Are we supposed to understand that there's a language barrier? I got the impression that Thedas followed the usual "they all speak one English (or another language if you're using a translated version) for convenience" thing.

I mean, there is Tevene, "english", the Qunari language, elven... Honestly, I don't know why the dwarves don't have their own language. Those dwarves that have been with the Titans for over a thousand years seemed to speak another language, you couldn't understand a word they were muttering in the darkness. What about Fog Warriors? The Avvars seem to speak "english" as well. But they and the dwarves have words that are very specific to their culture. so it seems "english" is more of a TRADE language they've all become fluent in. Maybe their own languages are being lost over time, like how Indian tribes are losing their languages today.
So, for sure, we'd all have to speak the TRADE language. Which is very questionable is actual English. I imagine they all speak the TRADE language, if it were an actual place we were "looking into" via the video game.

I'm going to have to cheat here because if I was really in the same state as I went to bed, I'd be naked, so I'm going to assume I fell asleep in front of the TV and so am in my black casual top and trousers, which wouldn't look too out of place in Thedas. Am I allowed to bring my cat with me? He's pretty smart and would make a second Ser Pouncelot. I am actually quite good at archery, if a little ring rusty at present, and can also fight with both a foil and a rapier, so I should be able to defend myself reasonably well. I've also plenty of experience with horses so I'd probably offer myself to my Inquisitor Lavellan as an all round help about the place but particularly looking after his numerous horses out in the field. I also love researching ancient lore, so could help sorting through all the stacks of codices that he has acquired, and debating issues, which I'm sure Dorian would appreciate. I'd probably offer myself to Dorian as a research assistant when he got back to Minrathous, so I wouldn't have to stay in southern Thedas, because it is generally either cold and wet (not good for my asthma) or full of Orlesians. Alternatively, start a school in Kirkwall (or with the help of Lavellan's clan in Wycome)so ordinary kids can get an education outside of the Chantry, financed by Enavir Lavellan because that is something dear to his heart too.
My Lavellan would keep me around; I'd know his future, and plus I'd be a mage (cause why not?) but after the main game ended, I think he'd put with Cassandra to help rebuild the Seekers (I'd be the first Mage to join the Seekers) and so, I'd assist until Trepasser, where they brought me along to help them against Solas (because I'd know where he was during Trepasser)which I assist, until they realized I didn't know what Solas was planning (post Trepasser) and than my usefulness would ruin out, but just to Artemis, but not to Cassie and the Seekers; although for them I'd be a record keeper...

I'd survive as good as anyone else... for a while Being educated goes a long way, and I'd try to find a chantry. BUT I'm on a timer because I'm also a Type I Diabetic, and need my insulin (caused by an autoimmune disorder, pancreas stops producing insulin). That's a very long, slow death I'd have to endure. Can't just exercise it away. So unless Thedas has made great strides in medicine... or there's a cure there I don't know about... I'd survive as long as I'm able before I keel over.

I like to think I'd do all right, based mostly on my organic farming background and extensive knowledge of ferments.
And since I was raised on a protein rich diet and exercise quite a lot, I'm pretty strong. Which hopefully would help, since I'd probably be bigger than most of the semi-nourished citizenry of Thedas. I'm good with dogs and can manage not falling off of horses.
I'd probably be sincerely outclassed at all the fun jobs, but maybe I could manage being an alewife or a baker without too many regrets. ...Though if I did that, I would profoundly miss my reliable, poofy sourdough starter. While I love it and it makes excellent bread super-fast, I don't love it enough to smear it about my person while I sleep. Alas.

If you were close to a Circle, the local Chantry might be able to bring in a healer capable of setting your pancreas right. Maybe. I mean, the Codex outright states that the Circle can reverse clinical death. Type 1 diabetes should be doable too. Or if you were in Tevinter rather than Southern Thedas (or you were somewhere in Southern Thedas where you could reach Tevinter,) you could almost certainly survive by selling yourself into slavery: there's no way a blood mage couldn't get that organ working again, as long as you were willing to donate the blood he needed. (Not that I'd suggest that step under any less drastic circumstances. Then again, as an educated slave you'd have more safety from being exsanguinated than other slaves: the Venatori who thought nothing of draining slaves and didn't care much when a whole bunch of them died also forbade their slave-scribe to lift anything heavier than a quill.)

Well the first thing I'd do is find the Inquisitior and tell them Solas is Fen'Harel and the Qunari are going to invade the south. Just so they can do something about it and all that drama can be avoided, allowing me to swoop in and romance my femquistor.

I know all the secrets. I know that Alistair's mother was an elf, for example. I know what is going to happen in the future: who Solas really is and what he is planning, Qunari and the Dragons Breath plan, etc. I'm sure someone would be willing to pay for that information. Of course I would have to learn the language first. If I could somehow get to Skyhold, then I could quickly get some clothes and Cole, the mind reader, could help me communicate with the people there. Cole the mind reader can absorb all the informations from you and prevent you to sell anything. Not to mention that he will discover that you aren't even of that planet.

He didn't rat out on Solas, at least.

There are two npc near Lake Calenhad who believe that Thedas is just a fictional world.I think the only thing one need to do to prove it to the people there is by showing them how the word Thedas is just an acronym.

Wow, when put this way, maybe a more fun question would be how doomed would S. Thedas be if we got there and corrupted their system? A lot of us are very smart, very intelligent and we're technologically ahead of the curve despite their advantage with magic. Varric is a rare person to realize what we know historically could happen if his crossbow was mass-produced. If we introduce guns, we change their warfare tactics forever. (The Grey Wardens would kill for anything that gave them an edge so if all it takes is to shelter some poor shmuck who knows how to improve their weapons...)

Would anyone believe you? Eluvian networks connecting to the ruins of Arlathan? Qunari spies? Solas is Fen'Harel? You'd be locked up in the loonie bin. Even more so if you claimed none of this was real!
I distinctly remember my mental state prior to starting Trespasser. Even with the revelation at the end of the main game, where Flemeth calls Solas 'Dread Wolf', I was not ready to believe that Solas would turn into a villain. Hell, I thought Trespasser was going to be about helping Solas free the modern elves!!
If you try to convince an Inquisition that befriended Solas that he was the true villain behind everything, you'd be laughed out of Skyhold. If you're lucky. Leliana might consider it, since she suspects everything, and Vivienne, since she never liked Solas, but that's about it.

The real danger would be how many believe you and want you to shush permanently if you start pointing fingers at enemies hiding amongst them. I think it'd be fun to see how receptive would they be having a psychologist. Bull would probably see the profession as being like the Ben Hassarath.

Well I'm an accountant and a very resourceful person. I know a little bit about wilderness survival and dog training. I can cook and can take care of myself in a tight situation. Problem is I cannot say anything close up without my reading glasses. So, I think I may just head to the chantry and ask for a pair of pants, some shoes and basic supplies and make my way to Ferelden. I have a head for business. So perhaps i can start over with a Mabari breeder, help out with the dogs, and save my royals to get a crafty dwarf to make me some reading specs. Then i probably could move into some merchant guild position, get some martial training (have had some akido training and know how to throw an effective punch) and work my way up the chain. I'd do okay, but I would miss coffee and peanut butter.

Me too Okay let's Haya Adaar would probably take me to safety cause she assumes it's a quest, like saving Recruit Ritts. Does that mean they'd find you at a picnic? If I was really down and out of luck in spite of all that, I'd find a Rose or Pearl equivalent with a good Madame that keeps an eye on the customers and go from there. There's no shame in that, and I'm sterile; so no accidents. Language wouldn't be much of a barrier either. How... can you even suggest that? Where is your self-worth? D: Me waking up in the Crossroads wearing my pjs and no glasses... I could still see without my glasses even though everything around me is a bit blurry. The only problem is I can't read signs from far away. None of us would be able to read the signs. We probably know more Elven than we do Fereldan or Orlesian. Actually, I happen to speak fluent Orlesian But I'd also hate living in Orlais... The dwarves' language is their trade language, which as you said, is the Common Tongue in Thedas. Everyone speaks Dwarven! I would assume that since Orzammar's lifeline has been trade for ages, and being cut off-from other dwarven Thaigs, the trade language overwrote their previous one (that you see remnants of). Well the first thing I'd do is find the Inquisitior and tell them Solas is Fen'Harel and the Qunari are going to invade the south. Just so they can do something about it and all that drama can be avoided, allowing me to swoop in and romance my femquistor.Would anyone believe you? Leliana might consider it, since she suspects everything, and Vivienne, since she never liked Solas, but that's about it. Well, it really depends on your Inquisitor. Mine would probably just get Cole to see if you're telling the truth, or at least that you think you are. I personally only have the slightest idea how gunpowder is made, so this isn't a problem for me, but if anyone who did know tried to spread the knowledge I think the qunari would probably have them assassinated. Well, there's not much they could do if you sold/gave it to enough people fast enough. Anyway, how screwed would I be? About average, I guess. I don't really have any skills that would be relevant there, since being good at video games wouldn't help any And don't have a career or any post-secondary education yet. I have some martial arts training, but no (medieval) weapons training. Does Thedas have pianos? I suppose I could possibly play one of those for a living, if I practiced. Other than that, I could probably find some menial accountant/secretarial job as was mentioned. I would say I could teach Orlesian, but to be honest the grammar would just ruin that prospect I suppose I would probably spend my spare time trying to "invent" more modern technology, which could easily make me rich if done correctly. Being without my medication wouldn't be good unless I managed to fix myself with magic as was suggested. Or, maybe I'd kill myself. Being forced into an alien world without anyone you know and love would suck. And by kill myself, I mean "put myself in a position to be killed", like joining the Grey Wardens, so as not to render my death completely pointless.

Again, I'm stealing a great idea from Reddit by eravas, here: https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/comments/58d8qd/spoilers_all_if_you_woke_up_in_thedas_tomorrow/ I'm tweaking the parameters a bit, hopefully to simplify things. Assume post-Doom Upon All The World, but before Trespasser. Sometime in the 2 year gap. Anywhere in Southern Thedas you choose. Also assume you are wearing whatever you went to bed with here, and wake up only with what you are wearing there, in the morning. Consider what skills and knowledge you bring to the table. What are your chances of survival? What would be the thing that's mostly to be your doom?Your chances of survival would be 100% for all of you there is no doom i'll bet we will all adept. But it depends on where you wake up of course. If you wake up in a bears liar then you will be certain of your doom because you will be his/her breakfast.
