Read the OP, so I wanna be upfront: don't do backseat driving. It doesn't make you look good.

My main concern for Anthem financially is whether it will be able to scratch the Destiny itch.
Destiny fans want endgame rewards they feel are worth grinding for and endgame activities that make it challenging yet fun. As Bungie has discovered, that can be a difficult balance to maintain.

BioWare couldn't manage that with SWTOR, not that endgame stuff as ever bothered me because that's not why I play. If they can't get it right with SWTOR after 5 or 6 years of (still) trying the pessimist in me can't see them doing any better with Anthem. I'd like to be proved wrong but....

SWTOR's a weird example though considering their most sucessful expansions (KOTFE and KOTET) by a large margin , didn't release a single OP between them. Which suggests that's not what the SWTOR audience actually wants. The Destiny crowd may want more end game.

SWTOR is a mess.

I thought Galactic Command was a good idea that was implement badly, specially since most of their customers have probably not set foot in an OP so it's a bit weird to put your whole gearing system behind it. I think it's finally in a good place now. I actually really enjoyed KotFE/KotET mainly cus I though the guy who voiced Valkorian was excellant and thought the story really suilted my SW. I can see why some might not like it but was really annoyed when certain forum users started campaigning to have Charles Boyd (lead writer) fired cus they didn't like it, mainly cus (a) it sucks to do that and ( b ) they went after him after a couple of posts he did on the forum explaining his writing and decisions which was really interesting but since they did it he hasn't been back since on the forum. I'm looking forward to where the next expansion is going (and relieved they confirmed a 6.0 was in the works on the forum), cus I think they are going back to Empire vs Republic again, and I have some Republic scum to kill

The story fitted my SW quite well too. I enjoyed the story but some of the gameplay I could have done without. I even had a rather insane fanfic idea while playing through the start of KotFE. I still can't get my mind around how popular it is on FFN.... As for 6.0 yeah I could see the Eternal Alliance coming to an end as people have been, you guessed it bitching about almost from the start. We'll have to see what we get. More bitching is almost granted

Mind you it's not shred on the bitching over changing Theron's hairstyle. That was terrifying. The Theron fans seemed more annoyed about that then tha fact he'd betrayed them . Neither mess with fangirls/fanbois.

And in other news, after yesterday's successful quarterly Earnings Call, EA hits its best stock price ever. Gamers do keep buying those games and live services in significant numbers. Pretty much all growth companies are constantly reaching their "best stock price ever." That's what growth means. The question is how fast is it growing, and are investors hitting their target rates of return (which they probably are, EA is doing well).

One need look no farther than Monster Hunter World's recent success to know Destiny 2 is easily defeated by a quality product. I'd go so far as to call the game irrelevant, now. The sequel just took too many steps back and people wnat to play a game that's good when they open the box, not one they need to wait a year and buy several expansions for it to finally be worthwhile.

Does that include that crazy quarter after the micro-transaction debacle? If so... then if I were in a non-management role, I'd still be polishing my resume, but without as much urgency. Also, you have to wonder in a world where Microsoft was once the EVIL empire before EA stole the crown, can it become the hero and save BioWare?

Does that include that crazy quarter after the micro-transaction debacle? It does, EA recovered the $3 Billion stock value loss within one quarter and grew further. It gets wild when companies: EA, BioWare, Bungie, CDPR, are described as if they were 'living entities', having wishes, moralities and being good or evil, when of course they are not.

Nor is 'Wall Street'. Superficial or not, gamers, as a whole, hate being asked to pay more for something when they've already put down $60. Wall Street, as a whole, sees this and goes, "Oh, they're found a new income stream? Fuck, guess I'mma gonna buy it." It's not a hard concept. You've gotta remember Occam's Razor in situations like this. The simplest explanation is usually the most correct one.

I wonder how close Microsoft is acquiring EA? (Or Valve? Highly doubt it. Valve doesn't have to make HL3...) (Or any other big publisher?) If that's even a story...

I actually think that EA is too big for them to be completely absorbed by MS. I dunno though.
They'll prolly absorb a smaller studio and then rip the team apart, hoping that they can each run their own studio.
*shrug*

I have little love for EA, but less competition is never better for the consumer. As for whether that's likely? Who knows. I heard a speculation that perhaps Microsoft will try buying specific EA properties, like Bioware, or perhaps specific franchises. Very unlikely, usually companies don't sell off their dev teams or studios, or IPs unless it's bankruptcy.
