does anyone else prefer the "open world" style like dragon age inquisition more then the skyrim and

For DAI....It could have been better. A lot better. But there is no doubt that, aesthetically, it was a big bump from previous games. I also appreciated the aspect of adventure that seemed lacking in some games. But unfortunately, the quests within them and the lack of reaction to your actions leaves makes your experience nothing but a set of going through massive pretty scenery (give or take the few interesting tid bits dotted on the landscape).

If your not really really into lore or discovering new things despite the bad execution, then the zones just seem beautiful but lifeless. I actually enjoyed exploring areas like the Exalted Plains and the Emerald Graves, but the general consensus seems to be that on their own, the quests in the game are more like MMO quests than something you expect from a single-player RPG. And after my second play through, I could kinda see why.

Compare that to an experience like Skyrim and Witcher, which have the landscape dotted with interesting quests and massive underground caverns to explore, and Dragon Age Inquisition seems boring by comparison. If not for my personal interest in the universe, I probably would have moved on by now.

But I will give points to Dragon Age for how instead of a true open world, they have massive but separate zones (which has its own pros and cons). The variety such separation allows is certainly pleasant. We can get zones of a great many environments and biomes.

Anyways, I didn't like Skyrim. And I have mixed feelings about DAI. I don't hate it, but I think it could have been so much better if Biower invested and focused in what they are known and praised for: storytelling. A lot of times when playing DAI I get to a point where I'm like "what am I doing?", I just feel like I'm wasting my time. But then I go back to it, so I don't know what's with this game and my feelings for it. It's a mixed bag.

The Witcher 3 is a whole different story. This game is in a league of its own.

Many zones I felt the same.

 I go to the Western Approach, meet Hawke and The Warden to check out this ritual going on.

After that I'm like, "So, aside from this ritual and getting sand in my crotch; the purpose of being here is.....?"  <blinks> "Um, I am sure there is a reason. Oh screw it! Bull let's go make some sand angels!"

I most definitely prefer the open worlds in Skyrim , Fallout and The Witcher 3 ,over the different worlds in DA I.

The Elder Scrolls' system is totally different. There are a relatively short main line, and much interesting side lines. I you done with the main line, you can finish the game, or, you can go for other story lines, little quests (not gathering shit – of course, if you want it, you will find such things too). I like it so much.
I think, DA:I's "open world" not the best... I like main quest, and somewhat like the companion's quests (not all), and somewhere I found interesting quests, but I prefer Origins and DA2.

The zones were beautiful, and my first playthrough I really appreciated that. Beyond that, I can't say much good about the zones. They had too little to do, MMO-style side quests, and they did not relate enough to the main story. Also, too much wilderness and not enough cities and towns. I love getting to a new town/city, talking to everyone and getting overloading with new quests. I missed that a lot with DAI.

I cut DAI some slack in this department as they had to both learn a brand new engine and then create all the systems to turn it from an FPS engine to an RPG one (and still produce a very fun game). And you still have to deal with time and budget constraints. A lot of what they originally planned didn't make it into the final game. I'm guessing "Fetch" style quests are a lot less resource intensive than full cinematic secondary quests...

But it's a safe bet that DA4 will have more robust secondary quests as that seems to be the most common request.

My biggest gripe was most of it felt barren. I would really enjoy seeing much more populated zones, and yes to more cities and towns. It's why Hinterland was my favourite, flaws and all.
