I enjoy the romances but not sure how many rpgs have romances other than those crafted Bioware. Trying to recall if I have played a game with romanace by another company.
The Witcher series by CD Projekt Obsidian did romances in their BioWare sequels, Alpha Protocols and Deadfire. There is a few FF games with romance (part of the story, so static). Life is Strange from DONTNOD has 2 romance-able NPCs. Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 (in 1 you could just romance your co-source hunter) Any dating sims. Yeah - forgot the Witcher. I just started deadfire but the only comparable romancer is the Witcher I think. Is Dating Sims an RPG? Never played it or any SIMS game before.

I've largely fallen out of caring much about romances to be honest as they always feel like the same formula of "Flirt a few times, choose correct dialogue, get sex scene, get achievement for banging somebody, maybe have 1 or 2 lines of dialogue reference said banging later".
They're fine enough to get, but not at all a deal breaker or even going to give pause for me if they're not there.

Not the lack of romances but the lack of companions in a Bioware game is a dealbreaker for me.

Dating sims are a genre/sub-genre, some fall into the (J)RPG category. I don't play them, so I can't suggest one to you. I forgot Trail of Cool Steel series though, JRPG and preset character, but you get some romance development in 1 that you can follow up in the second game with a few options to pick from (more in 2 than 1). I haven't played them yet, but some people recommended the games to me.

I'm absolutely thrilled by the "no romances in Anthem" thing. That took me from "will definitely buy" to "immediate preorder".

Not the lack of romances but the lack of companions in a Bioware game is a dealbreaker for me. I’m just hoping that there’s a fair amount of interesting NPC’s we can interact with. I don’t mind having to go solo (I’m probably going to lone wolf the bulk of the game), but I don’t want my character to be a damn mute like Destiny.

People who are that upset about no romances in this game should just go play dating sims. I was thinking they should try for a real life one instead of pixel love.

I am highly dissapointed that there is none, no companion is one thing because as you can still do romance without companion following you (like witcher 3), but in the end I was at least excepting that they would put ways of forging romantic relationship somewhere in anthem SWTOR is an online game and it has tons of romances, no need for huge animated sex scenes, just written romance is completely enough. That said, I am still excited for Anthem, I don't play Bioware games only for romance, with the exception of dragon age 2 I love ALL of what they did so I keep an optimistic view on it.

One of the things that was annoying (for me at lest) in ME and DA were the romances. But lack of romance able characters in Anthem is not the reason why I don't like this game.

I want Anthem to be good, but I think lack of romances is the least of their problems... even though I love how Bioware has always included romances.

But lack of romance able characters in Anthem is not the reason why I don't like this game. I don't really mind them but I do think a certain segment of the fanbase has gotten ridiculous with their demands regarding romance content...and how everything needs to be gated to their specific preferences. That's the part I find annoying...to the point I no longer care if Bioware includes them.

This poll lacks an option for people who are interested because it has no romance. Assuming they exist. Also, it needs an undecided option.
Was yes, now no Was yes, still yes Was no, now yes Was no, still no Still undecided
Otherwise the poll will give bad/incomplete data.
I'm in the undecided camp, myself.

I don't like to give an "undecided" option because it doesn't help to qualify the effect of the variable. Undecided doesn't matter when the question is "is no romance a deal breaker?". I was only looking for the effect that the news of "no romance" had, not total number of people interested in the game. Romance is polarizing in the community, thus this poll. There's no option for those interested BECAUSE there's no romance because the issue is that the majority of prior recent Bioware games have had romance options and romanceable NPC's are, according to the community" a Hallmark of Bioware games. That's why the question is phrased the way it is. Sure, there might be people who are interested because there's no romance, but the question stems from the LACK of those romance options being fundamentally different from current successful Bioware games.

I'm not too fussed about romances in themselves, but to me it goes with other things to offer a worrying signal about where the games focus is.

Sure, there might be people who are interested because there's no romance, but the question stems from the LACK of those romance options being fundamentally different from current successful Bioware games. Undecided helps quantify the people who have not made up their mind on this issue, i.e., the announcement has not swayed them one way or the other. That's actually quite important. Let's take a hypothetical population:
Y/N 20%
Y/Y 10%
N/Y 1%
N/N 20%
U 49%
Given only 3 choices, let's say the N/Y people and the undecideds don't vote.
Y/N 20%
Y/Y 10 %
N/N 20%
Abstain: 50%
Because half of the people don't answer the outcome looks like this: Y/N 40% of respondents
Y/Y 20% of respondents
N/N 40% of respondents
Which can then be twisted into "in a recent survey, 80% of players have decided not to buy Anthem! Because romances!" when in actuality half of the consumers aren't represented at all. If the question is skewed, it makes reporting the results fraught with error.
Of course, it is your poll and you can set it up however you like.
EDIT: Bad math corrected. EDIT 2: No, srsly, I haz maths

I'm trying to figure out at what point romances became a big thing in Bioware games. Sure it was a part of BG2 but nobody paid that much attention to it, it was just an unexpected piece of content in a content rich game. I'm pretty sure people weren't too fussed about it in KOTOR, so ... Origins? ME?

If there were romances, they would struggle to provide multiple gated orientation relationships (upsetting many) Or go player-centric (upsetting many) Which is compounded by the lack of combat companions reducing romance prospects and choice even further (upsetting many) Add to that any of the above would trigger fights with the 'BioWare are SJWs ruining my game' brigade (upsetting many) BioWare may have just gone, sod that, save it for Dragon Age 4...

In this case they're going to get flooded on twitter with the "Why can't I tap (romance) that" instead. There is no winning this. Personally I think they should stick to the "no romances" part. It's easier that way.

One tiny omission: Jack in ME2-3
Valen Shadowbreath was my first "requited" pixel crush, but Alistair was the first video game character I had a pathologic attachment to. Not the last, though.
