What a heartbreaker. 😭 The Eagles dominated the first half, but only led by 10 points. The Hurts fumble was bizarre and devastating. It was potentially a 14 point swing, and a free 7 at the least. The Eagles could've potentially been up 31-7 at the half, but instead had 24-14 to show for total domination. I was anxious about that. Then, the Chiefs easily scored to open the second half and things got tight. The penalty at the end was total trash, but one bad call doesn't make a game. The Eagles defense got whooped in the second half. Their historic pass rush was a complete no-show. I knew KC had the top pass-blocking win-rate, but I really thought Philly would keep Mahomes running all night. I wish I could wave my hand and wipe away the Hurts fumble. It was the difference in Jalen being world champion and Super Bowl MVP and having to watch Mahomes win it instead. I really wanted this one for Kelce, BG, and Fletch. Kelce and BG will likely retire, and Cox will probably go get paid one final time by another team. Philly will have a ton of free agents. Miles Sanders, our Pro Bowl lead back will leave. Fletcher Cox we mentioned. Javon Hargrave is going to get rich somewhere. James Bradberry will likely get paid big money somewhere. CJ Gardner-Johnson is a must-keep, and I expect the Eagles will do so. They have the roster to still be a contender next year, but it might not be quite this special a roster. This team was stacked at every position group. It's a shame they came up just short.
Hurts was the best player on the field, don't care who they gave the MVP.

With all those phenomenal plays? Yes, just watch over the next few days on the sports shows and commentators, the first thing mentioned will be the penalty Well, I can't honestly say I'm not unhappy about the penalty. It could have made a difference. But the level of play was so high on both sides, I don't feel the Chiefs got anything thing they didn't deserve. With Jalen Hurts as QB and all their other stellar team members, I think the Eagles have the potential for a bright future. Hurts had 3 rushing TDs in this game! This game was really one for the ages.

He was phenomenal. I know that fumble will eat at him for the rest of his life. I hope he will get to assuage that disappointment, in time, with Super Bowl wins. In laying out all the potential roster changes, I failed to mention some big changes among the coaches. Shane Steichen, our OC who's been so great, is seemingly going to be the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. He will be greatly missed. Philly's turn around last year, from scrubs to playoff team, came when Shane took over playcalling duties. Our QB coach, Brian Johnson, is likely a lock as our next OC. If we didn't promote him, somebody else would. He's highly regarded as a rising star. Our DC, John Gannon, is badly underappreciated by Philly fans. They stay mad at him for not being more aggressive at times, but most in the NFL regard him as brilliant. He's a candidate for the Arizona Cardinals job. I hope he stays in Philly, and it's not entirely selfish. Arizona is a dumpster fire with little talent, no money, and a franchise QB who isn't. They'll be ruining head coaches for at least two or three more years.

Complaining about officiating is Busch League, as they say. Don't fumble the ball on a routine hand-change. Get just a single stop in the second half. Don't blow coverages repeatedly. Etc...

The only narrative about this great game though will be the penalty at the end. The worst part about that is the receiver would never have caught the ball. One can say the Chiefs again were the benefit of a penalty. Had the Bengals not committed that personal foul at the end, the game might have gone to OT. Against the Eagles, had the penalty not been called, it would have left time for Philly to move the ball down field to possibly score points. How should this be fixed?

Against the Eagles, had the penalty not been called, it would have left time for Philly to move the ball down field to possibly score points. How should this be fixed? I've heard repeated, serious discussions about booth-reviewing pass interference calls, jusr like TDs and turnovers, because of how devastating they are when made in error. I'd say that this one, a bad call to ice a Super Bowl, might be the final straw in favor of the change. To address Beerfish's comment, I sure hope this isn't a popular talking point. It definitely deserves some attention by the league, but it didn't decide the game. The Eagles' failure to get even a single stop in the second half decided the game. Mahomes, his OL, and Andy's playcalling deserve all the credit for this win. Edit: It's already a big topic. The entire sports world immediately expressed disgust on Twitter. Sigh. www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/10065420-refs-ripped-by-twitter-after-bulls--t-penalty-in-chiefs-super-bowl-win-vs-eagles.amp.htmltouchdownwire.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-fans-react-to-the-brutal-holding-call-that-decided-super-bowl-lvii/It definitely deserves discussion, but I can't see anyone suggesting that it won the game for KC. It did deny Philly a final possession, which sucks, but KC earned this win.

At least in the Bengals case. There was no reason for that penalty. In the Superbowl, there wasn't enough to have thrown the flag. The receiver would not have caught the ball no matter what. As some have said, let the players play.

That was an exciting game. We didn't have a team, so we just shouted "Go Sports" a lot. My favourite commercial was the Bud Light 'On Hold'.

It felt horrible though even from my uneducated perspective with a preference for the chief Great Game all in all, but could have been legendary with a last drive It's a penalty that's essentially a judgment call. Neutral fans and Eagles fans were disgusted because the contact between the players was inconsequential. In no way did it affect the outcome of the play. By throwing that flag, the official robbed everyone of whatever might've followed. Jalen Hurts had been unstoppable all day. 90 seconds was more than enough time for the Eagles to tie with a field goal or win the game with a touchdown. The fans and the Eagles deserved better. I've seen worse calls, and worse missed calls, but the timing was terrible. It was a miserable way for the officials to insert themselves into the freaking Super Bowl, and a great one at that, at the worst possible moment.

The penalty should have been overturned. The ball would not have been caught even if the receiver wasn't slowed down. The refs could call the ball uncatchable. It has been done before.
Jalen Hurts would make for a better MVP of the game in a losing cause. He proved it. He kept his composure after the fumble leading his team to a 10 point lead at halftime. KC made adjustments whereas the Eagles did not. The defense looked flat. It was surprising they allowed Mahomes to run freely at times.
The off-season will be big for the Eagles. They need to keep the players instead of losing them to another team due to free agency. Not much can be done for the players who choose to retire. Looking at you Kelce. For the draft, build depth for the defense and draft a center to replace Kelce if he decides to retire. Pay Hurts. He will do well next season. It's possible the Eagles could be back in the Superbowl.

To suggest that something like that might be a "teachable moment" is very inappropriate. For the record, they're no better or worse than than Kansas City fans.

If the Chiefs had a history of cheating like the New England Patriots, I might feel more unhappy, but they don't. I do look forward to a much-needed discussion of the proper role of officials this off-season when everyone's had a break.

Thanks frosted ... The relevant section on defensive holding ... note the lack of ball in the air (it wasn't) or ball uncatchable (both irrelevant to the penalty called): ARTICLE 6. DEFENSIVE HOLDING. It is a foul for defensive holding if: (a) a defensive player tackles or holds any opponent other than a runner, except as permitted in Article 5*. Note: Any offensive player who pretends to possess the ball, and/or one to whom a teammate pretends to give the ball, may be tackled until he crosses the line of scrimmage between the tackles of a normal tight offensive line. (b.) during a punt, field goal attempt, or Try-kick attempt, B1 grabs and pulls an offensive player out of the way, allowing B2 to shoot the gap (pull-and-shoot) in an attempt to block an apparent kick, except if B1 is advancing toward the kicker. Penalty: For defensive holding: Loss of five yards and an automatic first down. *Article 5 refers to legal use of hands or arms by defense and is not relevant to the holding call in question. Also note, NFL films caught the holding infraction in their game film ... largely not caught by the network cameras. The call was about the holding that occurred prior to the ball being thrown. In the NFL film, you see both the holding infraction and the ball still being in Mahomes' hand at the time of the infraction. If the ball was in the air, then pass interference could have been called ... but probably wouldn't have ... since the ball was most likely uncatchable ... which is relevant to pass interference, but not to defensive holding. And finally, the Philly cornerback, James Bradberry admitted that he held JuJu Smith-Schuster, but hoped it wouldn't be called.

This is the NFL. Let's not pretend that any team's fans haven't occasionally flipped a bird or two. And I don't disagree with the gesture, in this case. To suggest that a team should be penalized because of the behavior of its fans is very poor sportsmanship. One should not have to be told this. But apparently, it has to be said.

Well you sure didn't help your cause by flipping the bird did you? In fact you just looked like how people view Eagles fans! Yeah, that was the point. It was a very situationally aware, tongue-in-cheek joke aimed precisely at that unfair bias. If I were childish enough to get mad about something like that or actually want to use obscene gestures, I could just fall back on foul language and middle-finger emotes. Hopefully, it wasn't taken that way, but... 🤷♂️
