I tried it like 2 years ago? Went the game went free-ish, a friend of mine told me and we were supposed to play... Installed it and everything, played it once and never again. Not for anything particularly, is just that we were busy in our own things and never got to play again. The idea was to play together (especially because I have a thing for NOT liking MMOs, so playing alone tends to be a no-no for me), but it ended up not working so I uninstalled the thing. Comes to think, I still don't know how I have Warframe installed yet, haven't touched that one neither in like 8 months now.

I halted a few months after I found myself doing repetitive things day after day so I'll have a few S3 eps to catch up on which is great. I've already ordered PoF. I'll be dropping in some time end of the month to catch up with the eps and my guildmates. My main toon is not a Charr but a human ranger. This was what I was doing before I decided to take another break.

Been playing off and on since it started. Mostly play Ranger for the Archery and pet skills to have a companion. All the pets are named after Tolkien characters. Mesmer and Necromancer professions are also very fun. Jumping puzzles are incredibly fun. Most fun when I meet a player and we pal around for a bit. One time I was fighting the large shell things and me and another player kept dying. We kept re-spawning, running to each others aid, by the end every piece of armor was damaged but we finally killed the thing and traveled together for a bit. That makes the game extra fun. For me, this is definitely one of the great things about Guild Wars 2. There is no need to fight over resources or loot or xp. Everyone gets something. As a veteran player, of sorts, on mmorpgs, this is a vast improvement over the old ghastly game mechanics of first come, first served, first to win with the high end gear. Everyone is cooperative and willing to get fallen players up; rub that ground, it's very friendly. I also like it that no one can see the armor stats of other players. This takes away discrimination and pissing contests. It's not the hard-to-get- grindy-gear that will score the win. The game emphasizes on social cohesion and collaboration. No matter how tough the boss or a mission is, as long as players banded together as one, the difficulty can be overcome. * I purposely recorded some events so I'll have an idea how long I was away. Rather long imo. I did the Tyria events until it was running out of my ears and I said; ok break time.
Last I remembered, I was active for the Winter events. I love the toy events. I forgot what it's called; toy land? It's where players have to defend the animals from the rampaging toys, building up snow forts, snowmen, toy catapaults and cannons and shooting with toy rifles or bashing with toy candy canes as the means of defense. I really love that one, all the cute toys and the cute little buildings. I'm not too overly fond of the JP, I never made it to the end. I hope it comes back again this December. I also logged in for the New Year and then stopped. It's definitely time to go back. Dang. I recorded the escort game but not the other one.

It's fun enough as MMOs go, though I've been spoiled by TOR in terms of story and dialogue. I had great ideas for my characters when I made them, springboarding off the starting points the game provides but most of those fell flat on the face of the stock cardboard cut out "yes I will do hero things beep boop" responses. For example: I made a human mesmer commoner who wanted to join the circus. Would she not be the height of snark, quipping at every opportunity? NO! says the Guild Wars. Oh well, at least she's pretty. Still there's enough there to go back once in a while and have fun, and it is free once bought, so I can't complain too much. I was most active when playing with RL friends. Plus you get to nail kids in the face with snowballs. Something for everyone.

I never go for Ops, etc because you-need--this-piece-of-crap or you-need-to-be-level 8650 in order to play the missions. The inevitable wait for a spawn item is still there; someone has been here, have to wait for boss or item to respawn. Then along comes another player who snips in and grabs it because your latency is worse than his and you're obliged to spend more time waiting. No, I will not stand around waiting for a mission item that should have been readily available. The devs have tried to improve on this by converting open missions to private instances but they didn't get all. I stopped my sub after they changed the gear system to the RNG thingy so that stopped in March. Despite reports that the RNG isn't so bad, I have no inclination to go back to grind for them; I did a lot of grinding for the previous system and I'm tired of it. I heard they have since added one or two more stories so I might or might not go back for it. GW2 is the priority though, I've to catch up on the Living Story. Like the videos. The festival event are fun as are the group events. Just before Heart came out I deleted my characters to start fresh. Why? I don't know . Lost all my minis because I forgot they were there. So right now have a archer been working on since last fall, now just doing the Heart story to get the gliders. My mesmer and necro are started by waiting. It's a nice game to relax with. Oh no. The poor minis! I started a few, I think I have a warrior, a mesmer and a necro but I have not been playing them much; I've decided to just concentrate on the human Ranger. While I like the stories, I wish AN would throw the Commander a personal story of her/his own and a bit of romance. That would enliven things up a bit. You haven't got the glider. Ok, I can tell you one of the missions is rather hairy since you're required to glide at certain moments. So, practise practise!

And thankfully you can do just stories now, along with heroics or an FP or too for a boost, so much of the bullshit is circumvented. That being said I still enjoy the odd FP. Mostly because my operative healer. Through her I've really grown to like healing and GW kinda lacks that with its eschewing of the dedicated trinity (which I would hate under other circumstances, like just solo questing). A few AOEs here and there don't cut it.

Obsidian Gryphon Can I ask for your help on the getting the glider - I am doing something wrong Finished part 1 and 2 on 3 Establishing a Foothold. Except this part looks like I am suppose to have glider wings already but I don't have them. I thought you needed to finish all 3 parts to earn the wings? You don't get the glider through completing the eps. The eps move you further into the story / area where gliding comes into play. Once that point is reached, the mastery list is available to you. To get gliding, you have to complete the basic gliding mastery. To do this, you have to fill up the mastery bar with xps earned on any Heart of Thorns map. It can be anything that give you xps; a simple mission or an event. Where is my gliding mastery? Where do I see it? Open up the Hero panel. On the left margin, look for the masteries icon (starburst like). Open it and you'll see a list. One is for Heart of Thorns. The other is for Core Tyria; as in the original maps before the HoT expansion. You cannot earn xps for Core Tyria masteries by doing events and missions in HoT maps; you'll only earn xps for HoT masteries. The glider is strictly HoT so do what you can in those maps. Once you fill up the basic glider mastery bar, you'll be awarded a point (starburst) to spend. If I didn't remember wrong, the basic glider mastery needs only one starburst. It could be two so you need to do other HoT tasks to earn the second. In any case, once you get the points, spend them to gain the basic glider mastery. You'll be rewarded with the basic glider. To glide, just press jump if you're on top of a building, a cliff or any high point. The glider will open, you navigate with the directional keys. However, basic glider mastery means your stamina runs out very fast and you cannot stay aloft for long. You have to continue to push at the mastery in order to stay up in the air longer. The wind funnels you see now and then will push you higher and higher. If your mastery is not high enough, you could very well fall to your death. Press jump again to close glider and land. The one trick is if you're very high and unable to keep the glider open, just let yourself fall and open the glider again (jump key) when you're close to the ground. * Where do I glide? What do I use to remain in the air and travel around?Any high vantage point. There are wind funnels / whirlwinds in HoT you can use. There are also ley lines, which you saw in my video I posted earlier. The bad part about this is that you need to achieve ley line mastery or you cannot glide on them. Besides gliding, there're bounding mushrooms. Again, this mode of travel have its own mastery. The same goes with lava tunnel travel. You may see this in the beginning of the video where I seemed to jump into a tunnel that then spat me high into the air. That one is like stopping up a boiling cooker to build the pressure until you get thrown out. Bouncing mushrooms.

I see that you guys talk mostly(all) about Guild Wars 2 but i did not play GW 2 yet. But i have played Guild Wars 1 a lot and i mean a lot 3 to 4000 hours give or take and had a lot of fun playing. I also met someone playing the game and she is now one of my best friends in real life. And we see each almost weekly so a small world after all we live about 60km away from each other. What i do remember about the game is the Asura and the Charr. And that i almost always started e new character in Faction because it was the fastest way to get to level 20. And that i had many heroes where i could choose from when there were no real players around. The Ritualist was my favorite character then the Necromancer and then the Elementist and then the rest.

Obsidian Gryphon so decided to create a revenant character and I can glide! Whoa! Thought I'd have to wait until reach 80 on each character before being able to glide. So now going back and getting all the gliding mastery . Ha so much fun. I made a necro after the main, the Ranger, has gone through the story and she was able to glide too (if I'm not mistaken) so this is a ability that is readily available to new chars once it is acquired on the older char. I haven't tried out the reverent though it sounds interesting. I probably will after reading about the class abilities. Let me know how the class handles.

I much preferred Guild Wars to GW2 and would play the heck out of that game if any of my friends were left. I still occasionally re-install it and play it for a bit I don't have much to add about GW2 as I stopped playing when my ranger got around level 64 or something and haven't gone back. *whispers* So, I'll just return to lurking. *waves*

So far gotten both a staff and a mace with the Revenant build. So far not impressed. Feels like warrior skills. There is axe, shield and hammer but Archer has axe. and shield and hammer for warrior. Mesmer, Necro and Archer are more fun for me. Love gliding skills though. Are you taking the slow or fast track to 80? I took a look. The class has a special stance of its own, unlike the other classes. Two legendary stances can be equipped but only one is active. Legendary Assassin Stance — Invoke the power of the legendary assassin Shiro Tagachi. Legendary Centaur Stance — Invoke the power of the legendary centaur Ventari. Legendary Demon Stance — Invoke the power of the legendary demon Mallyx the Unyielding. Legendary Dwarf Stance — Invoke the power of the legendary dwarf king Jalis Ironhammer. Legendary Dragon Stance — Invoke the power of the legendary dragon Glint. (Herald specialization only) Legendary Renegade Stance - Invoke the power of the legendary charr renegade, Kalla Scorchrazor. (Renegade specialization only) I'm admittedly not aware the revenant class was available since HoT. Guess I haven't been paying attention.

Slow/fast track to 80? I didn't know there was a fast track. Been starting at beginning for each character. It starts with the Dwarf Stance, mace then staff is added. Staff you can slam, sweep or bash. There's a hammer range skill to add later on. Staff right now is close contact. Like the change in build for the two stances, nice touch. For SP games prefer warrior then dw rogue then archery rogue then mage. MMO prefer archery then mage. Most Revenant skills seem close combat which I why I'm not to keen on it. But I'll keep going for a bit and see. There're boost level to 80 parchments / books available in the store but hardly worth buying really. If you bought the expansions, the devs always throw you one or two. I've been getting so many of them; they also drop on special events too, I think. I didn't pay attention. Anyway, I don't know what to do with them. I hardly use them at all. I prefer to work my way up than rocket to 80 after hatching. The stances sound interesting. I'll make a revenant this weekend and see how she handles.

There're boost level to 80 parchments / books available in the store Wait, really? How much? Instant level 80 ticket in the market. 2000 gems. It requires an empty shared inventory slot to use though. There're boost level to 80 parchments / books available in the store but hardly worth buying really. If you bought the expansions, the devs always throw you one or two. I've been getting so many of them; they also drop on special events too, I think. I didn't pay attention. I'll make a revenant this weekend and see how she handles. Ah I've seen those books, haven't used one. Can you sell them at the trading post? Think I'll try that.Same as you, prefer to work my way up- it's fun. Still on first location. Animation for mace is good. So far staff is kind of boring, maybe leveling up will get better. Gonna try the hammer so I can throw it. Let me know what you think of build, yes? I can't recall if I've tried to sell them. I might have but couldn't. *shrug* I've two melee classes; guardian and warrior. One of them is 80, the other is just a baby. I can't remember which is which but I'm less taken with the 80's greatsword animation. She's a Norn and I made her big but not so gigantic huge. I remembered some my guildmates making very big Norns and ended up having trouble getting the landmarks. I think the other one is a human warrior. The necro is a little Asura but not so tiny like some players made them. Cute though. Some times I couldn't make out what the heck is jumping merrily about in the distance and it turned out to be a tiny asura. I have a Sylvari mesmer. Hard to play. She's about 30 or 40. For the revenant. I'm going to go for another human. I'll see how it is this weekend. Some times I'll see guild discussions on legendary weapons. Never paid any attention to those since it's another typical grindy chase for something nice and fancy though useful, I suppose. I find it makes no difference in gameplay, to me. The weapons I made is already top craftable grade and can handle everything so far. If I'm in trouble and can't advance, I can always call on guildmates to help or other players but so far, I've been doing very well on my own.

Ok, made the revenant. Made a quick spin about. She's level 10 now. Present weapons are the mace and sword. The combination isn't bad. I forgot completely all about DR so now she's in the city; going to do some crafting.

Ok, made the revenant. Made a quick spin about. She's level 10 now. Present weapons are the mace and sword. The combination isn't bad. I forgot completely all about DR so now she's in the city; going to do some crafting. Ah your fast! Yeah I like the mace, searing fissure is a good animation. Haven't gotten the hammer yet so I'll switch from staff to sword and use mace and sword for a while. My revenant is a Nord, not that tall either. Had one two handed warrior that was also a Nord, though didn't care for the twirling animation. One Sylvari was a ranger. Currently the Necro and Mesmer are humans. Ranger with archery and axe is incredibly fun. Oh and the kirk rolls- heh love those! Haven't made any special weapons in the forge yet that are stronger than what have equipped. Is there a trick to it that I'm missing? Never seem to have powerful enough armor to use. Crafting, they have a good system. Wish DAI was more like that where crafting is done at one station and you aren't constantly moving back and forth. Understand why DAI does it but it wastes a lot of time. I played a couple of hours and took part in a couple of events. Getting hero points also kick in the xps. There are alternative ways to get xps than doing the hearts; events that sprang up, getting all the places and landmarks in the city. You can't not pop like crazy just running around in the city. I hit 10 without bothering to craft anything. I relied on the basic low equipment because the levels just come in like water. Nearly bought it once. I like the last gasp defiance; rally. Honestly, more games should implement this, especially RPGs. You're down but you're still fighting with every bit of what's left to you. * Special weapons and armor. I don't have in-depth knowledge but as far as I know, it depends on what you want. There're three top tiers; Ascended, Exotic, Legendary. I'm using Ascended armor and longbow, etc. This is easily obtainable once craft skill hit the max of 500. Ascended recipes can be bought off vendors. There is a list of different types that bestow different attributes; you'll have to look it up. It's a long list. Exotic weapons depended largely on certain mats that can be bought from vendors and crafted in the mystic forge. The rest are dropped by mobs. Exotic armor is about the same as Ascended, I think, with several extra types thrown in. Again, a very long list for this one. Legendary armor mats are gathered by taking part in raids and defeating raid bosses. Legendary weapons are crafted in the mystic forge. In looking at the mats, I think I can make exotics, given how much time I've spent in the game and how much stuff I picked up. All the high end bits I just chuck into storage without bothering very much about them. Legendary is out for me, I don't take part in raids.

Thanks! The highest crafting was somewhere in the 400 range but she's deleted . This time I'll keep her to max out. I've seen the ascended recipes for sale so once i hit 500 should be able to buy. ok. that's good. Raids? That's not the same as events then? Sometimes people will ask if I want to join in the dungeons, done that a few times, those aren't the same as raids then. So raids are out for me too. Yeah I do all the hearts and try to do the events and when characters call you over for help- that's where I got some minis. Love the high end armors people have. Ascended it is Yeah the fight for life is great. Throw at the enemy- take that! I'm not dead yet! Its a great feel when you get second wind and jump up and fight. The ori ore is going to be scarce and slow to accumulate so don't focus too much on it. I used to pop in daily and run around to the zones where they spawn. I also pick up some ore from deconstructing high grade stuff from the boss event chests. This is really why I decided to focus and upgrade just one char; the main, with the best items I can craft / find / buy. The rest will eventually get something, some time. Raids are special instances, always 10 player parties. There're different combat phases so the players must be coordinated. There will be times when they have to engage in encounters during the phase. During encounter times, a downed player is completely out and cannot be revived until the encounter phase is over. So raids are difficult and required full cooperation and good leadership. What back story did you choose for your chars? For my main, the Ranger, she's a human commoner. If I remember correctly. For the revenant, I chose to have her come from the slums.

Guess thats why I see a bunch of people standing in one area for a bit-waiting to begin a raid. Ok. I was selling off equipment, won't do that so much and try to salvage. I have one ranger crafting leatherwork, mesmer on tailoring and necro I think tailor, revenant on armor. Is there a way to create armor with a revenant and use on the ranger or is the crafting specific use for each character? I just received a bonus choice to pick ascended or legendary crafting materials, I accidentally clicked legendary - oops! heh! I have four crafts active on my Ranger. She has maxed out 8 craft skills. I can easily switch out if there's need though it'll cost some coin. I have leatherworker on the Ranger since the class uses medium armor. For the revenant, it's going to be armorer since the class uses heavy armor and also weaponsmith. High level weapons and so forth, I reply on the Ranger. She's just missing the crafting skill, scribe, that I didn't focus much on. Guild Wars 2 Crafts

A couple of the starter areas are a bit weird. I'm not sure if the floating running NPC at the Grove has been there since the beginning but she might have been. Too many bots at one quest area at Metrica Province. I don't know what happened there but by rights, once the players leave, the temporary companion bots should have self-destructed. I miss the old Lion's Arch. Some of the starter areas have changed to reflect the destruction that happened in the big event so I'm sort of a bit confused at first. Revenant is now level 31. So I figured the hammer is the range and heavy AOE weapon; that becomes secondary. Sword and axe for primary. I'm not using the staff much. Have to familiarise myself with the four stances. Centaur especially since it's a healing stance. Also became annoyed with the demon; I'll going to eat you, etc. Shut up. Switching radio over to the dwarf. The devs built a beautiful huge world, so many details. I didn't go into many houses at DR but those that can be entered, I poked around, look at the beds, paintings, etc. Also found a few tunnels, other zones, that I didn't know were there. Gliding definitely make the pace faster. I just remembered I forgot the Norn starter area. That comes after Kessex.

I love the setting and world they've created, the gameplay is fun and the classes feel quite different from one another. But every time I play I eventually get bored and a bit sad that there's so little story and memorable characters to fill these wonderfully diverse and beautiful locations. Last time I had it installed I got around to doing what I assume was the original final piece of story content before any expansions with my Norn ranger, i.e. the final battle with Zhaitan on the airship, and I just mostly felt bored instead of thrilled at this intended climax. It'll probably never happen, but I'd love to see a single player, story-heavy RPG in the setting. There's so much potential there.

I'm glad they kept the old LA. At least it's accessible via personal story. The personal story definitely lack good writing. It's not horrible but it can be stupid at times. Like the 'choices'. I wish I could ask; if I go with A, does that mean you will not be saving ABC? Do you really need me? You guys were defending Tyria long before this char shows up, don't act like things are going to fall apart now if the choice is not to join your group. There're no bad consequences one way or another. So I chose to join the secret society for this toon. The first secrety mission dialogue had me Please, the char is not that stupid. Anyone who can survive the slums and rise above can't be be an idiot. Why're you writing that she is? .. oh boy. I love the setting and world they've created, the gameplay is fun and the classes feel quite different from one another. The story isn't that good, definitely. Still, I enjoyed the game world. I don't have a fixed criteria for the classes like some players do; they like / want / expect certain aspects of skills of the classes they play. If the combat and animation is to my liking, I'm not fussy how the class should be.

The personal story definitely lack good writing. It's not horrible but it can be stupid at times. Even if I try to ignore my experiences with TOR/BioWare, it's quite bland and forgettable. It got good at ONE point so far: the priory trainer person actually had a character. Then she dies. It's back to the status quo soon enough. Haven't finished the "main" story yet but I expect more of the same.
