My takeaway: Three years is a reasonable guess given what we know, but I’m not convinced this person has a sliver of insider information to go on.

Following those events, the developer has not put a substantial amount of work into a new Dragon Age. BioWare needs a hit, so the entire studio is putting its efforts into ensuring a successful launch for Anthem. Sorry but i am still not interested in buying Anthem. I don´t care for this game. I care for DA 4. Its crazy that such financially successful game like DAI has so much problems to get a sequel. But maybe the planned DA 4 was too similar to Mass Effect Andromeda so EA axe it.
It likely doesnt, its just regurgitating the public opinion on things.

As unlikely this rumor sounds, I'd rather the devs not put themselves through inhumane crunch hours to get it out the door quickly just so they can appease impatient fans. If it means 3 years, then fine by me.

Weird. They made Dragon Age 2 in about five minutes and it was great. We could be on Dragon Age 10 by now!

My takeaway: Three years is a reasonable guess given what we know, but I’m not convinced this person has a sliver of insider information to go on. yeah i mean they (whomever created the article) obiously just posted the most common assumptions, being the 3 years and the news casey mentioned being revealed in the game awards. it's either an incredibly good sources or they are being full of shit. which is more likely i wonder? =P personally i suspect that both bioware and EA would not want to wait too long before releasing the next dragon age game. so i estimate it will be released by the 1st quarter of 2020, maybe i'm wrong, doesn't matter. if 3 years is really what it takes for the next dragon age game to come out i am fine with waiting that long. right now, the main reason i want it to take less, is so whoever wrote this "article" will get tripped on their own bullshit! xD

3 years from now seems highly suspect to me, I mean we know that a skeleton team has been noodling away in the background for some time, so a lot of groundwork could, theoretically be done, plus, why make an announcement so far out? it makes no sense as all BW will be, is bogged down with questions begging for more info.
Most likely, in my own opinion, is that the game, while still not ready for release is far enough along to announce & as Anthem nears release, staff who are finished with that project are being moved to DA, so it'll be hitting a full production cycle soon.
These are just my thoughts, we'll find out soon I'm sure.

I mean... whatever. I'm struggling to maintain enthusiasm for the franchise as it is. It's already been 4 years with nothing to show, so hearing that they havent really even been working on it would be a disappointment, but hardly a surprise.
I don't buy the argument that longer development automatically means a better game than we would be getting otherwise, and I don't see the sense in waiting for a new console generation, there hasn't been any news about THAT either. Better to build on the success of an existing franchise than to move everyone over to a new one that nobody asked for. Putting all their eggs in the Anthem basket seems foolish in the extreme. There's nothing wrong with experiments, but that's what Anthem is: an experiment, and they've devoted the vast majority of their resources to it. If it succeeds, great. If it flops?
It would have made more sense to spread manpower out evenly over multiple products. Diversify your investments, reduce risk of an extremely expensive failure. Business 101.

I'm amazed it's taking them this long for a sequel. They should have a team working on it since the last one released. It's one of their leading IPs for chrissake.

I know no one wants to read doom in the tea leaves but it's always been my worst case scenario, when Laidlaw leaving and the DA4 reboot coincided, that when Laidlaw left he left because of that reboot. Because it was just too harshly at odds with how he saw DA. Laidlaw loves/loves DA and it being treated like its conventional wisdom he left DA because of whateverthefuck live service entails leaves me with a pit in my stomach.

Bioware should give up. Whatever they do, it'll never be enough. It was either they keep quiet and have the narrative that Bioware is only an Anthem studio and "DA WAS MURDERED" or they announce something now to tell em they are doing more than just Anthem but now it's too far away and that's not enough. I for one am happy. It's no doubt next gen and I thought Inquisition was hurt for being crossgen? I can wait, as long as no.4 is coming. Also GAAS is not a problem, especially if they follow Asscreed Odyssey, free content? yes pls. Also Witcher 3 is GAAS btw.

OK, I think my last shred of hope for a decent conclusion to the Dragon Age saga just died. Bioware as a great RPG developer is dead. If Anthem is successful this is the future. If not, there is no future for Bioware. They already confirmed a sort of reboot which may or may not have made Laidlaw leave. This all sounds like EA is trying to make Dragon Age into something else, something more profitable.
I have zero expectations for DA4 at this point. No, I'm not happy this game is even made. We shouldn't be thankful that a former RPG developer decides to still continue their RPG franchise at some point! The fact that we have to wait a ridiculous long time for DA4 tells me all I need to know about EA's priorities.
Everybody is in love with live services and micro transactions since gaming has become a mainstream casual party. Bethesda has gotten greedy too. They are in no hurry to release another Elder Scrolls game because ESO is making them money. Fans have to be "patient" about Starfield's release. Who knows what that means. Instead they wasted resources on FO76. So the next singleplayer Fallout will come out when I'm elderly or something.
None of the developers I used to love is releasing singleplayer games at the moment. I'm really annoyed at this point. Figures that the best RPG I've played in the past 5 years (maybe ever) was an indie title: Divinity Original Sin 2 with way higher production value than the buggy online multiplayer mess that is AAA right now.
Sorry for the rant but EA, Zenimax and the developers pumping out grindy garbage for them can all go to hell.

Let's summarize how BS this story is, in two tweets. Back when those "reboot" rumors arose (let's not forget, Jason Schreier actually dialed back his use of the word "reboot"), this was Casey Hudson's response to Schreier's "live services" contextless buzzword: So that confirms that -- regardless of what degree of "reboot" it was -- that BioWare staff were actively working on Dragon Age 4 at the time of Hudson posting that tweet. And only three months later did we get the game's Executive Producer explicitly referring to "DA4": How exactly does a game that's not in development have an Executive Producer? And if work on the game was supposedly cancelled prior to this, why was Mark Darrah teasing DA4? (Bonus: Writer Sylvia Feketekuty's Twitter bio describes her as: Obviously the unannounced project is Dragon Age 4 and explicitly not Anthem. So how the hell is she working on a supposedly-shelved project?) That's enough for proof from actual BioWare staff, but let's look at the obvious: - The "focus on one game, side-staff on another" approach has always been BioWare's modus operandi. Given the actual proof we've seen from BioWare, that's been true of Anthem and DA4 for a long time.
- David Gaider has said in the past that Inquisition also went through several redesigns.
- Also, the entire idea of EA waltzing in and throwing out everything the team had been working on is ludicrous and only believable if you're completely deluded about EA/BioWare and willing to swallow any complete nonsense.

This will make me what... 23-24 when I play DA4. I was 16 when DAI came out. Damn, that's a big difference. Even counting from Tresspasser, it's just too much time. The emotions are gone. And so many people will be new to the fanchise, not wanting to play even DAI, not to speak about DAO and DA2, that they'll have to make it newcomer-friendly. That usually means fewer ties with previous games, which is just... bad

Also, let's be honest:
Do you think it's any coincidence that a vague, unsubstantiated, and absurd article meant to incite negativity about the game was posted specifically on a day Dragon Age fans chose to share their love of the series?
This is a scummy gaming journalist purposefully trying to shit on Dragon 4ge Day and provoke abuse towards the developers, when they clearly have nothing that stands up to existing evidence or even simple logic.

It may all be a lie but after Andromeda where ALL these rumors nobody wanted to believe turned out to be true, I tend to give them more credit than the desperate "all will be fine" chant of the optimistic fans or Bioware's vague reassurances.

I think most people expected a late 2020 or 2021 release. People knew that Bioware was throwing everything at Anthem which means very little has been done on DA. However every so often you'll see a thread where people hope for 2019 and I just wonder why people set themselves up for disappointment like that.
2021 and beyond is good, they're not straddling the console generations like Inquisition. However, if this is true (no indication it is yet) then this pushes the future of Mass Effect WAAAAAAAAAAAAY back. So yeah Mass Effect fans rejoice for Mass Effect 5, release date 2025 ...

How exactly does a game that's not in development have an Executive Producer? You're presenting a strawman argument to argue against instead of referring to what the article says. Yes the article is not proof of anything, however the article never said the game wasn't in development, nor did the article say the game was shelved. The article said DA4 was still very early in development, that there hasn't been a substantial amount done, and that it's been in limbo.
