Again, I'm stealing a great idea from Reddit by eravas, here: https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/comments/58d8qd/spoilers_all_if_you_woke_up_in_thedas_tomorrow/
I'm tweaking the parameters a bit, hopefully to simplify things. Assume post-Doom Upon All The World, but before Trespasser. Sometime in the 2 year gap. Anywhere in Southern Thedas you choose. Also assume you are wearing whatever you went to bed with here, and wake up only with what you are wearing there, in the morning. Consider what skills and knowledge you bring to the table. What are your chances of survival? What would be the thing that's mostly to be your doom?

First thing I'd say: ENCHANTMENT? ENCHANTMENT??? ENCHANTMENT!??!
Then I'd probably be dead by dusk, after smoking too much elfroot. Also, because I don't have a single skill to keep me alive.

I'm wearing what I went to bed with? So I arrive there in my pajamas? And I don't even wear socks! I'd hope to somehow end up at the Crossroads near Redcliffe and then ask Corporale Vale if he's got a job for me. I've got training (is that the word I'm looking for? ) as a logistics assistant, so I could help with distributing supplies to those in need. Maybe I'd even run back and forth between the Elven Healer and the people who need medicine. (what can I say, I like fetch quests )What would be my doom? Mabaris, or Wolves....no, BEARS! Probably Wildlife in general....

Very. Very much so. I'd die because my glasses wouldn't be anywhere in sight and I'd be blind, so someone could kill me without much effort...

Bruce (my canon) and Kiri Lavellan would probably save me too, because they help everyone. While Greed Trevelyan... Greed: You got anything for me? me: I'm standing here in my pajamas, without glasses. I've got nothing. Greed: 'kay, bye. *walks off* Dorian: *Dorian disapproves* Greed: Ugh, fine.

Me waking up in the Crossroads wearing my pjs and no glasses... I could still see without my glasses even though everything around me is a bit blurry. The only problem is I can't read signs from far away.
I guess I could help keep food, clothing and supplies in stock for the refugees. Plus help out with other stuff such as restoring homes that were destroyed during the war. My film/photography skills won't be of much use unless I'm in Val Royeaux doing theatre work.
If my canon and her entourage are on site, she'd probably recruit me, because she helps everyone as well.

Guessing my Communications degree is about as useless in Thedas as it is here, so... I figure I'll last a few days before I make a smart-ass comment to the wrong person in some tavern and get shivved with a broken bottle.

I dare say it'd be like waking up in a foreign country depending on whether everyone is actually speaking english in Thedas.
My chances would be about the same as any of the refugees in that it'd depend on whether I found someone willing to help me out before getting mugged. It can be hard to say what skills will work for us or against us because this is a question that can change according to what we woke up with, where we ended up and when.
In the middle of a Blight? Yeah, I'm screwed. During Inquisition? I've got a good chance since they'll be taking anyone and everyone, training and feeding them in exchange for work.
If I was a bartender and brewer, I bet I could land Lissa's job in a snap.

Under those circumstances...? You're not gonna have a good time. Okay, so I have no money, no food, no understanding of the language, and very possibly... no clothes. So... what do I have going for me? I can pick to arrive anywhere in southern Thedas? Then I pick a large-ish Chantry somewhere in Val Royeaux. And hopefully get by on charity to start. Maybe pull a Leliana and become a Lay Brother of the Chantry. They're big on education in the Chantry so hopefully they'll teach me the language when I'm not sweeping their floors. Once I've done that, how to improve my station? Well, I do know the recipe for blackpowder. But while at first that might sound like the road to easy riches in the south, it's just as likely to get me killed by, well... hmm, probably a long list of groups (with agents the Qunari at the front of the line). I also know the basic principles of flight and might be able to help them build simple things like... hang gliders. Parachutes maybe too. With the help of mages and expert engineers, maybe even prop planes. Then again, I can imagine my health taking a swift and sudden decline for similar reasons. Quite likely at the hands of the same people too. "Chantry Floor Sweeper" is increasingly looking like the go-to occupation for a long(er), if not prosperous, life. I do cook a mean lasagne though...

I think a lot of you guys are overlooking a huge thing.
We are all literate and relatively educated. It is very likely that in most cases, all of us could become scribes or an accountant for a small business.
Even if we don't know the language, we'd pick it up and we'd still know how to count better than over half of Thedas.
I could teach, once I'd mastered the language.
My trade is that of ultrasound, so literally can't be done ourside of a hospital. Maybe I could get on as a MD assistant anyway, however.
If I was really down and out of luck in spite of all that, I'd find a Rose or Pearl equivalent with a good Madame that keeps an eye on the customers and go from there. There's no shame in that, and I'm sterile; so no accidents. Language wouldn't be much of a barrier either.

In addition to the literate thing, I know how to deep fry things. I bet Thedas would love to be introduced to that.

I'm an amateur boxer and know my way around melee weapons, so I can handle myself should a fight break out.
I also have a smart mouth so fights will probably keep happening around me and I'm bound to get killed in one.

Everyone in this setting is not only used to them, but better at them than we are.

I know all the secrets. I know that Alistair's mother was an elf, for example. I know what is going to happen in the future: who Solas really is and what he is planning, Qunari and the Dragons Breath plan, etc. I'm sure someone would be willing to pay for that information. Of course I would have to learn the language first. If I could somehow get to Skyhold, then I could quickly get some clothes and Cole, the mind reader, could help me communicate with the people there.

I'm going to have to cheat here because if I was really in the same state as I went to bed, I'd be naked, so I'm going to assume I fell asleep in front of the TV and so am in my black casual top and trousers, which wouldn't look too out of place in Thedas. Am I allowed to bring my cat with me? He's pretty smart and would make a second Ser Pouncelot.
I am actually quite good at archery, if a little ring rusty at present, and can also fight with both a foil and a rapier, so I should be able to defend myself reasonably well. I've also plenty of experience with horses so I'd probably offer myself to my Inquisitor Lavellan as an all round help about the place but particularly looking after his numerous horses out in the field. I also love researching ancient lore, so could help sorting through all the stacks of codices that he has acquired, and debating issues, which I'm sure Dorian would appreciate. I'd probably offer myself to Dorian as a research assistant when he got back to Minrathous, so I wouldn't have to stay in southern Thedas, because it is generally either cold and wet (not good for my asthma) or full of Orlesians. Alternatively, start a school in Kirkwall (or with the help of Lavellan's clan in Wycome)so ordinary kids can get an education outside of the Chantry, financed by Enavir Lavellan because that is something dear to his heart too.
My doom would be my idealism and outspoken nature which would likely land me in trouble, particularly with the Chantry, because I have a lot of issues with the Chantry, or the Magisterium, because I oppose slavery with a passion.
