BTW, who is this "Mike" some people were talking about? Mike Pondsmith. He is the guy who created the Cyberpunk 2020 pen and paper RPG that Cyberpunk 2077 is a sequel to.

Really hope Silverhand doesn't turn out to be another SAM. Doesn't help that I don't care about actors in video so Reeves does nothing for me.

Damn....maybe I'm weird, but this interview, with its deliberations about worldbuilding and themes, that'll get me hyped about the game more than anything else. And I don't even know the RPG setting, except by name and skimming a rulebook for a few minutes about 10 years ago.

Speaking of Mike, he didn't like the RSP article (yes that's the real Mike Pondsmith).

Clearly, but for me it was important that he attempted to sell the world, not the game. I looked up what RPS had to say about Cyberpunk 2077. Well, they did a short report on what was presented at E3, but they also did a whole article on this "transphobia" issue which was significantly longer than the E3 report.

I think these " gamer journalists "are more hurting themself and their reputation than CD Project. Nobody cares what they say. The devs have just to see it.
RSP had to close its comment section given the negative reception of its article, censoring all the messages that displeased them. Maybe it was done on purpose for clickbait. At least on that point, it suceeded, given the traffic, even if it was harsh.

This outrage indeed will not affect game.. They tried doing the same to TW3 for sticking close to the material, and it sold 22mil plus. This game will sell even more, I think. It is crazy that they always label the whole company as transphobic because of 2 meme tweets which by the way, got fired from gog and red.
On that transphobic thought. Correct me if Im wrong, as I am not a native english speaker, but isn't phobic=phobia=extreme fear of something? So how can cdpr/cyberpunk 2077 be transphobic when they seem to be in the game displayed in their "humongous" glory? And from what I've read you can play whatever gender you want. The whole thing does not make sense.

So how can cdpr/cyberpunk 2077 be transphobic when they seem to be in the game displayed in their "humongous" glory? And from what I've read you can play whatever gender you want. The whole thing does not make sense. Phobia can include fear of a true representation of something. Someone can be totally fine with cartoon drawings of spiders but an honest-to-life spider, even one not at all dangerous, poisonous, etc, causes incredible panic and/or hatred (whatever, inspired by fear). An argument about something like, for example, homophobia, is that some people can easily maliciously joke about a fake idea of gay people that's in their heads, or calmly discuss gay people in a super disdainful way yet a way that we don't typically read as 'fearful', but they have up to a viciously violent reaction (but many sorts of reactions otherwise; doesn't need to be the most extreme) to a real gay person 'revealed' to them in person. This reaction doesn't need to be fight or flight, but just utterly irrational aversion to the situation they're actually facing. Sometimes this is because of early teachings in their lives. Sometimes this is because of early abusive experiences. Sometimes this is because of the constant covering up that they're in the closet. Sometimes it is a trained response in order to signal sexual virtue. Sometimes just some ideas of gay people brought on a yucky feeling and they decided at some point to keep pushing that feeling into more intensity until it became even more natural feeling to do so. When someone says an aspect of media is transphobic, they're usually not saying that the creator of the media is in the midst of a panic about trans people, but that the media is at least inspired by ideas that transphobic people grab onto to justify their transphobia. Not just as politics (but can be that), but in their personal thoughts. All media has a message (by definition) and sometimes a message of transphobia is conveyed - intentionally or unintentionally, or perhaps simply allegedly. This is similar language as to call media 'violent'* or 'egalitarian' or 'fluffy' or 'powerful'. Whatever descriptors. Its not directly any of these things - a video game cannot feel intense fear - but it has a similar enough effect on people, the audience, compared to if it were not to be what it is being described as (at least arguably). Black face in American media didn't need to be what it was - but what it was, was demeaning and dehumanizing racist media about black people. And some people who don't consciously digest their media indeed, many times, would take the tropes connected to black face as an effective reality, and this encouraged them to be okay with interacting with black people in worse ways than otherwise. *usually we come to consensus that 'violent video games/media' doesn't make most people more violent (studies keep slapping us with 'no, that is silly' sorts of results about that), but there is easily the ongoing debate on whether it assists already more violently leaning people into deciding violence, or occasionally convinces people to accept externally violent environments, choices, or outcomes even if they do not commit the violence themselves (thus military funded/supported games to act as recruitment tool - not just in potential skill, but affinity for violent roles). While I don't personally regard the poster as transphobic, I don't begrudge some (particularly trans people themselves) from expressing that they do. Perhaps they're right, perhaps they're wrong, but I'm nearly certain that this stuff isn't actually causing huge grief for CDPR themselves. As professionals they consider feedback and may or may not act on it. If doxxing, violent threats, ongoing harassment, etc occurs though, that's another matter that must be addressed. Nothing at all stops a game with diverse gender expression options to also include discriminatory messages, within the same entertainment experience.

The whole thing does not make sense. The narrative I see popping up is CDPR objectifying trans people because, according to the progressives, straight people tend only to see trans people as sex objects. Which is complete horseshit, but also this is a dystopian future so the artist's intent was that everyone gets objectified by the corporations in Night City. It's supposed to be a cynical take.

The outrage is good and free PR for the game. I've seen so many companies do this. Take a fairly reasonable stance on something that pisses off a very vocal minority. People see the rage and go good for company and buy their product. Honestly can't believe it's still working some people don't think too far ahead I guess.

Every car we ever managed to scrounge got quickly shot to bits under our asses in the table-top game. I think even Trauma Team is wary of extraction in the Combat Zone.

Very keen to see if "you can play the whole game without killing anyone" is actually true. Sounds like it. One of the interviews talked about even in parts that require fighting there are weapons that have non-lethal options and after things like boss fights you are given the option to spare them.

Very keen to see if "you can play the whole game without killing anyone" is actually true. It will basically just be the same as killing the npcs, except the rare occassion of a boss scene as per usual with every RPG.

Lead Quest Designer: "... And in the game the romance and sexuality, it’s really present. Because we are sexual beings, that’s obvious."
Interviewer: "It’s not obvious in games. There’s almost no sexuality in games."
Lead Quest Designer: "We are CD Projekt, so it’s obvious to us. [laughs] Sexuality was very present in The Witcher games and I think here it’s even more present, but I think here we are a bit more mature because we are allowing the player to craft their own character a bit more. "

I never felt so torn about one thing in my life like with this game. Every detail looks perfect(the character creator looks like a dream) and it’d mean a granted pre-order, but on the other hand I hate FPP too much to not be pissed off every time I’d run it.
Maybe I’ll just get the game and spend my time creating characters.
