If BioWare were to close, would you feel sad? If Bioware in 2010 or even 2012 were to close...yes I would feel sad. Today? Not so much. Just take them off of life support and allow them to peacefully fade away.

A lot of it does boil down to the reviewer of course, but the problem with criticism in aggregate is mostly an issue of lacking rigor in the writing and critique in general. I have advocated for critics to improve that for a while now. If more are a bit more specific of what their problems are, it would go a long way for constructive critique. Why is it that 13 hours in Anthem, for example, is less fun than 6 hours in Destiny, if that was a criticism they needed to make. That would be nice. It's just hard to do and most people either lack the skill to bring that into the conversation or, more maliciously, don't care for various reasons. We need better critics for stronger reviews to really spell out the problems, and not put their own baggage into the mix. I generally despise youtubers as a whole but one thing I will give them over pro reviewers is that the guys who really play the shit out of these games know what they're talking about and dig into the details of the game, which is important to me. For example I haven't seen any of the actual pro reviewers mention things like the mismatched inscription effects that have no effect and make no sense, the abbreviated and confusing descriptions in the UI, and the lackluster masterwork effects. But most of the deep dive youtubers have indeed jumped into that, and while most of them eschew traditional ratings in their reviews, they typically end up sounding much more harsh on Anthem than someone who essentially only covers the bare basics. Which is deserved, IMO. True, but that could also be considered issues that are not on the radar of the reviewer just as easily because they don't see them as broken or lackluster, though that is also coming down to the subjectivity of the review at hand. A video is also better suited for long-format though to cover even minor details...something to my own chagrin since all I do is write long-form articles since i'm basically an old school thesis nerd.

Yeah were investigating that right now. I posted elsewhere about it but it's A) a he-said she-said situation and b ) he was not blacklisted or blocked by EA. In fact the review is up now just without the EA watermark which was apparently the contested issue.

The reviewers who dig into Anthem find more detailed flaws at every level and, instead of being given more credit/validity, are thrown away as hatemongers because they made an especially negative review.

Depends on the user. The ones that just say this game in terrible or this game is awesome are worthless. The only user ratings worth anything are the ones that actually take time to explain their reasons for the score.
But taking all of them as a whole is not a good indicator of anything to me.
Who has time to read every single user review? That’s why you just look at the aggregate score which typically, IMO correlates with how the game is. Anthem is a true 3.0/10 shitter. Yeah, why would anyone ever take the time to read about something they're thinking about dropping $60 on when they can let an aggregate score from people who aren't even verified players/owners of the game make up their mind for them.

It doesn't matter if you depend on aggregate or individual reviews, youtubers or magazines, streamers or whatever else. All the reviews are bad. Even the good ones are just good on a hope things will improve.

Even the good ones are just good on a hope things will improve. Not all of the reviews are bad. I mentioned earlier today that the Xbox reviews are good. Now at 345 reviews it is at an average of 4.2/5 or 84%. 70% of the people gave it 5/5. And you have to own the game to be able to vote.

Any game that gets review bombed is doing something wrong. What that is, it depends on the game and warrants some sort of investigation on the part of the reader. It could be something completely irrelevant for you. A game that's getting bad critical reviews and getting review bombed is probably not a good game. That doesn't mean a game isn't worth playing. Aliens vs Predator: Extinction didn't get great reviews but I enjoyed it anyway and played it a lot. Simpsons Wrestling got horrible critical reviews (I admit it's pretty bad) and it's one of my favorite PS1 games. Games don't need to be critical masterpieces for you, or anyone else, to enjoy them. Whether or not Anthem bombs is one matter, whether or not it's good or bad is another. And whether or not you like it is yet another matter.

The Xbox reviews on where? Metacritic? On the Xbox. Got it. I always find the 5/5 reviews a bit silly whether it's on console games, Steam workshop mods, Netflix shows, you name it. 5 out of 5 is a bit ridiculous; so is 0/10 as well. I think the community is going to rip itself to pieces over this one. Bioware Edmonton's survival as we know it depends on Anthem's success and a lot of people don't want to see the studio get sent to the scrap heap. Other people want nothing more than for it to close, and for EA to get a colossal black eye. Either way this won't be pretty.

Brooo what the fuck, 61? Holy shit, Bioware releases an worse turd than Andromeda. Jesus Christ. Bioware just delete yourself. And here I was expecting the game to struggle hitting the 80s. My God. What a disaster.
After watching the SkillUp review, how did they even have the nerve to release this after six years? Any Destiny is far better than this, and much cheaper too.

Some more 50s have come in and Anthem is now at 60. That's fuckin rough. I still believe that Fallout 76 is what finally woke pro reviewers up.
Yeah, that's tough.
Does anyone have a breakdown of which score is based on what version of the game? That can explain some of the low scores.
100% before Day 1 patch, that’s for sure, based in timing. I’d guess some amount of VIP demo and/or pre-release (same build as Gamechangers) experience is included.

Well it's ahead of crackdown 3, so there! 61 aggregate rating on metacritic- 37 from users. So let this die like you did MEA, and get to REAL work on the next DA game.

It's time to end this paranoia of "BioWare is being targeted" and hold them accountable for their failures. Anthem is being received worse than Andromeda. What will the excuse be this time? People are focusing only on the animations? Or the game is just bad?

Thats stuff you really cant fix in a patch. 3) Unless we learn more at a later time....Anthem had a long and smooth development whereas Andromeda changed scope late in development. So yeah....whats the excuse now?

Well, the basic gameplay strikes me as OK. It's the looter shooter upgrade loops which don't seem to work well. It's not too shocking, really; Bio often serves up combat which is fun but breaks down at high levels, and Bio's loot progression has been questionable for years.

There are other issues, but the core gameplay loop, is simply not a great thing. It's just not.
