's a good weapon; I prefer using the N7 Crusader even though it's not the best on my infiltrator. I prefer marksmen shotguns that use slugs.

I also carry a sniper rifle, but that varies by what's on-hand. It will eventually be a Black Widow, once I start finalizing my high-level equipment. I'm hoping that an effective AAX5 Ghost will be added, pushing the Hornet out of the "Top AR" spot. (I know it's an SMG. That makes it more sad.)

The Pathfinder AR is a pretty darned good AR, but it's deluxe version only, only craftable to level 5, and you can't get any augmentations back from it. Plus it's got a ROUND buttstock. I mean, really, ROUND?!? Hornet is basically an SMG version of the Pathfinder, and it looks like a small carbine/PDW, so it's kinda got that AR feel to it.

Ian said that they're "looking into" making the Deluxe weapons scale to Tier X. That rifle is good. I use it until I find something that clearly outclasses it. That's usually not until Tier 2 Hornet, or even Tier 3, due to "random drops". I may have even eventually bought my Hornet, this last time. I can't recall. I've heard the SMG praised, also, but haven't used it myself.

It SCREAMS to have a VHS added to it when crafting, but without getting any augments back from destroying the thing, it's a tough sell to craft one. I used the tier I version from the pack on the Tempest for a bit on Eos, and I ran outta ammo after every single fight. I switched it out and ain't looked back. Let me get augs back from deconstructing it, and I'd probably give it a good solid shot.

It's just a "prop" Bioware made for the game, but doesn't have a functioning version for the player to use. Devs have said that they may consider adding it to the game in future patches/DLC, since a lot of fan feeback has asked for it.

The thing is even the weapon used by the Scott and Sara collectible figurines/action figures. Wut?

It's even got the distinction of being one of the few AR's in the game that actually look like proper assault rifles! I mean, the Avenger and Revenant look great, but do piss for damage, the Valkyrie looks right and does more damage but I don't like the muzzle climb on the second shot, and the Heleus/Remenant AR's are fugly as all hell. The Sandstorm is a great DMR, but it's got this tiny buttstock that looks all kinda wrong... I mean, from a pure looks perspective, all of the models are very well done and look great, but I'm a military veteran. Weapons that don't look "right" bug the living hell outta me.
