Even this thread comes with risk. Callout to posters to use generic races please when discussing vague content, eg, 'the Asari', 'the Krogan'. It's the forum equivalent of peeking through your fingers Yes. The best way to avoid spoilers is to stay away from anything MEA related online until launch. I am hanging out here for the time being to see if any new non spoiler info is revealed, but even then that will soon come to an end. By the end of the month, I will probably go 100% dark and not come back until I beat the game. Hell, even then I might not come back early until I beat the game twice making different choices and romances. I just want to be as pure as possible with MEA as opposed to ME1 where I knew just too much to the point where I wasnt experiencing the game for the first time, but rather just playing it for the first time.

I got pretty lucky in the trilogy as about the only thing I knew was that Shepard was dead at the beginning of ME2 and that there was a choice to make on Virmire. I didn't play either game until just before ME3 launch. With that, after getting to the end of ME1, I thought that Shepard would be dead from the impact of Sovereign so was pleasantly surprised that didn't happen. And Virmire didn't play out quite like I thought so that was a good surprise too. I could actually say the same for both DAO and DA2 since I didn't play either of those until they'd been out a while as well. DAI was really the only game I was spoiled on, and most of that was my own doing.

GAhh... It is so so DIFFICULT to stay away from all the interesting bits. I had a really really quick peak at a video and saw what I believe to be two future companions and one area. Then I got my hold of myself again and closed it down. Trying really hard to keep myself busy with other games/books/things so I go look for something again. Swing by the thread here every now and then just for some companionship. It feels a little bit strange to hype for the game all by my lonesome but I just knew far too much about Dragon Age Inquisition when I played that for the first time. Really looking forward to talking with people about the game later after the 1:st PT. Cheers everyone and keep yourself busy and happy. We will be playing soon

So do anyone know if it is possible to buy the standard edition as a physical copy in a store like Gamestop and then have it be upgraded to the deluxe edition with Origin? I'm asking because I like the standard edition's cover and I like to have a physical case in my bookshelf but I would also like the deluxe content.

Here are the dates for Mass Effect: Andromeda's release:
NA: March 21, 2017 EU: March 23, 2017
Just for those that didn't know it or are want to dodge sites with Andromeda information although it can probably be found on game store's pages for the game.

Yeah, me too. I was spoiled on Solas and Blackwall both. I'm going to try my darndest to avoid the forum until I've finished the game but I know that's going to be hard, especially if the structure/length is anything like DAI. I don't know if I can avoid this place for a whole month. That also means I won't be able to play MP unless I mute the chatter, just in case something slips from another player. I would like to get started on MP early this time around too, since I was very late to the party in ME3 and missed out on a lot.
Aw, I'm sorry to hear that. Even I didn't have the Solas twist, I had the Blackwall twist at least. It is going to be hard for me to not look up forums and such because I love seeing other peoples' reactions and checking TvTropes but that was kind of how I lost out on the Solas twist so none of that for me if I can help myself this time around.
I usually play multiplayer silent because I like to have music on so spoilery chatter wouldn't be a concern for me but I think I'm still going to hold off on it until I've finished the game. This is in case of something like one of the maps being a destroyed version of a hub or friends that became foes because of a plot twist.

When I went on blackout, I pretty much dropped the Reddit section for Mass Effect for that reason.
I know the premise of the game as well as details including one I'd rather not have known but would probably have deduced when it was time to pick up my copy. I know some information about the main character including a major thing but I don't mind knowing that major thing so much because it is something that my character would know from the get-go and something I would learn at the beginning.
I know some of the locations because of trailers and screenshots. Also because of the magazine interview.
I know two of the companions' names and one's appearance but I think I've pretty much figured out the appearance of, at least, one more due to my study of the trailers and survey in the CSI BSN thread. I also think I've figured some of the twists that might be in the game so it'll be fun to see if I got it right.
I do also hope that there'll be a Mass Effect equivalent to the Mirror of Transformation because it cannot be stressed enough from me how well-liked that is. It does not need to be anything grand: just put a mirror in our room and let us use that whenever. While I sometimes use the mirror to make minor corrections to my character's face, I actually tend to use it to change my character to fit certain developments or missions.
Example: in Dragon Age 2, I used the mirror to better signify a passage of time. When my character became a noble in Act 2, her ponytail became a bun and she had make-up added to her. It had the nice side effect of making her look slightly older as well.
Example: In Dragon Age Inquisition, I used it similarly like in Trespasser but I also changed my character's appearance for certain quests like the the one where members of the Inqusition attend an Orlesian ball. I dolled up my usually casual-looking Inquisitor so she fitted more in with the setting.
It would be nice and neat to be able to do the above in Andromeda like adding scars after a brutal mission in the storyline or change hairstyle and slap on some make-up for a formal gathering or a date. I use to do that in Mass Effect 3 although I sometimes ended up overdressing. That's what happens when you only have about three different styles of clothes that go uniform, slum and fancy.
The Andromeda Initiative videos are a bit of tricky business. The videos are basically an in-universe video course on procedures and guidelines that the game acts as if the player is watching. I think it's a very neat idea but not something I recommend for those that want to save some surprises such as on personnel. They do contain spoilers but most of the spoilers function akin to pop-ups that appear if you click on something that comes up as the video is running through different topics. Some of these include pictures. This information can also sometimes be seen if you scroll down on the site. If you absolutely don't want to know then I don't recommend viewing them.

not clear at the moment (source: tweet from a dev) Drat. I know that a digital upgrade to deluxe was avaliable for physical copies of Mass Effect 3 so I'm hoping it's the same for Andromeda but I'm not sure I want to chance it. Hopefully, there might be news of it before release.

I would prefer not to be spoiled, but I suspect moderator duties will preclude that. I might go for a 'quick and dirty' playthrough to enjoy as many surprises as possible and leave completionist for 2nd go...

That way you can delegate out some of the menial daily moderating stuff while you sit back and enjoy the game. Depending on how long MEA is along with my work schedule, it could take me up to 2+ months to complete so I will be in no rush to complete the game. My 2nd playthrough wont come until I read the 3rd MEA novel. Speaking of length, has Bioware given as estimate on how long it should take to beat the game in terms of hours?

It will be fine I think. As for length, similar to DAI would be my guess... I think it's going to vary greatly depending on what each player want to do: someone focusing on the story is probably going to have the game done in far fewer hours than someone taking their time with exploration and all that. That's not going by the story as being short, just that taking your time and exploring tends to collect a lot of hours. I almost think it'd be better if the developers don't disclose it for that reason.
Is anyone else hoping they'll allow us to names saves this time around? If not, I just hope that Andromeda has not inherited Inquisition's save system.

I mean, what direction will they go? With ME3, the longest ME game thus far could be completed within ~40 hours if you do everything (minus DLC). However DAI could be completed within ~80-100 hours if you do everything (minus DLC) So would MEA be more like ME3 in terms of scope or DAI? I am sure that Bioware has not talked about this yet, but it is something I would like to know. Also, I wonder if MEA will go with 6 party members like ME1 and ME3 or the 12 party members like ME2 or 8 like DAI?

Well I hope there is at least 7+. Right now I know the names and races of all the confirmed ones now. Of those, I have only seen 1 and partially seen 2. So if there are 7+ party members, that still gives me a few surprises on my first playthrough.

I'm thinking seven as well although that is barring temporary squadmates. I have this feeling that we might be seeing temporary squadmates and not in the Jenkins sense. I mean, we may have a sacrificial lamb early on again but I think we might have people who either leave the squad or join the squad for story-related reasons throughout the game. One example would be how a villain of the game might end up joining the squad for the last stretch of the game like Loghain from Dragon Age: Origins did.
Note: Jenkins' full name was Corporal Richard Leeroy Jenkins. Ah, the dangers of naming your children after internet memes.

Andromeda Initiative briefing #3: Tempest & Nomad
Is it safe to watch?
Contains no character images at all. Voiced by a named (unseen) Salarian (new in MEA)
Lots of pretty flying around / driving around / some environments. Images of the inside of the Tempest. Descriptions of the different functions of zones of the Tempest.

I've even just finished watching the second part of Team Four Star's Broly movie.
I have to say that I really like these briefings: I think it's a clever and cool idea to present the information as in-universe briefings. I am legitimately excited for the briefing on first contact. I really want our character to be allowed to try using the guidelines even if it won't work.
Is it noted that the pop-ups in the second briefing contains information and images about the non-squadmate personnel including their race and, I think, gender?

Correct, there are a few NPC pop ups in briefing 2 - but none in briefing 3.

Correct, there are a few NPC pop ups in briefing 2 - but none in briefing 3. Yeah, the third briefing - this new one - is basically just a tour of the ship and its capabilities. It also gives a tour of the vehicle, its functions and shows paintsjob for it. I like what I've seen of both and oh man, I cannot wait to explore it myself. I hope what I've heard about us being allowed to customize our room to an extent proves true.
While I like the look of our quarters, though a bit big, I'm not so fond of the windows. I love looking at the stars and I like having the view but at the same time, I would personally be terrified of sleeping in a room with such structural weaknesses. I had the same feeling when I noticed the window in Shepard's cabin. It's just the view I want to fall asleep to but at the same time, I would be so worried about it breaking. I also adore the botany seen in the lab and in the crew quarters!
Also, there was a line that made me chuckle. Part of it is how it is delivered. The narrator knows what's up.
"The Pathfinder's quarters are off-limited to the general crew... unless invited, of course." Note: the last spoiler is a quote from the video and the other is my opinion on some of the images. No information outside the video is in them. I thought I'd best tag 'em as spoilers just in case.

While it contains no plot or character spoilers, it does show off the interior of the Temptest which is something I rather experience first when I play the game. I have read some details about the interior from other threads, but that is as far as I go. I will avoid any screenshots, concept art, or videos of the Temptest interior. Also hearing the Salarian VO ingame for the first time is an experience I want to preserve as well.

The briefing played in the background with the sound off while I was doing something else, because I still want the goodies. How does these briefings work anyways? Are they interactive videos or just normal videos that you can just watch on YouTube?

How does these briefings work anyways? Are they interactive videos or just normal videos that you can just watch on YouTube? They are on the official Mass Effect website (no spoilers on this page), under 'begin mission training', not interactive or anything. Unless you count clicking on some sort of codex entries that pop up while you watch to read more about something that was mentioned in the video. You just watch them and if you're logged in on your account you get a progress update afterwards. Once you've watched all six videos (not all of them are out yet) you get a helmet for Ryder.
