Whether it's a commercial success or not, is critically acclaimed or not, has no bearing on what I think of the game. Jade Empire wasn't a commercial success, yet it's one of my favourite BioWare games ever. Dragon Age 2 was (initially) critically acclaimed, hailed as the RPG of the decade by some reviewers, and we all know how that turned out. However, I do believe Anthem may -and I cannot stress this word enough- be indicative of the road BioWare intends to tread from now on when developing games. Some have even argued this will be a make-or-break proposition for the studio. As such, it's probably worth keeping an eye on it even if I have seen very little so far to encourage me to actually play it.

While I agree on the negative -the only hypothetical question that is stupid is the one not asked. If successful though it is a step away from what they are were known for IE: EA Destiny vs KOTOR.

My opinion of them will remain positive. Their future will be brighter if Anthem succeeds. If BioWare fails EA will just sit on their IPs anyway. Do nothing with them. If you want more games then you better hope Anthem does really well!

Even if it is a success, Anthem will have to be more than just another destiny type game for me to even pretend to care about it. I will still remain some what skeptical of Bioware until they release something that I really want to play such as another Dragon Age,Mass Effect or a new IP.

We need to see something substantial before wasting our time with stupid hypothetical questions... In fairness, this is BSN, we need to spin our wheels discussing something... - Gap after ME: (11/07) - 1 year

The gap between games has lengthened of late... There is also a difference between the last two games and the ones before them that require more content to be created to fill the open world type concept, for there were more time wasters added to pad out the experience in the ways of quests, crafting, exploration, area design, and other things I probably would never think of.

This seems a somewhat odd question. You're essentially asking if my opinion of BioWare would change if other people liked Anthem a lot?
No, it wouldn't change at all. If Anthem impresses me, my opinion of BioWare will change for the better.

No change because I don't count MEA as a true Bioware game (sorry Montreal) and Edmonton hasn't let me down yet.
If Anthem is very successful, what WILL change is my prediction of the future of Bioware as a company. The odds of EA shutting Bioware down and DA4 never being made will decrease significantly and that is a VERY good thing in my book.
Please don't take offense, but people who would hate Bioware for making a game the majority loves just because they happen not to like it, are spiteful grinches...

I'll admit though, if BioWare came out and said one day "Welp, singleplayer games are over for us. We've embraced multiplayer 100%" I'd be pretty sore and that part of me that loves their stuff would die a slow painful death. I don't really expect such a thing to happen though.

The gap between games has lengthened of late... You forgot SWTOR (12/11). It is crazy how fast they were pumping out quality games for a while there (I know someone is going to contest the quality aspect of that). Especially considering it was only Edmonton on ME and DA for the most part.

We've embraced multiplayer 100%" I'd be pretty sore and that part of me that loves their stuff would die a slow painful death. I don't really expect such a thing to happen though. Sure, I'd be gutted too. But if they were really successful at it and generated a new fanbase who loves them again then I can't hate them for it. If indeed they ditched singleplayer games because they wanted to do something different after all this time. If EA won't let them make any other games anymore I'd be mad, but at EA and not Bioware. For me, what would make me "resent" Bioware is bad writing. Like, destroying Dragon Age's lore and the characters I love. Completely ruining everything they've so carefully crafted before because they stopped caring. I don't mind them doing something different with Anthem as long as they give their old franchises a great ending. Mass Effect was done for me after ME3 and what Montreal did with the franchise I'll simply choose to ignore as if that game never happened. It's OK. Now my only real concern in Dragon Age. So as long as they don't mess DA4 up, it's all good. If it turns out to be their last SP game, I'll mourn Bioware but I'll wish them all the best for the future. They have no obligation to keep doing the same thing for me or anyone. Their obligation to the fans ends when Dragon Age ends. That's how I see it anyway

This question seems really dumb. If Anthem is wildly succesful, why would your opinion of Bioware be negative? Read the Skepticism thread for a load of reasons, none of which I find compelling, fwiw. Some examples of what people fear if Anthem is any kind of success: Anthem is not SP and Bioware will never make another SP game when there is more money to be had in coop. Loot boxes and MTX forever, even in DA SP. They’ll never make another Baldurs Gate or similar throwback game. They’ll never go back to making DA be more like DAO gameplay. They’ll never make a good ME game.

They all assume that Bioware will be successful with Anthem, even though they have no idea what Anthem is. I am getting bored with all this hypothetical BS. We can't hype something that we haven't seen. Bring on the game, Bio !!

The gap between games has lengthened of late... It's actually worse than your statistics suggest. The MET and DA trilogy were all developed by Bioware Edmonton, however Andromeda was outsourced to Montreal. So the gap between games for Edmonton has blown out the last few years. Anthem's really eating up resources it seems

I've no interest in Anthem so my opinion rating of Bioware rests with Andromeda which is a 5/10. It's unlikely to change with Anthem's performance; pass / fail. The real test; for my end, is DA4.

If Anthem is well received, no matter what type of a game it is, then it'll put my mind at rest about the company's future. If it succeeds it gives them the breathing space they need to then hopefully make a classic DA or ME game in their own inimitable style. I know some ppl are scared of Anthem being un-biowarey, but that doesn't bother me too much. I don't begrudge a studio for wanting to make different type of game, they can't be shackled to one style all the time. If they then abandon the DA/ME model entirely for the Anthem/Destiny model however, then I'll be heartbroken. And soooo pissed.

I’m not bothered with Anthem as I don’t mind a dev changing directions on what they do, Bioware has done it before when mass effect and dragon age became a thing, you have those like me who’ve said they lost their true RPG roots a long time ago. That said I still liked what mass effect and dragon age were (action games but with some RPG elements) and I may like what anthem is, especially if it is this “destiny clone” but actually delivers in what destiny failed to do.
As for my opinion on Bioware: I don’t know, not the worst devs out there but they also aren’t the same guys i used to brag about, other developers have caught up to what Bioware does but better that I just don’t see them as the same. I know there are people who say Bioware does characters or choice based decisions but they aren’t the only ones doing it now. You have CD Red, telltales, quantic dreams, Bethesda, etc etc. anthem has to be something unique for me to really consider Bioware one of the top devs as lately I’ve only viewed them bottom tier of the AAA industry that have hit or miss games. I don’t think they can really get much worse than they did with Andromeda either, I think they can only go up from there.

Anthem isn't high on my list of games I'm likely to play so whether it's good, well received or a car crash isn't going to change my opinion on Bioware.
I think it's a good thing for a Dev to branch out, Bioware might bring something new to the online-multiplayer-action-RP genre. Hope it's a good game, hope it's successful for Bioware, but other people's opinion on a game won't influence my opinion on a dev.
If I played it and hated it, that wouldn't change my opinion either. I'd see it as a game I didn't like. That's it.

No change based on Anthem's success, specifically. It will depend on how EA/BioWare reacts to the critical response that will inform my future opinion of BioWare as a developer.
