I had yet to complete a Platinum solo on Firebase Vertigo. Wanting to get it over with as quickly as possible, I readied up what is arguably the best solo kit in the game, the Angara Avenger specced for Sticky Grenades and weapon damage with the Kishock Siphon and Shorty Siphon. I was looking forward to an easy run with Devices and Retrieval, but got instead a really tough mission featuring two Boss objectives and a successful Wave 4 Hack!
Objectives: Boss / Hack / Boss
Gameplay notes and build: goo.gl/3jVDgQ
I tried this solo first with my melee Avenger build, but I was being way too aggressive and getting downed far too often. So, I switched to a hybrid Sticky Grenade and Kishock build. Avenger Strike was just used to reposition myself on the map, as melee was considerably weaker.
I don’t know if this is a known bug or just a visual glitch, but there were times when I would shoot with the Kishock while cloaked and remain cloaked. Has anyone else ever seen that before?
Objectives
Platinum Outlaws can be very unforgiving. There are so many enemy units which can wreck your day in a second. Hydras and Blaze Hydras with their curving guided missiles, Anointed with their Soned XXX, Sharpshooters with their 100% accurate Vipers, multiple Observers, Berserkers triplets and their flak cannons, Saboteurs and their powerful Ushiors and Energy Drain, and those blasted, biting Adhis. I consider Outlaws the hardest faction on Platinum, with Remnant second and Kett the easiest.
I get downed twice during the Wave 2 Boss objective. Those blasted Hydras and their rockets!
Wave 4 Hack. Just watch it and see how I got it done. Lots of luck and a lot of running in and out of the circle as quickly as I could. Obviously, this would have been impossible with a non-stealth grid character.
When Boss appeared again for Wave 6, I took stock of my consumables. I had gotten downed again during the Hack and once on Wave 3, leaving me with just one Revive Pack, three First Aid Kits, and four Cobras. The first target was easy enough, but I made the mistake of Avenger Striking the Berserker thinking I had Disrupting Strike specced. Bad mistake as a Hydra made quick work of me and turning the rest of the match into One Life to Live. At that point, I was taking zero chances (quit playing the hero, as the Operator would say) and whipped out Captain Cobra to deal with the Blaze Hydra. Of course, Wave 6 Boss against Outlaws means there was another Hydra and Blaze Hydra (and an Ascendant) to clean up. If I didn’t have a shot, I would just cloak and reposition until the situation felt right to strike.
For Wave 7 Extraction, I wasn’t going to push my luck, and I didn’t fire a single shot at an enemy. It was all about spamming Stealth Grid and hiding until the shuttle arrived.
Please enjoy!
