The internet is an accurate representation of society (if anything, it's more accurate than casual interactions with strangers since people can show their true power level without worrying about social norms). I'm sorry you had to find out this way, but at least you can take solace in the fact that the person responsible for the brony cum jar project probably doesn't work at the same place as you.

The internet may actually be a more true representation of society than what you see in real life as because people feel they are anonymous they say and do things that they would not do in real life.

I'm sorry you had to find out this way, but at least you can take solace in the fact that the person responsible for the brony cum jar project probably doesn't work at the same place as you. stop talking about recon's primary habit, we all know the main reason he comes to this site is for those special teasers frosted gives him fairly regularly in the politics thread :lmfao: :lmfao: What if the INTERNET is an accurate representation of society? That is, what if there truly are legions of morons walking the streets?!? dont worry you can go back to believing the best in the world around you, besides many of those "stupid people" on the street are really quite nice natured and generally easy to talk to thee just easy to confuse, quick to anger when confused and of course prone to mob action when angry, oh and there easily lead especially if you sprinkle in a liberal helping of " free shit, stick it to the man, vive la revolution and my personal favourite, only care about the 1%" but once you understand that not all folks were ready to get on the long bus and were forced to by circumstanced beyond their control so they revert to type in the most debased ways possible you can at least give them a smile and a nod and pass along pleasantries in a fitting manner... or you can troll them hardcore like i do (in my wheelchair i randomly tilt my head sideways start start rocking animatedly and drive straight at them causing the sour faced shits to react in an alarmed manner)

I've been working harder than most people since I was fifteen, I'm a Chef. No bitch-ass cubicle or hour-long paid lunch breaks here. Just sweating, yelling, swearing, cutting/burning my arms and hands. Shucking oysters, cleaning live Lobsters, gutting squid, breaking down beef loin/strip loin/flank/skirt, picking herbs, grabbing pasta out of boiling water, plunging my hands into ice water, squeezing lemon/lime juice into my half-healed burns and cuts, coming in on my day off, going to dumb meetings/tastings all to have some naive, narcissistic millennilal fuckhead pretend he/she has an allergy they don't have just to "BE CUTE"...

Yes. It shows everywhere.
My latest example: We're playing a strategy game. I have T-64s supported by mechanized infantry with BMP-2s and ample AA coverage advancing down an MSR. Suddenly I find out that my teammates decided to fuck everything, deployed all the action on the opposite flank (despite me advancing deep into hostile territory as per the standart Eastern bloc armored assault doctrine) and now my armor is out of ammo, I have no way to resupply because the bridge supposed to be held by one of my allies is controlled by the enemy and they have reinforcements pouring in my rear. Weak units, but enough to deny supply along the MSR, and I have no units available to escort the supply trucks. What's better, the second bridge behind our lines is completely neglected as well, leaving the enemy a clear path to my battalion supply dumps.
And yeah, that's just the latest. I try to ignore stupidity because I find it impossible to live without a little faith in humanity.
The current political situation here is one such case. How could a lying, hypocritical asshole, actually prosecuted in another country (I SHIT YOU NOT) could win the elections is an example in retardation. G-fucking-G.

It's always been this way...nothing really changes, only the names, faces and dates. It's just that modern tech allows dubious characters to instantly invade the previously safe and controlled environments of our personal sanctuary spaces i.e. homes (which they never previously had access to). There's just the same amount of rogues, fools and scoundrels as there's always been. The only difference is that modern technology and instant communication permeates all areas of our lives. This easy, immediate communication greatly amplifies their voice and can exaggerate their numbers, it just seems worse than it actually is.
Anyway on a positive note by avoiding the fate of the moron herd and not developing these negative characteristics it provides me with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

While there may be something to the "anonymity lets people show their true selves" thing, it's hard to tell with all the trolling that seems to go on these days. And I think there's another effect, which is that if a discussion comes to be dominated by a small group of people basically making the same point over and over again in a mean-spirited and obnoxious way, and if they just respond with more snark if anybody argues with them, eventually the people who disagree with them (or just want them to stop being assholes) will give up trying and cede the "floor" to them.
The main reason I never post in the comments for my local newspaper is that it's always the same few people commenting with the same viewpoint, and it's set up so that I'd either have to create a new social media account or use my Facebook account (which has my RL name, workplace, etc.) to participate. It's not worth it when I know I'll just get inane rants and insults in response.

Remember when we were kids how you'd sometimes quiz each other on what super power you would want? Things like the ability to fly, the ability to turn invisible, be super strong, stuff like that. Remember how one of those was something like "the ability to read other people's minds"?
Yeah, welcome to the Internet. That last one came true and is a doozy.

Is the net an accurate representation of people? Yes and no, while you can see aspects of people that they keep under wraps in public, you also have to take into account that people can exaggerate or ham up things for effect. It's sort of like how in a really heated argument certain things can come out (like what one might think of another) that have an element of truth to it, but it isn't the full picture.
Basically, what i'm saying is that there's a fair bit of nuance to these things.
