Now that we know DA4 is on the way, it's time for one of my favorite topics. Who are the new companions you'd like to see in the game? With 3 games already done, it can get hard to create new and interesting companions who we don't feel like we've seen before. Mass Effect Andromeda seemed to suffer from this.
So let's hear what companions you'd like to have in the game...
For one, I would love a "dark", female, human warrior companion, as we haven't had anyone fill this role in an DA game. Avaline and Cassandra are both noble warriors, and I think having a barbarian woman with a bloodlust and thirst for battle would make a fun person to interact with. Possibly an Avvar or Chasind.
Secondly, a "good" female mage would be nice. Every female mage companion so far has either been like Morrigan or Vivienne or dabbles in blood magic like Merril. I would be nice to meet a good mage who doesn't walk on the dark side.
Third, I would love to see both a female dwarf and qunari companion in any aspect. These are the two race/gender combos we haven't seen yet, so adding them in would be nice. However, rehashing old personalities for these new companions wouldn't be welcome. A new race/gender combo is no excuse for making a boring companion.
Finally, I'd like to see a rogue companion that isn't an assassin, thief, or storyteller(bard). A unique spin on a rogue would be to have a scout or secret agent/spy companion.
Other things I'd really like to see is a straight up "evil" companion, who enjoys causing pain and mayhem instead of messing with shades of gray. And a companion who you can have some influence over their "alignment" on like you could with Jaesa in SWTOR. Guiding them down the light or dark path. And I'd also like to have a child or teenage companion join the group, like Mission Vao in KOTOR.

Well if the assumption that we are going to be in the midst of Tevinter/Qunari machinations is true that would likely require
1) A viewpoint supporting the Tevinter status quo especially if there's going to be the likes of Dorian/Maevaris spouting their new agenda. Perhaps a former slave become Laetan.
2) Assume we'll need a qunari viewpoint, perhaps a female Tal-vashoth. Though they could perhaps lasso back in someone like Tallis.
3) Given how close we are to Seheron, perhaps a male Fog Warrior, who was made an outcast and has turned mercenary
4) I'd like to see a rivaini seer
5) A beautiful female elf rogue, hopefully turns out to be one of Solas' spies

- Tal-Vashoth - We've had a soldier loyal to the Qun and a spy on the knifes edge. I'd say it's time to have someone who just straight up hates it. A companion raised by the qun, who deliberately left. Someone who had a role we haven't seen before, like one from the arigena or a non ben-hassreth Ariqun. Preferably female since we haven't had that yet. eg Perhaps a mage that fled at puberty to avoid being saarebas? Or a more normal average joe who couldn't accept the role they/others were assigned? Or a rogue tamassran?
- If we're to have another secret agenda/betrayal character (say for example a spy for solas) then have them be something other then an apostate mage like the last three please. How about city elf working as part of a slave rebellion?
- I'd like to see a female dwarf, since we're talking new characters as opposed to returning (like Shale, Harding), a Kal'sharok dwarf would be an awesome window into a culture we haven't seen yet.
- A tevinter pro status quo character - like an imperial legionnaire or something?
- I'm behind the female barbarian idea.
- I'd like to see a Dalish elf (and their clan) who's against Solas.

There was Wynne.
As for the question...
- Human or elf who follows the Qun. We've met the likes of Gat and Tallis but it would be good to have one those converts as our companion.
- Tevinter Loyalist. Someone who is loyal to Tevinter and doesn't wish to see it change unlike Dorian, Maevaris, etc. "Duty before conscience" (I also hope we can play that kind of character ourselves).
- Proper City Elf (like Shianni). All our former City Elf companions haven't really been typical City Elves... Fenris was a former slave, Zevran was working with the Crows, etc. Someone who was born and raised in the Alienage and cares about the City Elves (like Briala does - I wouldn't mind if she was to be our companion).
- Ancient Elf, enemy of Solas, follower of the Evanuris. To get a different viewpoint about what happened so long ago. Now all we have is what Solas chose to tell us. This Ancient Elf would want revenge and justice for what Solas has done to his people and gods.

Would love to see a different viewpoint of the Evanuris from the heavy handed anti approach that seemed to prevail in DAI(especially Trespasser)

I think we can see the seekers/templars as dark organisation. Both are corrupted. This is why Cassandra must rebuild and reform the seekers. But yes, Cassandra personally's noble. Merrill was "good", the blood magic isn't inherently evil. Depend on the user. And she' really nice person, good hearted and kind. Wynne was "good", true, she's an "Abomination"... a good one. What's your problem with her? _____________ Avvar mage would be nice. I prefer possessed one, in good cooperation with his spirit. Dwarf merchant, lyrium dealer. Potencially LI! We need a dwarf LI! Tevinter Templar/Legionare Fog Warrior Tal Vashoth Ancient elf Grey Warden blood mage Tevinter free city elf mage/rogue Elf, who supports Solas (And I want a non-stereotipical gay LI: a Knight, if possible, and please, don't be witty, charming fashion-stylist!) Eh whatever, I'm not too good on it.

I want an ancient elf that's not down with what Solas is up to. Though it doesn't technically have to be an elf I guess I'd be fine with someone connected to the elven gods being able to offer that perspective. An 'awakened' Morrigan maybe. I also want a darkly seductive amoral bad boy type.

- Assuming we are indeed going to Tevinter, I want to see a dwarf from the Ambassadoria. Preferably a warrior, assuming Scout Harding will be a returning character.
- Since we've seen Qun-loyal Sten and Iron Bull who can go either way depending on player choice, it's time for a Tal'Vashoth comapanion who hates the Qun. (Or a Vashoth, I , but we've already seen some of that point of view with Adaar Inquisitors, whereas we've never spent an extended amount of time with a Tal'Vashoth.) An ex-Saarebas for maximum impact!
I'm all in favour of Fog Warriors, Rivani seers, Avvar of all kinds, Tevinter Templars and a variety of other suggestions, but those are the two I want to see most.

oh, oooh, ooooooooooo! a desire de.. spirit. that disguise as an animal as to not draw attention but changes back during combat. now that would be cool! =D

An ex-Saarebas for maximum impact! Extra points if the saarebas got magic late in life, and originally comes from the Arigena's area. I want to meet a farmer or crafter of the Qun, because I expect her experiences would be very different from the warriors and the Ben-Hassrath. Since the typical medieval ratio requires about 10 villagers to supply 1 soldier, the Qunari likely have huge advances in producing food and other necessities, beyond even their gaatlok tech. Unless a large proportion of the viddathari are women, or if they've messed with the ratios via selective breeding, only half of their population is even eligible for supply work. And some of that half will end up going into spy and priest roles. We know their weapons are advanced, but it's safe to assume that their food, clothing, and shelter are also produced with industrial techniques.

I would be nice to meet a good mage who doesn't walk on the dark side. Bethany? I like a demon companion. A mage companion with the shapeshifter ability Forget the companion, I want to play as an abomination One can dream, I guess. I would like to see a druid or ranger-like specialization in DA4, though. ------------ I want a liberati on my team, or even an escaped slave. It would be even better if you have to be careful where you take this companion, so that they don't get recaptured. One elf who secretly sympathizes with Solas, or is even spying on you for him, and another elf who is completely against what Solas is doing. Depending on your actions throughout the game, you have the opportunity to change their minds, and you either gain another real ally, or another enemy. Or trade one for the other, I guess.

I want a fierce, mysterious, vicious, minx of an elf hunter. In DA2 and DAI there was early concept art of this character. (she has been re-iterated multiple times) I've always loved the way this character looks and really want to see her become realized. I imagine her as being a renegade type that doesn't often say anything, but when she does it is always with impact.

Why would the Fog Warrior need to be an outcast? I'd rather they were a proud member of their culture than have someone who has been forced to leave it because of "reasons". They could have been captured and made a slave by Tevinter with the PC freeing them (warrior) or they could have travelled to the mainland in order to find out more about their enemies (rogue). They could even be a Fog Dancer (mage) who seem to fill a similar lore preservation role among their people that the Keepers and Storytellers do in the Dalish. Of course we could be travelling to Seheron and so meet them out in the jungle. I definitely want someone from the Fog Warrior culture because they are opposed to both Tevinter and the Qun and I also think there are some great opportunities for interesting new lore.
I would also like a Rivaini Seer but in this case it could be someone who has voluntarily left their homeland because they don't like the way things are managed there - in other words a male mage who is always seen as inferior in the eyes of his culture or a male warrior/rogue who resents the fact that he cannot advance himself in his society because he both lacks magic and is the wrong gender. However, I'd be just as happy with a female Rivaini seer with no grudge and a legitimate reason for being away from her homeland.
There have been hints of new classes that could be possible in Tevinter from the codices about the place and the comics. Mage Killer seems now to be a recognised class of warrior and there also seems to be a group of specialist Shadow Thieves (Praesumptor), possibly the same as the Tevinter assassins that Dorian mentions. There are of course 3 different mage classes that someone could come from: Altus, Laetans or Liberati/Slave and both normal Soporati and what is probably the category given to Altus who do not have magic (Praeteri). I think the latter would make for an interesting companion considering you would then get the perspective of someone who is probably despised by their relatives for not having magic and ridiculed by the Soporati for the same reason. In a culture where everyone seems to be wanting their children to have magical ability, a non-mage Altus would be regarded in much the same way as a mage is among the noble families in the south.

Do you suppose that female elven character was the original concept for the design of Sera? She is clearly not Dalish and does have a bow in the first picture. The hair style would have to have been abandoned seeing as with Frostbite there are no braids/plaits on offer, so Sera could have been what resulted from an overhaul of her design. Still I wouldn't object to having a companion like her so long as she was happy identifying as an elf and preferably able to be romanced by a male elf (assuming we are still allowed different races in the next game).
