Hey, Marius is back.
The gang just grew in size.
I also didn't fail to notice that panel where it said "The city now known as Ventus."
Depending on how the name change is handled in the future, I can work with this.

Looks good but i have one big problem which i hope won´t be an issue for the whole series. Sorry but i don´t like the portrait of the Qunari. I really don´t want to see them only as the bad guys. So my hope for the future is that the comic party will interact with more friendly Qunari. Maybe Tallis? The Qunari are not the villains of this mini. But they are an obstacle, and a dangerous one. They're an invading force, taking over a mageocracy, when their feelings on magic are extreme enough as to put all mages in great peril. That invasion, like the battle in Kirkwall, means that the Qunari are mostly going to be perceived as dangerous, and in need of fighting, just to stay alive. Again, they're not the villains nor the main opposition. But we're writing a story about our characters clashing with Venatori in a Tevinter that is under siege. The Qunari's main purpose for us as writers is to have them mess with everyone's plans - hero and villain alike. so the Elgar'nan elf is gonna go against Fenris' trust and advice and betray him as an ally by going to Nenealeus to be trained as an elven perrepatae huh That certainly seems to be the case, doesn’t it…? there's that coffin-like artifact from the cover of number 2 Yep. And with a careful read of the preview pages, you may get a theory of what it is and does… Hey, Marius is back. The gang just grew in size. There's a real challenge in writing a group this big in a three issue mini. So we split the group up and kept most of the focus on one half of the cast. But we kept the others in the mini, both to keep that half of the story alive, and to advance those characters as best we could while focusing elsewhere. I also didn't fail to notice that panel where it said "The city now known as Ventus." Depending on how the name change is handled in the future, I can work with this. Of course, the real trick is... if the city has fallen to the Qunari, does it matter what it's called?

Yep. And with a careful read of the preview pages, you may get a theory of what it is and does… I have formed one. The device is what Denarius used to give Fenris his power and now his son wants to do the same to other fighters/elves but this time using red lyrium. Something along those lines anyway.

I guess it depends how often the city is going to be referenced in the future, like in games and such? (not that I personally mind the name-change - we do it IRL, so why not in stories) I mean, we're so focused on stories of this small group of characters that it may be somewhat easy to overlook that - via these comic books - we're witnessing a super-important event from canon and lore perspective: which is Qunari getting serious about conquering Tevinter and actually... well, doing that. And quite swiftly and brutally it seems. Of course, this only confirms my suspicions that we'll probably spend most of our time as players holed up in Minrathous, which may stay either one of the few or the only un-conquered patch of Tevinter, once DA4 finally rolls up on stage. So... do go on Yep. And with a careful read of the preview pages, you may get a theory of what it is and does… I have formed one. The device is what Denarius used to give Fenris his power and now his son wants to do the same to other fighters/elves but this time using red lyrium. Something along those lines anyway. I think I agree with you, as I've had suspicions of that kind before.

And with a careful read of the preview pages, you may get a theory of what it is and does… That's worth a big thonk moment by my reckoning. At least that means there's a chance for the Magekiller protagonists to shine more, even if only for brief moments. They always had potential in my eyes, and as long as they keep showing up, I'm happy. thonks hard on that

I have formed one. The device is what Denarius used to give Fenris his power and now his son wants to do the same to other fighters/elves but this time using red lyrium. Something along those lines anyway. That is an excellent theory. There are more pieces to the puzzle in the story, but everything in your guess is part of our story. I mean, we're so focused on stories of this small group of characters that it may be somewhat easy to overlook that - via these comic books - we're witnessing a super-important event from canon and lore perspective: which is Qunari getting serious about conquering Tevinter and actually... well, doing that. And quite swiftly and brutally it seems. Of course, this only confirms my suspicions that we'll probably spend most of our time as players holed up in Minrathous, which may stay either one of the few or the only un-conquered patch of Tevinter, once DA4 finally rolls up on stage. So... do go on Can't speak to DA4 and where it'll start, but Christina Weir (she started an account here, but I have such a big mouth she hasn't needed to reply to anything) and I have been very excited to be able to put as big a piece of lore as this invasion into our stories. Each time we write in a city falling, that is run past Bioware (as part of the entire scripts), so as the invasion spreads, we're putting it into canon, putting cities into the stories and having that get lore approval. OR the artifact may have been powered by lyrium, but someone got the idea that the more potent red lyrium can make it even more powerful. Or something very much like that... At least that means there's a chance for the Magekiller protagonists to shine more, even if only for brief moments. They always had potential in my eyes, and as long as they keep showing up, I'm happy. This mini focuses on other characters, but will touch base with the characters who are away from the spotlight. But one name in the preview pages should make it clear that somewhere down the line... Marius is going to have to stare down his past.

There may come a day where she will have to take a life, and certainly, she’s being put into situations that make that day more and more likely to come. But today is not that day.

Do people really review, like professionally, single issues of comics? There is usually so little that happens in one issue, and they are so short, the review probably comes out longer than what they are reviewing!

There is usually so little that happens in one issue, and they are so short, the review probably comes out longer than what they are reviewing! There are sites that do a lot of reviews of comics, and a fair number of those reviews are for single issues. With the decompression of storytelling in the last few decades, sometimes there isn't a ton of story in an individual issue, that much is true. But if we write them right (and sometimes we don't), there should be enough story in a single issue to entertain. And so that's probably enough to review.

I see the comics as an anthology series with some good material.
My question is "how much of the mini material will be included in the game main story arc ?". I can only see these as a side quest of some kind.

I can't speak to what's going to be in the game. I can tell you that if we write something that doesn't fit with what they're planning for the world (which I always take to mean what they're planning for the game), they'll suggest something different. And I can tell you that on a handful of occasions, they've specifically asked us to include something or mention something to set something up for them down the line. Sometimes what they need set up changes, and I take that to mean their game plans are changing accordingly. But we never think of it as setting something up so that it'll directly appear in the game. We think of it more like readying the world-state for what they need going forward. As to the anthology point, I'd say that the comics as viewed from a larger scale have a certain anthology feeling to them. But our miniseries are chained together for one bigger serialized tale. That tale, in our case, is focused on Vaea & Ser Aaron's mission, with each mini moving that mission forward and sometimes focusing the spotlight on others who might join them or give them assistance along the way.

Deception and Blue Wraith only have six issues between them. We'd need one more miniseries to make for a decent sized Library Edition Volume 3...

In Blue Wraith, Weir and DeFilippis match Fenris with comics-original characters Francesca — a Tevinter mage — and Vaea, an Elven squire. “[Fenris and Francesca] each will change the other,” Weir says. “With Vaea in the middle, trying to keep them from killing each other.” lol at Vaea having to play mediator.
