Ye, that made me real sceptic with the rando inscriptions and rarity of drops for gear and mats. It's randomness has indeed similarity to gambling boxes. Only it's indirect now. While we're at it. Elite Dangerous had rando rolls on their shitty crafting too. They forgot to implement mtx to bypass the inane shit though. They also realised it's shittyness for progress. You basically wasted time for useless attempts to improve gear. Anthem randoness sounds just like that. Exactly, Elite Dangerous "RNGineers" made me quit the game after 400h, never relaunched the game after that. I followed the game a little but everything I read after that just made me dislike Frontier even more (and love Digital Extreme or CDPR even more) I'm pretty much in same range and also quit with 2.1. I left it a while installed but in the end I made room on disk. Now I cant be arsed anymore to reinstall and look at new stuff.

So would a solution to this be to add an option of choosing your modifiers for more resources when crafting? I can see that as a possibility if it is the case.

Metacritic is being quite nice; some pretty negative reviews are categorized as "mixed" to keep the score above 60.

That was the most predictable disaster ever.

That was the most predictable disaster ever. Truth be told they showed the best Stronghold, the best 3 missions (except maybe one other) and a good portion of the Freeplay map. Apart from the technical issues the demo showed the best things the game had. The fact that they are not enough is another question. In essence the demo warned the consumers what they will get and even lied a bit upping the product quality

I wonder how this forum in general feels about username pings out of the blue for pointing and laughing purposes? I remember azarhal desperately arguing with me that this game wasn't going to be a Destiny/Division genre game. The "I told you so" doesn't feel so good when it's about a game failure. I would have preffered to be wrong and Anthem to be an amazing product. But I sort of paid just 8 bucks for it with Premier and got my money worth on loads of other library games too. It's sad that this game alone will soon cost less than 8 rupees. I notice that the majority of Anthem's white knights are quiet lately. You can claim they play the game, but judging by their gear rating they don't really play it much.Well maybe if they didn't patch the loading screens, I'd have more time to post here;

Oh 100% on the defense squad. I noted on the Anthem subreddit that there is always a huge commonality between all the people saying "screw the reviews and haters, I love this game!" and it's that they're all like 7 hours played, level 15 and halfway through the story. I can see lots of people playing, including 5 friends that are about to hand me 5 x Tier 10 coin to spend through the Alliance system. I'm just about to hit 40 hours on the playthrough at level 26 with around 75% of the critical story path done. Reviewers are welcome to have their views, but I'm having a blast with it and I'm glad others are too.

If only it were that simple. How hard can it be, tho? I gotta have the DRAMA, man, I just got to have it! On a more serious note, Anthem is not 'bad' in the traditional sense. But it is 'disappointing' and 'underwhelming.' And ME:A was also 'disappointing' and 'underwhelming'. But I had a lot of fun with Andromeda regardless. In some aspects, it was one of a kind, even if that kind was not always well executed. And I have enjoyed many games like that. I fear for Anthem's longevity because even without DLC, Andromeda had an extensive single player, and Anthem has nothing like that.

And I have enjoyed many games like that. I fear for Anthem's longevity because even without DLC, Andromeda had an extensive single player, and Anthem has nothing like that. Let's take out the "bad" then. I would say the game is just below average, it's nice to look at, some good animations here and there, but the systems it tries to implement are a complete total failure. The repetitive quests (by the second mission you have seen it all), the terrible AI, the matchmaking, the end game, the boring loot for a looter shooter, recycled content, the weak writing and story, I could go on forever, it can barely do a thing well. Andromeda at least keep me engaged and things somewhat worked, even if they were uninspiring, an average game at best. Both fail to meet BioWare's reputation, one got a studio closed and the other is getting an even worse reception. I want this game to actually sell for their sake, but it doesn't deserve to. Well, here's for DA4. And we all can enjoy these failures of games, just don't pretend they're a misunderstood game. Heck, I enjoyed my time with Ark despite it being a turd.

EAnthem is getting lower scores than a trainwreck piece of shit that was EAndromeda. Now EAndromeda's flop caused Mass Effect to be suspended and the studio that made it was shut down. Let that sink in.

I think it’s just a case of loyal BioWare fans trying their best to save a game developer that has given so much to them in the past. We’re talking amazing games like KOTOR, Mass Effect 1 & 2 for me personally, maybe Dragon Age for others too.
They know deep down that Anthem is going to be the game that completely buries BioWare into the ground in the eyes of normal people. They’ll never admit it, they’ll blame nasty reviewers with an agenda or Russian trolls but deep down they are fucking scared. I’m not scared anymore because I had all this with Mass Effect Andromeda. I saw what happened to one of my favourite franchises of all time and I lay awake at night, partly because Peebee’s face stopped me from sleeping and partly because I was worried for the future of Mass Effect. I tried to like it so much and defend it to anyone that listened. It made my face incredibly tired. But then I played the story a second time and then it hit me. Just like when I watched Attack on Titan for the second time and realised I bloody hate anime, then it all made sense. The dialogue options were pointless as anything, the Krogan all sounded like lesbian school teachers, all the asari were obviously inbred, the Kett were Destiny concept rejects, Drack pulled a gun on me (or I had to pull a gun on him) but it didn’t matter one bit, Peebee, Jesus Christ Peebee and oh for the love of God the choices are so boring and inconsequential.
I want a Mass Effecy trilogy remastered for PS4. I want more Mass Effect like the good old days where I felt like my character was a representation of my morality. I’ll even take Mass Effect BioWare at this point. Anthem is going to screw all that up. Maybe I’ll never get what I want again.
I get why you want to defend this game as much as possible, we all know what EA are like when they’ve had enough of a developer. Oh well.

Well, here's for DA4. And we all can enjoy these failures of games, just don't pretend they're a misunderstood game. Heck, I enjoyed my time with Ark despite it being a turd. The bolded is perhaps the key part here, but also sort of the ironic thing about BioWare. Perhaps putting them on a pedestal was a bad move. Like the plot of Anthem, it is mostly predictable, by the numbers "save the world" kinda stock stuff, but BioWare always does that stock "save the world" fantasy styled game. They were never known for pure nuance, save for maybe Dragon Age 2 where it was clunky, and thats being generous to the Mage/Templar plot. It was their character writing that always was the saving grace to push them through. And the character writing is very Joss Whedon-style where its natural banter and bits of sarcasm. I can stomach some of that, but for others it's grating for sure. That does wear down in the game though, and may cause problems for people and how they view game's overall writing and tone. That is the kind of irony there though. Their plots were never their strong suit, but we always praised them for "story", even in the press, when we should of recognized that their stories were never beyond the pale of standard tropes. Or at the very least, acknowledge those tropes more, even when they are well done and subvert or play with cliches instead of playing them straight. Their narrative direction, while still cinematic, is also underwhelming and "safe" by BioWare standards from the past (sticking to cliches vs playing with them). Nowhere near as safe as Andromeda id say so far, but definitly a very noticable change in their character direction. They have gotten gunshy if that makes any sense.

I'm pretty much in same range and also quit with 2.1. I left it a while installed but in the end I made room on disk. Now I cant be arsed anymore to reinstall and look at new stuff. So would a solution to this be to add an option of choosing your modifiers for more resources when crafting? I can see that as a possibility if it is the case. Announced as "mild" upgrades - I really expected cosmetic crafting, coloured lasers and largely non-gameplay impacting doodads - it was pure power creep. At first on layered rng. You'd look for rando instances to farm, drop into them for rando loot, then go to engineer to roll rando results. Came with convoluted material bloat, too. Gameplay in its initial form was atrocious. You couldn't even tell if a planet would yield mats you were looking for until you went down and sampled half an hour.
It was bad.
Two years later they cut back the most tedious aspects, put in some mat exchange but the power creep stayed. Now you not only can forget about pvp against HC grinders and cheaters, you also have to deal with bulletsponged AI. So basically all I could do before engineers takes now longer and is more difficult than before. I'd need to grind the shit just to be able to play like I did before the power juices went flowing. I see no pint in it really.
It demonstrated to me how your experience can be quite negatively affected by "live service" and online game principles. These games come with a risk to get screwed over. Especially when power creep might leave you behind and you have to run the hamsterwheel to catch up on just the basic gameloops.
