I was surprised how... ... little impact the decision had on your crew. Whether I turned or Orpheus, no one other than Lae'zel had an opinion on it at all. Yeah, I agree, it feels a bit dodgy asking Orpheus, but he agrees readily enough. I didn't spend an entire game resisting it's use just to give in at the final lap. I was collecting all those tadpoles like Pokémon, but I can't say it ever really occurred to me to actually use them. I'm sure somewhere down the line I'll see where that storyline goes. If I recall correctly, if you have Gale with you and choose certain dialogue options neither actually turns into a mind flayer. Interesting...... I'll have to remember that for next time.

If I recall correctly, if you have Gale with you and choose certain dialogue options neither actually turns into a mind flayer. Really? I'll have to look that up. I had Gale in my party and he said nothing. EDIT: Found this - lots of spoilers for this endgame path One - Get the Orphic Hammer
Two - Take Lae'zel and Gale with you when you go to meet the Netherbrain in the sewers
Three - The next time you meet with the Emperor in the Astral Prism, make sure Gale mentions the Netherese orb (the idea will be shot down)
Four - Tell the Emperor that you'll turn into an illithid yourself until he gives you some super tadpole he's been saving for you; but tell him you'll use it later.
Five - Lae'zel will say something and give you one last chance to back out of the Emperor's plan; Back out and then he'll go running off
Six - Break Orpheus out of the bindings, and when he talks about someone needing to be an Illithid, tell him that you'll turn yourself into one if it comes to that. (This option only appears if you got the tadpole from the emperor)
Seven - Go through the ending sequence, and let Gale go use the Netherese Orb (It's about the best ending you can get for Gale, since the orb never gets shut down)

She at least did in my runs. Gale: "I surrendered the Crown of Karsus to her, as I told you I would. And in return, she cured me of the orb at last." And the tattoo is gone and so are the black veins on his cheek.
So like. I think that would be the best end for him.

Saw that. I'm unsurprised. Larian doesn't really do expansions/big DLC. Plus you're already at 12th level which is about as high as D&D can go without breaking things if you don't have an adaptive DM.
I think Swen Vinke really wants to move on. He's already designing the next game, although they're probably still a long way from real coding/animating/writing.

Alice stuff. Act 2 spoilers. Lae'zel's tactic for the fight was to cast Feign Death on Alice. Twice. Counterspelled the first one then the next one hits and it's like 10 turn time out. And she just went to her tent and waited it out... Then she used THREE SMOKEPOWDER BOMBS. I WAS SAVING THOSE. So like. Breaking the romance off turned out to be easier than expected. Didn't trust myself not to fall for Gale tho so went straight to the temple. Managed not to pick a fight with Balthazar...yet. Patron supported her plans and gave an easy way out with Yurgir. Thank you Patron Astarions cutscene took precedence over Gale's so have officially tied the knot there. Gale's exclamation mark made me sad though. But I've already done a run romancing him. Granted as a mortal but still. Then decided to visit Moonrise before Wulbren get's himself strangled. Zrell gave me lip so I gave her death. Killed the prison guards since that's easier than distracting them. And sent the lot to Last Light Inn. Got the fancy charisma armor but I'm not digging the fit on Alice. Already had a run wearing them and I like the studded leather armor. So it goes in the pile for now. Figure I'll try and thin out the towers next session because it's nice to skip the skirmish later on. Also anything to delay play time with Thaniels shadow half because his legendary move kinda kicked my butt last time.

Not surprising, it's sounded in previous articles like they'd rather get back to doing their own thing, and fair enough too. They can now apply the lessons learned and improvements made in bg3 to a divinity or other original without being limited to trying to follow 5e's rules or the forgotten realms setting.

Yeah, I've DM-ed D&D games, and it's understandable. Still, I held out hope that maybe we'd get an expansion to 15.

Not surprising, it's sounded in previous articles like they'd rather get back to doing their own thing, and fair enough too. I remember them saying that as well. Though given BG3's success... I thought they might reconsider. In fact, there's a chance that this is just a public negotiating strategy for a better cut with Hasbro. At any rate, it's gonna be an age before we see their next game.

I'm sort of glad there won't be any dlc or expansion. The game is already long enough. I mean it takes me 40 hours to fully finish act 1. That is insane. Most games are 40 hours long and in BG3 it's just the first act out of three. As is I struggle to even finish the game having only completed it once. So I can't imagine even more content added. Love the game and it's among my top 4 fantasy rpg's of all time the other three being Planescape: Torment, Dragon Age: Origins, and Knights of the Old Republic II.

Well, that's settled. I definitely don't have enough memory bandwidth to play two characters at the same time. At least, not in the same act.
I just spent something like half an hour looking through my ridiculous mess of inventories trying to figure out what I'd done with a certain tome. Turns out to have been impossible to find all along. This PC, being a pretty stereotypical good cleric, had immediately destroyed the tome outright.

The home stretch! The addition of the Summon Allies feature took me right back to the days of DA: Origins. Only with a lot more options. As this was my first time using the feature, I'm sure I didn't use them anywhere near as effectively as I could have. But... still fun. Along the way, I tried Dame Aylin, Yurgir, Murder Cow, Chonky Owlbear, Voss' Dragon Strike, and a few others I'm probably forgetting. I played them pretty conservatively though (and thankfully they were under my control). I kept worrying they might die on me. (Aylin doesn't look so uber at this level...) Took my time and explored the upper ruins as well as the sewers. It was rather kind of the Illithids to leave out conveniently placed healing pods. My list of buffs was so long at this point (Damn I wish I could turn those little icons off!), it took me a while before I even noticed the buffs we got from our allies. Then it was just fight-run-fight to the checkpoint. Okay. So... I can't scale a 4ft wall, but climbing a 20-story mucus-covered tentacle? No problemo. Look ma - one hand! Then... The Battle on the Brain!... Which I took almost no pictures of. Amazing things happened. We won. Then... The Battle in the Brain! And with that, well... gravity happened. We needed a bath anyway.

And some (most?) of the allies seemed pretty useless. In the courtyard I used the Harpers, but their piddly arrows did almost nothing whilst the party slaughtered everything without really trying that hard. I suspect I should have used Voss's dragon on some of the nicely clumped enemies. On the stairs I didn't use anybody. It was better to use my actions destroying enemies or moving than it was to summon someone. At the end Rolan was very useful in helping against the dragon and the Emperor, but chonky Owlbear did very little. Aylin might have been better, if only as a damage soak.

So, I finally pulled the trigger on endgame stuff for two of my characters, the githyanki wizard and durge monk. I put off my githyanki fighter/cleric ending because I was hoping that there might be a future hotfix that would allow her to raise the gith egg with her romance, Gale. But that seems less and less likely, so I'll get to it soon anyway. i.imgur.com/j2AnpB9.jpegi.imgur.com/CsCesNM.jpegi.imgur.com/8ywICyi.jpegAr'rusyr convinced Lae'zel to stay in Faerun, which meant Orpheus killed himself right then and there. If he hadn't been so damn dramatic, she would have told him that they might take to the Astral Sea again eventually...but oh well. Now, there's a gith baby to raise together and she doesn't regret that for a second. Lae'zel is the proudest mom, it's so cute. i.imgur.com/QJACWkR.jpegi.imgur.com/zxfwC3k.jpegi.imgur.com/OR8l7pW.jpegi.imgur.com/7XRT5Em.jpegT'riss chose to help Astarion with all the vampire spawn in the Underdark, but in my head that and 'look for a way to help him walk in the sunlight again' are essentially the same path. They'll just start underground first, that's all. I love the closure she got at the end, finally free of all puppet strings.

Yeah, in some ways I felt like I was just giving myself an escort mission in the middle of a fight. In the courtyard battle, I was more eager to see what my allies could do. So I wound up summoning a few - Aylin, Yurgir, Chonky, and...? But no troops like the Harpers or the Guard. I figured they would be too hard to protect.
I didn't use summons on the stairs either - just run-n-gunned it.
I'm pretty sure it was Rolan I used on the dragon as well, Voss on the line of enemies in front of the dragon, Murder Cow, and...?

And finally... The Finale... Part I. Well, I managed to get to shore (somehow) in full plate armor and packing several hundred pounds of gear and loot. (I assume I just trudged along the bottom.)Time to pat ourselves on the back! "Standing"... is a bit generous. This place got romped. Orpheus didn't waste any time bringing the mood back down again. I'm feeling some DA Déjà Vu here... But wait, the mood turns again. This is a fortuitous turn of events for Lae'zel, who quickly proves that she's going to walk away the Big Winner from all of this. Astarion seemed happy though he had to make a rather speedy departure. (Though I noticed not a soul lifted finger to help.) And then, the mood came right around again. Karlach. So the three of us wind up taking an unscheduled-and-extended-vacation to ever-picturesque Avernus.

Clearing up a bunch of miscellaneous Act 1 stuff. Turns out that attacking Lunk strictly from upstairs isn't nearly as clever as I thought it was.

Clearing up a bunch of miscellaneous Act 1 stuff. Turns out that attacking Lunk strictly from upstairs isn't nearly as clever as I thought it was. You have to have a stealthy person do that. Rogue or Gloomstalker probably. Do it solo with a bow and you can take out all three of them without getting attacked at all. I had Astarion do it yesterday.

So some Alice posting. Act 2 spoilers. Had a fantastic session yesterday. Managed to thin out the tower pretty easily so that I was just left with the main hall people and the people in the sleeping quarters. Even made some good sales with Tarv. Good times. Dealt with the Thorm siblings, diplomatically, which is always fun. Saw the white Raven pop up to push me to He-Who-Was after I found the ledger, which was neat. You know, just a great, successful, fine session.
Todays session...started out fantastic. Had the easiest time yet with the Shadow Portal, even managed to stop Halsin from ending himself by dashing into the Wall of Fire after the cutscene. Had way better time with Oliver, actually paying mind to the first shadow I killed each turn so I didn't choke my party with his legendary action. Murdered Balthazar and even tricked him into giving me his haste potion before the battle, so no speedy dead man for me.
So feeling pretty good. Cocky even. So decide to chat to Isobel. And haven't been sticking my foot in my mouth this run so was feeling kinda catty, so when she threw a hissy fit over Alice and Marcus mind talk I ended up picking "Say Nothing". Because in my head it was just a nice F-U to both of them. But no. "Say Nothing" means "I'm siding with Marcus" and Isobel goes hostile. And if you have been reading the earlier posts, I have already saved Wulbren and the tieflings, I have Dammon and Barrcus in the camp, Rolan is there too. I don't freaking want them to die. So fine. I kill Marcus and the Winged Horrors, ignoring Isobel's pathetic attempt at trying to pick a fight. Then I leave the inn without killing or knocking her out, since I just freaking knew some hidden Winged Horror understudy would pop in if I did that. So figure I'll have a blast in the Throne Room later.
Go to sleep, tell Fel to climb back into his hole, don't stab Astarion a million times and try to pick the least remorseful option I have.
Then go to see the Nightsong and as I enter her prison Alice get's super inspired, including "Forced Retirement". Isobel you dumb twit what did you do? So let Shadowheart get the spear yeeting out of her system, leave the prison and go to Last Light. There I am greeted by exp Shadow cursed Harpers and Wines. Save then from their curse and enter the inn. Everyone I spent time saving is dead. Barcus, Wulbren, my freaking Runepowder bomb. Gone.
Go to the upper floor and see that someone has murdered Isobel. Speak to the Dead did not reveal the killer. But I know it wasn't Alice, since she was in another plane of existence all together. And I don't think it's Fel, but like, could be. Either way I'm feeling pretty peeved so leaving Kethric for another day. Figure the Avatar of Myrkul will end the honor run as usual, but still, want to put up a fight at least so want to enter with a clear mind and as many smokepowder bombs as I can muster because I will be going out with a bang, not a whimper.

I didn't even think of that. Which is weird because I just did that to most of the remnant at the Goblin Camp. But whatever -- as often happens, the screwup was more entertaining anyway.

"I talk to dead people" "How often?" "All the time" Maybe someone should have had a bath before trying to usurp a Grove? Probably the main reason Kahga sided with me over them was the smell. She looks like the sort that would be obsessive about cleanliness, at least in others. The Descent Possibly my favourite way into the Underdark. Of course I had killed all the Zhents by that time, but not before giving them the unopened chest. That meant the trader had good gear to drop when he died. +1 Chain at 4th level? Lae'zel says thanks, or would if she was the kind of gal to say thanks about anything. Why did I give him that? Now he's listening to the voices. Nothing good can come of this.

And finally... The Finale... Final Part. Reunion time for our Merry(-ish) Band! Courtesy of Jer... Withers. Well, there's at least one constant in the universe - Volo remains Volo. Shadowheart's self-awareness does her credit. Looks like Wyll got beaten by the fashion stick as I did. And it seems I was able to get the 'Gale Cured" ending as well. The Big Winner of Baldur's Gate managed to gain some self-awareness as well. A duck...? Everyone else seems to be doing just fine... I wondered who that rando bard was... And finally, Karlach. It looks as though she'll get her happy ending as well. Eventually. All-in-all, it was a nice, little wrap-up, including the letters & news clippings sent to us. Disappointed we didn't hear from Dame Aylin or Isobel though. And it was a bit odd having Withers toast us at the end, but I'll take it. And with the post-credit scene - We're done!

Well, now I can step back and say... I had fun with this one. When I played Pillars of Eternity, I thought it would put me off isometric RPGs for good. But this (and Pathfinder: WotR) turned me around on them again. Amelia Tyler's narration (and her brilliant YT clips) really helped carry this game. I wish her all the success going forward. Not the best-ever cast of characters, but solid overall. I do wish we had a fully-voiced protag (as their silence does stands out) but I was fine with it. The art team did a great job here, and the modders will take it to the next level. The UI could use some help in places, but I'm glad we had the Early Access period to smooth out some of the rough spots (and there were many). The camera system though... needs help. That was my biggest gripe with the game. And this game still has a ton of bugs to iron out. Having played a little of Act I again, I think they've actually introduced new bugs. The builds you can make in this game are also a big part of the fun. I've already experimented with a couple of Bard-based multiclasses (Bard dialogue options have been fun), but I don't think I'll make another Full PT for a while. This game is just too damn long! Overall, I'd give BG3 an... 8.5/10(with a ton of replay value!)
