I studied Chemical Engineering and work as a Chemist, so I would end up as an alchemist in Thedas.
Additionally, I would be a human (my eyesight in low light conditions is crap so I cannot be a dwarf or an elf) male from Northern Thedas due to my brown skin color.

I would like to think I'd join the Circle as soon as i was able too . I'd refuse anyone's offer to break me out of there! It'd end well, as I would be one of the many scholars of the Circle, and not being killed by Bandits! Or diseases! And I'd probably outlive the rest of you! I'd be happy with my lifestyle..

I also do not have any inherent special ability to shape reality by thinking and gesturing. Lastly, I mostly have dreamless sleep and its rare for me to dream when sleeping - When I do dream, it would be nightmares or trippy fractal-esque confusing dreams (even though I do not take LSDs) or erotic dreams and I forget a lot of them when I wake up.

Eh. True. But I would be. I don't think it would that bad actually. I think i'd rather like being a mage in Thedas (this is coming from a semi-pro Templar person).

I rewatched the confrontation scene last night, and I got the impression that there's not going to be like a systematic purge of all races, just that the world's going to "burn in the raw chaos," and he doesn't have any illusions about the fact that scores and scores of people must die for his plan to come to fruition. I don't know if tearing down the Veil will warp people or if it's just the "raining hellfire" bit that's supposed to kill everyone. Honestly, though, it might just be a big nuke? Like the aftermath of the Conclave (which he sort of accepts responsibility for.... but never actually apologizes for the horrible agony and death those people went through..?). That seems to be about the limit of what we know, yeah. But what I meant was, do we know whether Solas intends to let his hoards of elven followers die too? Or do we have reason to think he has someplace they can hide from... whatever he's going to kill the planet with? And does he have some means for them to ascend or give birth to what he considers to be "true elves?" Or is he limited to those "true elves" who survived as he did? (I don't think being exposed to the Fade would be enough to cause ascension, or else Sera and the Inquisitor should have briefly ascended during Here Lies the Abyss.) Or do we just not have any idea what's going on on that score? Oh, something else relevant to the main topic: in addition to the literacy and the deep frying, I'm large and capable of lifting heavy objects. That method of making a living is not a fun one and wears your body out faster than it should, but it's something someone will reliably pay you for if you live in a city.

That depends where would I end up. If I woke up in Deep Roads... I guess I would die? Yeah, I would die. But let's assume that I would get it to a town or a city. Communication would be a big problem if the official language isn't English. I don't know any craft that might be useful in medieval-like-world. I don't know how to fight with sword or axe. I have some knowledge of Thedas' history, I can count and write, but again - language. The only two jobs I would be able to get are either dockworker (or any manual low paid job) or prostitute. I think I would choose the latter - there's smaller possibility that someone would beat me up and/or slit my throat after a work shift. And once I would learn language... I guess Chantry brothers and sisters don't usually die out of starvation.

I don't know how well I would do, to be honest! But I do have some "skills" that could help me maybe
* I speak French so maybe it could help me with Orlesian? I have no idea how to read/write common however * I'm good with animals of all kind! So I wouldn't mind working with horses or brontos or nugs OR MABARI I have a dog which I trained so it could also help me. * I'm quite nimble and have good reflexes so maybe, I could be a scout. But if I have to fight, I would be dead in seconds Otherwise, I've been told I have a nice voice, so maybe sing in a tavern or something like that

I would like to woke up in Thedas within the body of my HoF.
Step1-kill the mind and the soul of the HoF by using the Archdemon
Step2-Body jump into my new vessel. What a genius plan!Ah.

A land with giant spiders, lots of bears, dragons, darkspawn, blood mages and everything else... id probably be dead by the end of the first day (probably sooner) since id be dressed in pyjamas especially Plus I cant/wont fight so things wouldnt be good there... im not the best singer ever so I couldnt sing in a tavern, im not smart enough to be some kind of scholar... who knows what id do even if I was in civilization somewhere That being said out of everywhere ive seen (so far) in the DA games I have to say id want to be in Orlais because its pretty and I love the fashion

That depends where would I end up. If I woke up in Deep Roads... I guess I would die? Yeah, I would die. Well, the original post says you get to pick. That seems like it makes things less dangerous, if you choose wisely. Skyhold is probably the best place, since the OP says the time period in question is after Doom Upon All The World but before Trespasser, and during those years Skyhold is probably the single safest place in the world. (Not to mention a major trading hub, and that if Inky disbands there will be caravans leaving Skyhold for wherever else you think is a close second.)

Ugh... I guess I could deal with it but... no electricity, no indoor plumbing aside from what Tevinter has with aqueducts (limited to Tevinter and possibly dwarven cities), magic, demons, darkspawn, undead, dragons, blight infection, in addition to the problems posed by living in a medieval-type of society, all mean I would probably either scream or sit down and cry, or maybe both of those in succession. I think a lot of you guys are overlooking a huge thing. We are all literate and relatively educated. It is very likely that in most cases, all of us could become scribes or an accountant for a small business. Even if we don't know the language, we'd pick it up and we'd still know how to count better than over half of Thedas. Wow, you actually manage to make me feel better about the whole thing. I'm sure assisting in a trepanning would be... an experience, at the very least.

Well this was a fun thread, thank you everyone for posting.
Hmmm.... I really hope that I fell asleep wearing some form of clothing and glasses. Other than that I would hope to find some kind of patron that values a person who is able to read and write. Good-bye keyboard and hello calligraphy. Hope I pick it up quickly and don't blot all the previous papers.
Don't know how I will apply my knowledge from my engineering degree, I will really miss having a computer as a tool. Having no contacts or a person to recommend you would be rough, no tutor or someone who can say that you are a decent person.
I have had summer jobs in my youth with clearing out yards and green areas in the city. And selling food and drinks. Might be able to do such things while waiting/praying for said patron. Or heading for the chantry, hoping to find some kind of safe work there in exchange for food and a place to sleep. While getting my bearings.
My allergies and poor eyesight without glasses is not a plus. Another problem is just day to day behavior. Knowing how something is done and showing the community that you fit in. Made a fool of myself on regular basis with everyday stuff while I studied in the US, and then I came from Europe and should be somewhat prepared. Traveling to something as different as Thedas. Well, be observant and try to make friends/contacts. Hopefully they care enough to bail me out/help out when I eventually offended the local bigwig by not saying bowing in the correct manner.

Well, if I woke up in Thedas with what I was wearing to bed I'd probably wake up naked. Oh God.
Provided I'd wake up somewhere without giant spiders or anything else wanting to kill me, I'd hopefully be able to steal some clothes or craft something wearable from the local flora. After that I hope I'd be able to make my way to Skyhold and become a cook, as I am quite good at cooking.

Not sure what a defense lawyer can do in Thedas, but I'd probably become an activist for the mages. As far as I know there are courts in Ferelden so perhaps I can be useful there as well? If I can't do these things, I'd be pretty useless and probably die somewhere. I'd like to slap Vivienne before dying though. Yep, definitely.

First part, the most probable: Politically/socially wise I would just submit to whoever treated me less awfully, I'm very good at obeying as long as it doesn't mean having to do hard work, I mean physichal effort, perhaps even the chantry if I found some place quiet to just keep on reading books and perhaps writing? I usually take what I want from people without having to do anything by myself, I have no greed and no ambition, just 100% lazyness so what I want usually is very very little, just enough to survive without much effort, I guess I could stay out of trouble... I hope Also, I don't require respect so little dirty alienage elf could spit on my face and call me trash and that's ok, same for nobles, qunaris, fex, spirits, chantry sisters, tevinter magisters, and so on, not against people hurting me as long as it doesn't leave a scar forever Combat wise well 27 years of martial arts including weapon training I think I'm good, however I do not fare well in heavy armor, something like ultralight leather or perhaps even cloth armor would be handy... but I really doubt I would find myself in combat situations I'm very intelligent, top of my class on college like teachers always telling others to "be like me" and all friends asking for "advice" during tests... so perhaps I could try to develop something on thedas lore...? I have an easy time learning other languages, I could try that too... I would not be safe on a jungle/forest/desert so I would either look for a city to live in or befriend some ranger, a good one, perhaps even marry him/her if they proved useful, I would hate to die slaughtered by a bear Then, if I could manage to stay out of trouble for a time I would search for someone to help me develop scientific knowledge, bring our 21st century science to Thedas, one step at a time of course, well at least the science method as a base for developing all their knowledges further, since their universe if different they would have to find out most of their knowledge by themselves like how Lyrium works and all
The magic path: If I had magic however I would have a more troubled life, not that I would mind being caged on a Circle Tower, not at all, I would LOVE IT, always being pretty and staying away from monsters, animals, rivers, bugs, the sun, except for the fact that I would give my life to put my hands on three pieces of Thedas lore: The seekers Original Rite of Tranquility, Avernus Research and Fiona's Blight Cure... so I would eventually become and apostate and die... I do not work well with ambitions, I get dumb and screw things up... but if some miracle occurred and I managed to escape the circle tower (I'm 99% sure I would fail, wouldn't even know where to start, and would die if I tried) and find these things, I would spend my life studying it and trying all kinds of forbidden blood magic and void magic (blight magic) to become immortal and enhance my body in a lot of ways, obsessively, crazy scientist talk, like not sleeping for days and going (even more) insane If I ever met Morrigan I would ask her to point me the way to the most isolated corner of the Eluvianverse to keep on researching in absolute peace and that's it... like Avernus 2.0 I would also love to be a prostitute but I would only do this if I had magic so that I could use a barrier to prevent pregnancy and diseases, I wouldn't trust their medieval STD/pregnancy prevention system. One final dream, to have me "tranquilized" like a Seeker but restored not with a Spirit of Faith but with a Desire Demon, goes well with being a prostitute I think... but this is a case where it would be the DAO Desire Demons, sexualized female ones, the succubus archetype, not the "conceptual temptor Imshael", the classic whorish demon... but I think I can find one that fits me in the Fade
Bottom line is... I would probably be better without magic

Instead of running to nearby shack seeking cover like a little mouse, I'd be fighting naked... like a damn boss.
