Is this real? It's still an RPG... right? Hopefully it's just a marketing technique to get people who don't otherwise play RPGs to flock to the game even more. It's real as that's the official twitter account. The question was asked on the official forums and a dev answered with "we still have dialogue choices, don't worry" and then one of their fan started to bash people saying that wasn't enough to make a RPG by saying "update your definition of RPGs to the 21st century".

That gameplay they already showcased displayed pretty much is going to be action rpg. Like DAI - just with guns. Kinda like contemporary FO maybe.

I never expected much RPGness from the game once they announced a set protagonist and limited skill options, but then I don't consider The Witcher 3 to be a RPG either. So, if TW3 is enough of a RPG for you, I wouldn't be fearful of them labeling Cyberpunk 2077 as an action-adventure story game, it's probably similar in RPGness level.

So a game based off a pen and paper RPG series is not even going to be a RPG video game? So much for "doing Cyberpunk right".

Saying that, what they showed last year didn't have much in common with the pnp outside the dictionary* and look. *how things are named, expression, etc

Well, I do think RPG elements will be similar to the Witcher 3. Think about it. What were the RPG elements in Witcher 3? - Dialogue choices - check - A List of perks that we could choose a bunch of active ones from and which we could upgrade - That will be there, simply because of the implants we can use, even if there is no skill system outside of those whatsoever, the implants will very likely basically translate into perks. - Equipment with stats - well. we'll definitely have equipment - Alchemy/Crafting - They said drugs will play a huge role. Don't know if we'll be able to craft anything but I assume drugs will work similar to potions in W3. - Character levels up and gains more HP and stuff with each level - Don't know if that will be there but ultimately, even in W3, the opponents that are intersting for you to fight scale with your level, so the net effect of this is rather minimal and is just a balancing mechanic.
So in the end, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Don't think it will be less of an RPG than Witcher 3 was.

Well, we now have confirmation that some of the direction changed (not what you think). From IGN live viewing of the demo write-up quoting a dev: "Players can play the entire game without killing an enemy." Last year, they claimed it wasn't going to be possible to do none-lethal playthrough. edit: Bouahahaha, CDPR borrowed from Mass Effect Andromeda narrative, I guess that was unavoidable with an "immortality chip" in your head.

To go back to the RPG not!RPG discussion we were having. In the demo IGN saw: - Perks can affect dialogues options - Path choice (a character creation option) affect dialogues options - Hacking vs Strength build play very differently (CDPR reloaded to an earlier section to show a Strength build, they played all of it with a Hacker build though) Strength build use melee weapons.

My comparison because of a few things in the write up of the demo by IGN. ghost!Johnny = a more opinionated less polite SAM but probably isn't into temperature/weather forecast all the time and looks like V gets killed in the narrative a few times, but come back to life because of the immortality chip somewhat like Ryder does in MEA. I'm rather surprised CDPR went with a main quest mid-game for the demo. They are releasing lots of spoilers in the wild. edit: New screenshots are starting to be released online.

However, if their boasting about all the C&C and interactivity of the game is to be believed, this could just be one iteration of the mission, depending on what you did before. In that case, it would only "spoil" one possible path.

I'd be a lot more interested in this game if it had third person perspective. I just don't get a good enough view of what's going on in the first person format. Peripheral vision doesn't exist. You can't turn your head without turning your whole body, and usually by then it's too late. It just doesn't work for me. That could be design intent. If they are going for a claustrophobic feel of walking through crowded city streets without great situational awareness, potentially it could add to the feel of it. Not going to try and convince you if you really don’t like first person at all, but for whether for that or other reasons, the devs made an artistic choice to go with first person. I wouldn’t write off that decision until the game is out. I generally prefer third person too, FWIW.

Pacifist run possible? Awesome! Now I'm a bit less worried the game will not be to my liking after all. I really DON'T like all the gritty uber violence and I'm not much into cyberpunk settings in general.
CDPR is why I'm excited, not the game itself. It looks technically impressive but not emotionally engaging so far. The more I see of it the less I feel like I'm going to enjoy the gameplay...
This could turn into a major disappointment. So I'm hoping for enough play style options to allow for something I can actually enjoy. Because what they're showing isn't it in terms of combat...

I'm still on the fence about the game and will probably wait until it releases to see reviews and reactions. I really don't like 1st person so that is a major turnoff for me. The possibility of a pacifist PT is definitively intriguing though.

Hm, I'm not sure how keen I am about Keanu Reeves's character being an illusion in the protagonist's head.
Could be lame like Andromeda's SAM. Or it could be like the illusion of Elvis in True Romance, that would be really cool.

Well, there is braindance, drugs, smartchips and cyberpsychosis - lots of stuff that can make you see all kind of things in the future. You just gotta chip in.
