So far as skills go I have no idea what I'm picking, well sort of. Kass is only level 6 so it's still early days. As for the bandit leader I didn't use Spartan Kick though I do have it as a skill as the finisher animation played Kass kicked him off her sword and he went over the cliff edge. Rush Assassination is my most used Skill/Ability by the time your spear is level 3 and RA has been levelled to level 3 it means from cover you can take down at least (maybe 4) enemies in a chained attack. By level 30 and with one of the weapons or armour or an engraving I think at the moment I can take down at least 5 maybe 6 in one chained attack. Sorry can't be specific haven't played enough lately and don't have the game open. Its really useful for small camps and forts for minimising combat and for speeding up completion of those objectives, it can also be hugely useful even in some of the big forts because you literally teleport long distances to make your kills from hiding but most usefully your first kill. So you can literally be on the ground and one in Line of Sight you can kill people up on the walls or jump across an open area to make a kill. Thanks, That's something I'll have to try out

Bit of a slow day today, so puttered around for a bit... I'm still amazed at the staggering variety of NPC animations in this game. It's truly an achievement on Ubisoft's part. I realize they're iterating on previous game(s), but their animation team must be enormous. Take the time to walk in this game and soak in all the little details, especially in the cities and villages. I just spent a bit watching a dad teaching his kids how to fight with spears, fishermen fishing (and catching them/putting them away), merchants filling bags of grain on scales until they were balanced, and on, and on... Things you might never catch if you're just running through the game. Too true Hrungr I really like that about the game, the just aimlessly (or not) wandering and watching the lie aspects of the game as well as yes all the amazing animations. It's one of the things I was talking to my son (17) about last night as to what I love about games when trying to explain why I enjoyed Odyssey so much compared to my experiences with TD2 ATM. TD2 is a visually good looking game but the NPC life side of things is nowhere near Odyssey or Origins levels. The remastered AC3 has supposedly added more "life" to the cities, I am looking forward to seeing that. On a slight side note, I am not a fan of Kass being pee'd on whilst in stealth in a bush. That's an instant assassination even for a civilian!!!!! Great pic's as always Hrungr.

Getting it to level 3 unlocks level 3 on most abilities allowing them to do more damage etc.... Obsidian Gryphon is that correct?

I do particularly feel bad assassinating the guards peeing in forts but hey a Misthios gotta do what, a Misthios gotta do. I assume you've seen the random guy/civilians releieving themselves in the towns and cities?

I once did a rush assassination on a bandit right as they started to do a vomit animation so they barfed right as I had the spear go through their chest. Give them credit, it mixed both animations flawlessly.

dazk , if you’re currently leaning more Assassin than Hunter, consider the +1 Rush Assassination Target perk from the sword in LotFB. The difference between killing 4 dudes or 5 is substantial. Leaders usually travel with 4 guards. Many camps have 5 enemies in residence. Being able to wipe out a Leader and his entire entourage, or an entire camp, in one RA chain is very useful. It’s also crazily efficient, too. One adrenaline segment for a combat free massacre. As Obsidian Gryphon discussed above, you’ll still land a hefty bounty immediately. I usually go from zero to almost 4 when killing a Leader with RA. Hunters, meanwhile, almost have to try to incur a bounty. You’ve already experienced the same, I’m sure, but it’s always interesting to see my experience either confirmed or contradicted by others’ experiences with AC. Results seem to vary in these hugecganes. One of the best things about my All-Rounder build is that I can switch play styles on the fly. It’s a good enough Hunter that I can drop most foes in one or two shots. If I’ve taken damage, I lose 30% damage, and it’s slightly less impressive, but still serviceable. It’s helpful for those moments when a merc starts raging, or a lynx or boar attacks. If Hero Strike doesn’t end it and I’ve been hurt, I just tumble back a bit and start headshotting* fools. (*An abomination of a word that only gamers will accept without blinking.) Good bow damage is also great if you’re trying to recruit a target. A couple of Devastating Shots to the face with blunted arrows resolves things quickly. I was really enjoying staff-fighting, but daggers are just beastly. They’re so damn fast. They allow you to spring and cover ground very quickly. The heavy attack is great for breaking a foe’s guard. (I actually ditched Shield Breaker from my power wheel because of FotB and this swift overpower.) If I’m playing a Hunter, I just shoot the face peaking over the shield. If I’m melee-first, I now just go heavy attack with daggers or a staff, for speed and reach, respectively. If I were a Warrior, the new Sword of Kings perk would definitely be in play. It reduces the charge time of melee heavy attacks by 50%.

Me neither, but I did assassinate a transgender scion for taking a piss standing up. i.imgur.com/VNy0OKI.jpg Which reminds me is there any way to respc if you need to? Yes, on the abilities tab, hold down R, it shows you in the bottom right hand corner how much it costs. Something I didn't realise in my first playthrough, those Ostraka's you find are no good until you read them and go to the location in the clue and activate them. Also it's better to solve them as you find them or you won't remember which island they refer to.

I have an engraving that gives me an extra one and yeah its been heaps useful but using the sword (second slot) does it stack?

dazk, the bonus of your second weapon always stacks, so you can definitely go that route. As soon as posted last night, I started doubting my memory. I need to log in and check whether it’s the LotFB sword or something else that grants the extra chained enemy. I’m logging in now, so I’ll have details momentarily. 😆 Okay, there are a number of pretty good Assassin swords. Pride of the Lion from LotFB gives “RA chains to +1 enemies”. Xiphos of Peleus gives “+20% Damage with RA”. If you’re optimizing RA, it’s hard to beat those. Xiphos of Dionysos gives “+20% Damage with Hero Strike”, which is solid. Right now, I’m using two daggers for my All-Purpose Assassin. I have Arachne’s Stinger engraved with “+1 RA chain” and an epic dagger, Okaleia’s Lotus Dagger, that compliments it (+18% Assassin/+30% Daggers/+40% Poison/+10% All). I kind of wanted to go with staves, but my dagger gear was too great to ignore. Plus, daggers hit fast, which is great for a crit-build. It took a few hours into the NG+ to start getting the ridiculously good gear, but it happened naturally as I just played the story. My Mastery Levels are pretty focused: Hunter Damage +20% Crit Chance +3.6% (More will go here, but it’s a slow build-up, so I decided to invest elsewhere for a while) Headshot Damage +25% Warrior Damage +18% Armor Penetration +4.8% (My current focus/experiment, to see if it’s good.) Damage Dealt Restored as Health +2.1% (Probably unneeded, but I’ll return to it eventually) Assassin Damage +18% CRIT Chance while Full Health +9% (I’ll eventually add more, but it's a slow grind for this one, too.) Damage vs Elites and Bosses +12% I’m mostly happy with the perks I have. I need a lot more points to fully develop them. Those CRIT perks feel like they offer diminishing returns, in a way. It’s frustrating to improve CRIT Chance by +0.4% per point while I can improve Armor Penetration by 1.2% per point. The relative costs are probably balanced, for the most part; but that slow burn definitely shapes my choices. There are absolutely diminishing returns on the +Assassin/Warrior/Hunter perks. That’s why I only maxed Hunter, while leaving Assassin and Warrior at 15/20. I’m curious to see whether Armor Penetration makes an impact. It seems like it could be important, but it might be a while before my simple observation tells me anything. My wife and MiL will be out, today, so I should get some quality gaming time (and peace). I’m also watching the NCAA tournament, so that will cut into it. My Tar Heels play at 2:40pm EST. 😬

Kass did the mission where you have to get the cyclops eye without being spotted... and Kass got spotted. I am getting better at sneaking about. Got back to Markos and Kass had no sympathy for him even as he complained about the cyclops' thugs, there were three had I to clear out of the vineyard. Then it was a trip to Odysseus's Palace where Kass was much more successful She lured three of the bandits into the bushes to have her way with them. She assassinated them, get your minds out the gutter! Kass then got spotted but this worked out well as after she'd ran and hid the guy who had Penelope's shroud just happened to wonder into where Kass was hiding, one quick assassination later Kass had what she came for. She then discovered how much fun it is to assassinate people with her bow. That left one bandit all on his lonesome who had no idea his eight buddies had been killed. So Kass sneaked up on him so he wouldn't feel bad

Assassination has been dumbed down a bit in the last few games I think, I put it down to the helmets the enemies wear as its pretty easy to sneak up on anyone unless you are directly in front of them!!!! I always find it amazing I take down 20+ guards and the last one or two, sometimes commanders still just wander round like normal!!!!

😬 Because of my moderate melee abilities in particular most of my armour buffs include ignoring damage, melee resistance, sword damage or adrenaline per hit. I am using The Obsidian sword which gives me assassin boost, damage with swords and poison damage, in the second slot I have Pride of the Lion which gives Assassin boost, Adrenaline boost and is engraved with 20% Damage against Elites and Bosses. My bow gives Assassin and Warrior boost plus poison and the engraving is -25% on all Cooldowns. Other engravings are +20% Fury of The Bloodline, +1 to attack to Rush Assassinate and various ignore damage and adrenaline on assassination on my armour pieces +15% elemental resistance.

Alas, I had to turn off Odyssey when my headphones ran out of juice. My wife is sleeping, so no more gaming tonight.
After UNC thrashed Washington (and Duke nearly lost), I finally got around to playing Odyssey. I finished up the “Return to Athens” segment and the Naxos/Paros storyline. I just left Thera, and docked in eastern Chios. I’ll work on Chios and Lesbos tomorrow, and then head for Lemnos and Thassos. I still have a ton of game left, but I feel like I’m finally getting my teeth into the map for this PT. I’ve not yet visited much of the Peloponnese, so I’ll likely clear up much of those regions before advancing the family story by visiting Lakonia.
I’m still enjoying the Do-It-All CRIT Build. It seems like the points I’m dropping into Armor Penetration might be helping vs elites, but I need a bigger sample size. I’m curious to see how the fight against Medusa goes. I usually use a Hunter build to whoop her. She’s much trickier in melee, in my opinion. This game really is better with a maxed character and no need to ride the gear carousel. Level-gating, leveled gear and RNG are a terrible addition to AC. Oh, well.
Continuing with my random stream of thoughts, I was thinking of the next game in Rome. (We all know that’s 99% likely to be true, no?) I had hoped that Odyssey would be the last game to feature the stupid eagle mechanic. I suspect, though, that it will return for one last time in Rome. If Ikaros was a spy/gift from Pythagoras, does that mean that Senu was the same from Alexios/Kassandra? Meh. Not sure I care, much, since it’s still a dumb feature. It will be good to see a game once more focused upon the Assassin vs Templar/Order core storyline. Another chance to play as a Templar would be great, especially in an RPG framework; but I’m not holding my breath on that one.
Despite my random grumblings, I’m still enjoying this game after an insane number of hours. I’ll almost definitely be ready for a break after this PT, but who knows? I’ll be right back into it when Fate of Atlantis releases. Nothing else new is catching my attention. My three big series for years were Mass Effect, Uncharted and AC. Two have seemingly concluded, leaving the pickin’s pretty slim.

So more AC Odyssey yesterday, (just not enough hours in the day) only got a little bit done but pushed the 3rd episode of the DLC which involved sinking ships, killing a cultist and his friends and getting side-tracked killing more mercenaries!!!!! Darius attitude in confusing me slightly this episode, can't wait to see how it ends up. Damn Uplay opening the game borderless robbed me of some screenshots again yesterday!!!!! Pic's This was my preferred option Darius was not amused about my choice, not sure why they stole his grandson Scenery

I'd still be happy if it reverted to the old pulse version. I am looking forward to it being in Rome if it is!!!! what will the eagle be called if there is one? "Novem" or "Nonus"

Been doing the romances with the current playthrough, and yeah it is clear that for most of these characters they were made with only the romance path in mind. Some of them are kind of sweet though, I just hate how you have to have sex with them.

Maybe something super clever like “Aquila”? I’m more than ready for a return to Eagle Senses instead of actual eagles that gaze through 99m of stone. It’s not the gameplay mechanic that bothers me. It’s fine as a UAV in a modern setting. It’s how completely out of place and unexplained it is in AC that bothers me. I realize it’s just an Ubi mechanic transplanted from Far Cry and GR, but they could’ve at least tried to explain it in-game during one of last two games. The games were certainly long enough to squeeze it in somewhere.
Rome is a great setting, no doubt. They’ve never failed to make any setting interesting; though they could’ve done much, much better with the French Revolution. I’m ready for an Asian setting, and/or a less ancient setting. There are so many fascinating stories to be told outside of the regions well known in the west. I feel like they’ve neglected the rest of the world on account of marketing. I’m confident that a well made AC game will sell even if it’s set in a time and place alien to western gamers. Have Ashraf Ismail at the reins and consumer fears will be minimized.
