you guys are getting me super curious about the Stenmance.
I just don't know how I'd get through the game not romancing Alistair or Zevran

Does Sten count as an Ambiguous asexual relationship? He calls you Kadan and asks approved Warden to follow him to Qun land. Honestly? Well. No? I guess this kind of ties into a problem I have with a lot of media. Basically the idea of someone being close close friends with someone just doesn't exist anymore. It has to be romantic in some way. I could see the same argument being made for Shale, because you are allowed to flirt with her. I mostly just see it as Sten having deep, deep respect for the warden.

I just don't know how I'd get through the game not romancing Alistair or Zevran Well, it's not actually any different from his relationship with any other Warden.... just with lots of headcanon, lol. But fwiw, I played a Mahariel who was grief-stricken over the loss of Tamlen and the "normal" life she never had. She was way too dour for either Zevran or Alistair (and she spared Loghain to punish him with Warden-hood, so Al wouldn't have worked out anyway...). She understood being homesick and proud and bonded with Sten over that. I think he took her death pretty hard, but honor is honor and as far as Sten's concerned she did the right thing by giving up her own life to stop the Blight.

I mostly just see it as Sten having deep, deep respect for the warden. I think it's canon that Sten has a lot of respect for a high-approval Warden and everything else is ultimately wishful thinking, but it's still fun and harmless to think about. My Warden who was close to Sten was also close to Morrigan but there was nothing romantic there, so it's not that every relationship has to be romantic. It's just a fun idea to explore with someone stoic and closed-off like Sten.

I'd prepare for Sten showing up in DA4. He is Arishok after all. But I don't think his relationship with Warden would have that much of an impact on him - as much as he respects DAO's protagonist, he still went back on Par Vollen convinced that the South needs good invading.

I agree! And besides the convictions he already had, I'm sure they gave him a thorough re-educating after traipsing around Ferelden with all those bas for a year... And it's extremely unlikely, but I'd love to see some sort of confrontation (even a harshly-worded letter!) between Divine Leliana and the Stenishok. Leliana: It took three Exalted Marches to drive [the Qunari] back to the sea. Sten: We'll do better next time.

I wonder if there is a reason the Qunari have delayed renewing all out war. Trouble at home, I wonder. Trouble I want to learn about One major reason they lost before is because the South unleashed its mages on them. They have to find a way to neutralize them and Trespasser appears to be showing their preparations for it - attacking South from behind and dealing with their leadership first (now thwarted) as well as feeding sareebas lyrium so they could have advantage over Southern mages in raw power alone. Who knows what else they've been preparing? I guess we may find out sooner than later.

This isn't about expecting Sten to have some sort of interaction or mention of relationship, but potential permanent effect Warden could have on character. And they could only have it in a sense that Sten recognizes that there are people worthy of respect living in the South. But when it comes to Qun, Qunari or pending invasion... Sten didn't appear to have budged an inch. Apart from maybe ordering Qunari to start baking cookies.

Trouble I want to learn about Yeah, the Qunari empire comes across like those governments who constantly saber-rattle to keep the domestic war hawks happy, but don’t actually intend to follow through. Kind of like Celene and the chevaliers — she has to pretend like she’s considering another invasion, even though doing so would be monumentally stupid.

I mean, “a violent faction of our citizens is salivating for war, and we’re trying to string them along until someone else has to deal with them” seems like a pretty precarious situation all on its own. They’ve already had two near-misses with the Arishok’s drunken rampage through Kirkwall, and the Viddasala planning a merry assassination tour. They’ve got to walk that delicate line of appearing to favor invasion, without actually escalating tensions with other nations. There’s room for intrigue there.

There’s room for intrigue there. I feel like there is already so much on their Narrative plate, though, that a "rebellion at home" wouldn't get pushed to the fore on any significant level, and therefore be dropped. *Sigh* At least we know the game official exists now, eh?

And yeah, that’s about as likely as getting a sylvan protagonist. But a sentient tree player can dream, right?

*whispers* unless we get a Qunari protagonist. Actually the true qualifier is if they returned to their roots in the BEST way and brought in Origins again. Then and only then would a Qunari protag option get access to such delicious gossip. Also, I think Sylvan's will never happen again. Somewhere along the way they decided being anything like Tolkien was a sin.

Damn, I probably shouldn't have left him in that cage in Lothering... (Don't judge me, DA:O was my first BW game, I didn't know he could be a companion! And he did murder people, but I've become much more liberal about that since!).

I'm pretty damn sure de-golemed Shale will be in the game. We know she went to Tevinter, and I pretty sure she was turned back into a dwarf.
I'm guessing she will fight with a Maul. Because she still likes crushing things.
Maybe even be a party member/romance option. That would be pretty neat.
