Although Anya is a good actress, I still think that she's too young for the role. A more mature look would give more force to the character. idk maybe I just like older women and the low tone of game Yen's voice. I believe the books mention that she looks around 20 actually. It's the game that made her much older-looking.

So got to watch the first three episodes last night and enjoyed them, but how people can like that song is beyond me it is in my opinion terrible. I love the song - a nice, catchy tune. Plus the actor does an awesome job in actually playing the lute and singing. He learned playing the lute during a production of the Royal Shakespeare Company, I bet, he is glad now, that he can use that talent in the show. He also has a great singing voice. I heard a lot of cover of 'Toss a coin to your Witcher' and while those people are mostly very talented, none of them reach Joey Bateys voice imo.
But tastes are different, the friends, whom I showed the Witcher, weren't that investetd in the song either

When I played the song to my sister, her only reaction was Cassandra's disgusted noise. I made her listen a second time though, trying to tell her that it gets better the more often you hear it. "WTF is wrong with you?" was her answer the second time around as she gently shooed me away.

I liked it more than I thought I would.
Still think Geralt, Yennefer and Triss are miscast.

So finished watching the series and I liked it more than expected. As per Treacherous J Slither I think in particular Triss is terribly miscast, not that she is bad she just doesn't isn't great and still doesn't gel rightly or wrongly for me with the games representation of her. Cavill in parts is great and others he just doesn't look right but Yennefer I thought was OK. Can someone explain to me who the the woman is that comes to Geralt in the vision after he's bitten in the dead campsite by Nekkers (I think)? I have an idea but its so long since I read the book, can't be sure.

In the story, she happens to be the healer on hand when Geralt needs treatment from the necrophage bite.

I don't get all the hate for Triss. I really like her in the show. I'm not the biggest fan of Yennefer though, but I don't like her much in the books either. So that hasn't much to do with the actress.

I know Triss from TW3 only and I always felt she was a bit out of place in that world. Everything about her appearance seems artificial to me: the way she dresses, her ridiculous hair (the style, mostly), her demeanour in general. I really appreciate that the show didn't forcibly let her stand out like that - she fits into the show world they created much better. Apart from that, I still think Triss didn't really have enough screen time to tell whether she'd be a good fit for the character or not. Maybe we'll get more of her in season 2? I think that could be quite interesting.

I’m sort of indifferent to show Triss.
I was a bit skeptical of the casting for Geralt and Yennefer too, but Henry and Anya’s performances have put those concerns to rest. I haven’t been wowed or disappointed with show Triss yet.

Honestly, Triss is a pretty minor character, she might not be in that many episodes anyway. This, and i hope Hissrich doesn't insert the character into more scenes, just because. The character is supposed to be the youngest of the sorceresses but looks like a 40 year old chain smoker despite the actress being 27 years old, and creating inconsistency with the casting of Yennefer whose actress looks 2 decades younger. If they remake the Matrix she would make a good Oracle.

The final battle bugs me. There are just so many weird decisions. Yen stealing Triss' thunder as the fire mage is annoying enough, but the whole "fire magic is forbidden" thing makes no sense. Lightning is far more dangerous and unpredictable than fire is, and fooling around with that is part of the regular mage initiation process.
And it's a huge missed opportunity. There are two big problems the mages can't seem to figure out all throughout the battle: being where they're needed when they're needed there in response to the Nilfgaardians' tactics, and getting out of tight spots before it's too late. Positioning is one of the most vital aspects of any large skirmish, and even more important in pitched battles. And Yennefer's super special natural talent throughout the whole season has been portals.
Hello?
Yen could have made a ridiculous difference moving the different mages around strategically, moving ranged attackers to high ground and flanking positions while evacuating those in trouble to reinforce each other. How damn cool would that battle sequence have been? Keeping an overview and maintaining communications is important too, but it's a really boring job for the protagonist and something almost any of the others could have done. And nobody except Triss seems to listen to her in any case.
She spends most of the battle observing and reacting to their various deaths while begging them to move to new positions even though they're already entrenched, while being uniquely situated to just go and take them there herself.
Also, Vilgefortz comes across more like a good soldier with one magical trick than a great wizard with military training and experience. Using his magical power to teleport/recreate his sword seems like a weird thing to specialize in. You're far more likely to be skewered than disarmed in any sword fight, and when someone disarms you several times in succession then continuing to engage them is idiotic. That magical energy would have been better spent enhancing his fighting in other ways to avoid getting disarmed by more skilled opponents in the first place.

And they talk about how young she looks and it causes her credibility issues. I am not sure if I am remembering right but is Triss one of the only mages that doesn't use magic to make he self look younger and prettier?

I hope, we will see a lot of Triss and I really don't think, she looks old. Even though she's wearing concealer the creases under her eyes, and her nasolabial folds are still prominent. Remove the concealer and those age lines become even more prominent. The real issue with the casting is that Triss looks older than Yennefer. The final battle bugs me. There are just so many weird decisions. Yen stealing Triss' thunder as the fire mage is annoying enough, but the whole "fire magic is forbidden" thing makes no sense. That magical energy would have been better spent enhancing his fighting in other ways to avoid getting disarmed by more skilled opponents in the first place. The non sensical writing behind the strategies employed, or lack of, during the battle of Sodden Hill reminds of the horrid writing involved in GoT's Battle of the Bastards. Both of those scenes highlight their respective writing teams' limitations. About the Triss/Yennefer switch, Vilgefortz fighting skills, the show's writing team changing key details to suit their whims will only lead to future inconsistencies that i'm afraid they aren't perceptive enough to avoid. After what Cahir did to Vilgefortz the latter's infamous battle at Stygga castle will look improbable, and now there's the unintentional hyping of Leo's sword skills to near comical levels. Also, i wonder how Cahir's redemption arc, if there is one, will pan out after Hissrich turned him into a one dimensional evil badguy who slaughters civilians with no hesitation. If we still don't see Vilgefortz fighting with a quarterstaff in the future then there will be problems.

the whole "fire magic is forbidden" thing makes no sense. Lightning is far more dangerous and unpredictable than fire is, and fooling around with that is part of the regular mage initiation process. Yen made clear when she was teaching Ciri that fire was the most dangerous element. It's what Ciri called on that eventually led to her burning out her power, so to speak.

I also blinked a moment when the Nilfgaardians' "religious fanaticism" suddenly came up, even though we know that what drives them is love for their Emperor personally, and the prophecy. Like making Cahir a creepy-looking manbaby, just another attempt to exploit modern politics to pointlessly demonize the villains without backing it up one inch with quality writing.

I will reserve judgements about Cahir and Nilfgaard until season 2. Since I have just started the book series and Nilfgaard wasn't really brought up yet, I don't know, how much the show changed. And imo there is not much to go on yet about their motivations apart from a few hints. Plus they are really cruel, not taking prisoners, Fringilla forcing other sorcerers to sacrifice themselves etc. Are they like that in the books and/or the games?
