On the one hand the Jets are fading down the stretch and playoffs are very unlikely now. On the other hand, the ending of the Pats vs Raiders game.

Beerfish, the end to the Patriots game was nuts. It was too stupid to believe. I'll need to watch it at least 10 more times. Jalen Hurts finally had his first "bad game" of the season. I didn't get to watch it because I'm in the Bengals' viewing area, and that translates to the Cowboys being on 90% of the time. 🙄🤬 Hurst threw two picks, after having only three all season. Still, he cleaned it up in the second half. He finished with 315 yards passing, 61 rushing, and 3 rushing TDs. (Those rushing TDs came on sneaks after receivers stopped just short of the goalline. He might've had 3 passing TDs instead, which amateur analysts across the internet seem to believe are worth more points.) I'm glad they picked this week to play poorly, because they'd have lost to a good team after committing 3 turnovers. Even with two weeks to prepare for Philly, the Bears' defense isn't good enough to justify 3 turnovers. I hope they got that out of their system. I wish I could've seen the game to see whether the Bears or Eagles were responsible. I'd prefer Eagles' sloppiness to Bears' scheme. Philly at Dallas this Saturday, finally. I've been hearing Dallas fans talk about how Dak is going to kill the Eagles since the first game. (Strangely, I can never find those Cowboys fans after poor outings.) It's a great matchup, and it's the third game of a three-game road trip for the Eagles. Still, I feel good about their chances and expect them to win. If they do, it will be curious to see whether the Cowboys fade or refocus for the playoffs.

I watched some of Jalen Hurts' press conference. He said that he had never played in cold like that in his life, and that he couldn't feel his hands in the first half. He also noted that he was going to prepare himself for more of it in the playoffs.
That explains the early sloppiness, I guess. There was a lot of the usual pinpoint ball placement and big plays, so there doesn't seem to be much more to it.
I'm feeling good about Saturday. Go Birds. 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
I think I'm getting Vikings fans angry on YouTube. (Getting anyone angry on YouTube is easy, of course.) I'm not rude to anyone. I politely speak the truth as I see it.
ESPN posted one of their typically sensational headliner videos, this one asking if Minnesota is now a scary Super Bowl contender? 🙄 I pointed out that falling too far behind the Eagles or 49ers will end in a blow out loss.
The Eagles are built to score (#1 in NFL), and regularly deploy 9-minute TD drives in the second half of games. They are the #1 defense against the pass, (#2 overall, #6 scoring def). They are #1 in Opponent QBR, Interceptions (and TO diff), and Sacks. If you let them get up by more than 14 points, let alone 33, it's a wrap.
This seemed to be an unpopular take. I would be so pleased to see the Vikings in Philly for the NFCC Game. It's hard to overstate how much I'd rather play them than the 49ers.

Tough loss tonight for the Eagles, but not one that is terribly meaningful.
Minshew made way too many mistakes, throwing 2 INTs and botching a handoff. Sanders fumbled late, instead of just taking a run for no-gain. The secondary, particularly Slay, played poorly. I expected Lamb to get us in the slot, particularly after Maddox left injured. I did not expect Slay to commit a big penalty, botch a coverage, and get smoked on 3rd and 30. That was terrible, contributing to 21 points for Dallas.
I'm concerned about Lane Johnson leaving injured. I hope he's okay. He's the most dominant tackle in football. He hasn't given up a sack in over two seasons. Historically, when he's out Philly tanks.
That nasty turf caused several injures tonight. I really hate turf. I hope AJ's ankle and Maddox's toe are okay. Turf-toe often lingers for a long time.
Those things said, I'm pretty optimistic. The Cowboys needed an all-world performance from Dak; an epic breakdown by the Eagles secondary; a sloppy, backup QB; and a red zone stand to win by 6. Philly twice led by 10. If Jalen weren't sidelined, I think the Eagles would've delivered an ass-whooping.
I'm eager for round 3, assuming Dallas advances to meet Philly in the playoffs. I expect they will.
No real surprises so far this week. I'm happy for Jacksonville and Doug Pederson. It's a shame to see the Titans totally collapse. There's a chance they might end their season on a 7-game skid. That might get Vrabel fired, regardless of past successes. I guess it will depend on whether they play hard enough to convince the owner that it's not the coaching.
EDIT: I got a chance to watch some film of the Eagles game, and had to make some corrections.
Slay did make 2 bad plays, but a third wasn't on him. On the 3rd and 30 conversion, the Eagles were in a disguised Cover 2 that did not fool Dak, but confused my eyes. Slay ran back to tackle TY Hilton after he smoked Josiah Scott. Scott is terrible. He plays the slot with slot-corner Avante Maddox and safety CJ Gardner-Johnson out.
Maddox injured his toe on Dallas' turf, so we might not see him again. It's a shame, becayse he's a great player. He was a force on the handful of plays he got in tge Dallas game. ☹️
I'm hoping CJ is back, soon. He's a great player. He covers like a corner; stops deep plays, often getting interceptions; and hits hard. He hits so hard that he lacerated his kidney in the GN game. That injury usually requires 4 to 6 weeks, so he should be back no later than the playoffs. They'll need him to deny Brock Purdy the deep ball.

RIP, Immaculate One.
I never liked the Steelers, they abused my Broncos back in the day too often (later during the Cowher era, lol got'em.)
Despite this, always admired Franco and the way he played. Tough dude, and seemed to be one of the good ones.
...
Still haven't watched a game this year. Was pretty confident that streak would be broken by the excellence of the Broncos under the outstanding leadership of Russell Wilson.
Whoops! Serves the Wal-Mart Donkeys right!

I'm not nearly as confident with the Eagles as I was before today. The injury bug has taken hold at the worst possible time. Not only has Hurts sat out the last two weeks, both losses, but many key players were out. Josh Sweat, the guy who has led the NFL all season in pass rush win-rate and has 11.5 sacks, left on a stretcher today. I read that he was released from the hospital.
Most importantly right now, Lane Johnson was out today and the Saints dominated the right side where he should be. He's the most dominant Offensive Tackle in the NFL. Year after year, he's incredible. He hasn't surrendered a sack since 2020. Historically, the Eagles tank when he's out, and history held true today.
Now, Jalen has to plan to play a full game next week, rather than 2 or 3 series. Lane Johnson said he will play with his abdominal tear in the playoffs. Well, the playoffs start next week because Minshew couldn't bring home a single W. He threw a TD to the wrong team tody. Sigh.
The NYG have a good pash rush. If they couldn't block Cam Jordan and crew today, will they block Kayvon Thibodeaux? It's crazy that I have to worry about a team the Eagles destroyed so easily 3 weeks ago that the starters sat for the Q4.
Hopefully, Jalen's return restores order and the Eagles convincingly beat the NYG. While they certainly have shown that they can beat anyone, anywhere, they are too injured and out of sync to go win three road games to get to the Super Bowl. Winning three on road, or two at home? Easy math. They gotta lock down the #1 next week.
Injuries suck, and they've hit at the worst possible time, but they're just part of the game. They aren't the only contenders who have lost key players this year. If Lane can go, if Hurts looks himself, if CJGJ returns... they'll still be a SB favorite.
At least no one else looked good, either. Dallas beat a crappy team who were sitting starters precisely for that reason. Bad Dak was back. SF squeaked out an OT win over the Raiders, surrendering 34 points to Stidham. The Vikings proved again that they're only masquerading as a good team.
Lots of good games next week. My heart will be 100% in Philly, but there are a lot of important games next week.
TEN @ JAX for the AFC South DET @ GB for the NFC Wild Card BAL @ CIN for the AFC North (both already clinched) NE @ BUF for playoffs and seeding
SEA and WAS are still trying to get in, as are MIA and PIT (for now).
The final week is always exciting.

Wow. I just got to see the Eagles' lowlights, and it really had little to do with Lane Johnson's absence. They actually blocked well, which you wouldn't guess from the Box Score. They were a bit sloppy, with three false starts on a single drive, but they still didn't play that poorly.
Gardner Minshew was horrible. He wasn't good against Dallas, but he wasn't irredeemable. Against the Saints, he played like garbage. Minshew teamed up with the pass-happy OC (as if Philly isn't a dominant running team) and a passive DC to lose a game that should've been an easy win.
I was optimistic that Minshew would play well while Hurts was out. He would have his chance to audition for Free Agency. Not only has he not looked like a viable starter, he didn't even look like a viable backup yesterday. The man sucked, missing open receivers, dancing into sacks, and throwing a TD to the wrong team.
I wonder if ignorant fools still think Hurts isn't a real MVP candidate? "They'd be just as good with Minshew." Right. 🙄 With Hurts, Philly would be 15-1 and still rolling teams.
The coaching has been sketchy, of late. Philly seems reluctant to run the ball, despite having a dominant O-Line, and a lead back in Miles Sanders who has 1200+ rushing yards, 11 rushing TDs, and a career 5 yards-per-carry average. They aren't, however, hesitant to run Hurts all game, every game, despite knowing that guys who run like that don't last long.
The defense is stacked at every position, despite missing their great slot CB and FS. Still, they constantly end up in soft zones that allow QBs to pile up completions. They have a premier coverage-duo at CB this season, a pass rush that might, next week, set the all-time record for most sacks in a season. The soft zones are allowing mistake-prone QBs like Prescott and Dalton to finish with ungodly completion percentages and, most importantly, with Wins.
We'll see what happens. I hope injuries and bad coaching don't squander one of the most talented teams we've seen in years.
EDIT: I feel the need to complain about a bad call in the Eagles game. They should've easily won, regardless, but it was an incomprehensibly bad call. I'm not at all blaming one call for the loss. It's just such a bad call that it deserves a dishonorable mention.
Our great LG Landon Dickerson pancaked his guy on a long TD run. Our great Center Jason Kelce put his dude into the seats, and RG Isaac Seumalo had his guy yards out of position. So, the back ran through a hole through which you could probably drive a Honda Civic. It was a much needed TD that would've changed the game.
They called Dickerson for holding, but I just can't see it. No one has been able to see it. I can't find a hold anywhere by any other teammate, either. I'm puzzled as to what these guys saw. Officiating has seemed pretty bad, to me, this year. In some games they're invisible, as they ideally should be, but others... yikes.
I hope this crew isn't set to work the playoffs. We've seen enough blown calls in tye playoffs in recent years.

I have almost quit football several times because of its brutality. Each time, the Eagles have gotten on a really good run and I fell back into it. I always feel guilty, though, watching it. These guys regularly get concussions and other bad injuries, and risk far worse. It's just not justifiable for entertainment. I think this might be my last season.
I hope Damar Hamlin survives this.

May he make a full recovery.
This is the best chance some of these kids have, to make a life for themselves. Bread and Circuses, until we are horrified by the reality of what is always there lurking seeing the light of day. I desperately wanted to be one of them once, I understand the allure. I've said my piece on the rest of it here before, won't bore you. Glad he is aware and communicating, that is a big step.
