My usual recurring one has me back at school. I need to get to a specific class, but I cannot find the classroom, I don't have a timetable, have no idea what class I'm supposed to be attending, and haven't a clue where I'm supposed to be - I just know I have to be there right now, else I'll get into trouble for being late. I wonder around empty corridors forever, getting increasingly anxious about being late, trying to locate the right classroom by pure trial and error, occasionally peeking into classroom, to find then either empty or filled with strangers who stare at me with silent, hostile eyes.
But the most terrifying nightmare I have ever had in my entire life took place a few years ago, but I still remember it vividly. It was classic 'wake up screaming, panicking and thrashing around' material.
I'm at home, in the kitchen, and the window looks out onto the street, except I can't see out of the window because a sea of faces is pressed against it. There's a massive, seething, swell of silent, ominous people pressed right up against the glass, their eyes staring at me, and all of their faces look broadly the same, with similar hollow-set cheeks, and black, sunken eyes.
I go into the living room, and it's the same, the same sea of people pressing their faces to the glass, staring at me in silence.
And it's the same in every room in the house, no matter where I go.
I can't really explain why this dream was so utterly terrifying at the time, but it really was.
I'm actually quite prone to nightmares, and wake up screaming my head off and thrashing about far too often, once I even managed to injure myself by leaping out of the bed and landing on some exercise equipment I keep next to it. Most of the time I have no memory of the dream immediately after waking, which is probably a mercy. Not that one though - I still remember it as clear as day.

I recognize this dream. I've had pretty much exactly the same dream many years ago. Though I actually eventually found the right room. But when I did, I had already missed half of it, and to add humiliation I also discovered I was emptyhanded and did not have any material or books.

A couple of nights ago, I had this dream where I had agreed to travel with some friends out to the country for a couple of days. I don't know why, but it seems I was under the impression it would maybe be fishing or hunting or whiskey'ing about some work or hobbies.
My, actually our, first disappointment was that only four of us turned up. Apparently we had expected a bigger party. My own personal disappointment was that I now, for the first time, learned that we were going to rebuild a couple of old historical buildings which had burned down. ' OMG, this is going to take a lot longer than a couple of days, long arduous days of manual labor. I'm too old for that ', I thought silently. I was desperately trying to come up with some excuse and leave, but in the end I respected the guys too much to abandon them, so I figured I'd just have to try to endure.
Then it got more logical why I was there. I had apparently invented this wood dispenser that was unloaded at the place. It was loaded with a big roll of plywood, maybe 7 feet wide and more than 10 feet in diameter. The plywood was maybe half an inch thick, maybe thinner. You dialed in the piece of wood you wanted and the computer controlled machine would spit it out in no time. Laser cut. The plywood stock would roll out and in during the cutting. For thicker pieces, like 3X4 spars, the machine would laminate together several cut pieces. And everything would come out straight, as by magic, not curved from the roll. So I was needed to take care of the machine. ' Good, maybe I could then avoid some of the heavier work ', I thought.
And then I woke up, very relieved to not have to do any work, but now instead wondering why a historical building would be rebuilt entirely in plywood?

Bi/Multilingual people, do you dream in your native tongue 100% or once you started learning a new language did you ever have dreams in that? I found this question interesting, but for other reasons and the follow up questions that manifested themselves. I don't know if I can call myself multilingual exactly, I don't. But I can "get by" in 6 languages. When I considered your question, I came to the conviction that 'language' is mostly not anything that is present in my dreams. !?! Not even when I had that weird dream, of my family that wasn't my family wanting to kill me and forced me to travel to Iceland in a coffin. I never noticed that people spoke Icelandic (I don't speak or understand Icelandic and I've never been to Iceland). Language was never an issue. I have no idea what language we used. And thinking back, I think the same goes for all my dreams. While I do know German, and have been to Germany, and have dreamed about being in Germany, same thing. I can't remember German language ever having been a thing in such dreams. There is communication, but no language. I have however dreamed about not being able to communicate clearly, as if I didn't knew the language well, but have no idea what the language was supposed to be. I have also quite clear memories of having said things in an incomprehensible tongue, shouting phrases, so clearly that I could write them down when I woke up. But though I had some idea from the dream, about what it meant, I could not link it to any language I know. All of which inspired me to widen the question. When I was younger, my sister made me aware of that there were people who only dreamed in B&W. I wasn't sure it was true for a while, but later read about it and also learned that the number of people who dreamed in B&W dwindled and was connected to when they were born. Hypothesis being only some people who had grown up with B&W TV and movies would dream in B&W. That's probably it. Then we have the question of the senses. First time I encountered this question - which senses do you have in a dream - I was unsure if I dreamed about taste and smell. Later however, I was able to note that could taste things in a dream, though rarely, and then typically like drinking fresh cold water, dry red wine, or cold beer. Even more rare, smells, and only flowery perfumes, forest, cut grass, sandy ocean beach, and rock/feldspar (yes, it smells). I don't think I've ever dreamed about any unpleasant or foul smell. Closest would be oily harbor water. Which seems weird. Not even mountains of rotting corpses in the sun smell. They're completely odorless in my dreams. In reality, smells like that change your smelling sense, if you get strong exposure for a long time. They start to smell much less and they smell differently but still unpleasant. Same thing with pain actually. I can feel things but I don't think I ever feel pain in my dreams. Anyway, I can say all five senses are active in my dreams, but taste and smell rather sparingly.

Very vivid but weird dream last night had multiple strange components. Including a rare thing for me, the dream last night referenced an earlier dream I had years ago, like out of the blue. I had basically forgotten all about this earlier dream and all of a sudden I am referring to it in a conversation in the dream last night.

Son of Dorn would get a massive kick out of this dream. Yes it is a Warhammer 40k/Mass Effect/Real world crossover dream. I was converted into my online BSN name and tasked to deliver a WMD to a Reaper Superstructure at Russia. Well Enroute to Russia, There was several portals open up. Several Imperial Titans and support Astarte teams with infantry appeared in Russia and Reaper Superstructure started firing on the Titans and their forces and they fired back in full force and Astarte teams were fighting the Reaper Husks in Massive. While the Titans overwhelm the Reaper Superstructure's shields and team of Ogryn, Sister of Battle and Krieg went into the Reaper Superstructure in order to destroy it from the inside.
i was watching from a cerberus shuttle within this dream and weirded out with the ordeal

Had kind of a weird dream a week or two ago. Normally, at the first iota of a nightmare I go lucid. This dream I was in I was running and hiding in a suburban setting at night (no stars in the sky) from creatures that were as black as the sky, shaped like giant bug-like monsters. Yet there wasn't any fear, at all. Not like I was a passenger, it was dream-me, but the situation wasn't frightening. But it really ought to've been. For a brief moment I went lucid. I was hiding behind a fence while they were all streaming into the well-lit house I was next to. Realized this was a nightmare, and half-lucidly wondered why I wasn't lucid. (Very weird thought.) Meanwhile my PoV started kinda going third person and I looked at myself crouching behind the fence thinking, then at the monsters streaming next to me. If you're a well-read fantasy nerd these things were kind of like what I think the Vord warriors looked like in Codex Alera, mixed with the inky shadowy creatures that attacked in dreams/desolations in Sanderson's Stormlight Archive. Inky black, massive and beetle-like alien hulks, mixed with slightly smaller more arachnid-type monsters. Amongst others. Completely in silhouette, no features, almost two-dimensional they were so black, but also clearly not. Funny thing is I realized I wasn't afraid so I didn't need to stay lucid, this was all fine. Running from monsters was kinda entertaining. Or at the very least not something I was concerned about. So... I stopped being (half)lucid and went back into the dream for a bit. lol. Dunno when was the last time I voluntarily stopped being lucid in a dream. Can't remember much anymore of before and after it now, but the brief lucid part I remember like I was awake and it was yesterday. That's par for the course though, the way I know I'm lucid now is things seem to start recording in my conscious memory instead of that dream memory that's hard to access unless I'm tired. Fuckin' weird. *** Speaking of memory...
Anyone else notice you can remember landscapes better the dream you had it in? (In general, not lucidly.)

I've had dreams where I get smacked hard across the face/head with something like a 2x4 and (in relaity) I litterally feel and hear my back teeth EXPLODE....I wake up screaming, grabbing my jaw and then frantically run to the bathroom to look in the mirror...desperately trying to see if my tooth is missing or if it is still in my jaw. And my jaw actually hurts. It takes me a good 20 minutes of staring at a mirror and feeling around in my mouth to realize that it was just a dream.
March 3rd Update: I spoke to my Dental Hygenist back in February at my last appointment about this exact thing....And after she stopped laughing (not in a rude way), she told me that "you are the 3rd person I've seen this week who has told me they've been woken up from dreams about their teeth....teeth falling out, teeth breaking, teeth strangely missing.....I don't know why but it is a very common thing to have dreams about your teeth. Don't worry, you're not the only one."

I have been playing too many hours of video games lately. I've had a few dreams (aka nightmares) recently of video game creatures. A few days ago I had a very vivid vampire dream which was scared the heck out of me then last night I had one even worse. A dream with a Mass effect 3 Banshee in it, Now, in me3mp you face Banshees all the time, you take them on kill them no big deal but the dream was as if there was a real life Banshee, it was in a theater or auditorium and moved around much like a level of me3mp but it was real and scared the hell out of me. When I woke I was drenched in sweat. Really awful.

This Banhsee was not the cute cuddly banshee we all know form me3mp this was the real thing, scary as hell. sounds like my mass effect dreams. Reaper Husks within my dreams are quite scary, the type of scary that you run away from fast. I had a few dragon age dreams as well. they are intense as well. Also seeing an mountain size Dragon in the distance is one of them. Some of my Dragon Age dreams have some humor. For example, imagine a little girl on a mabari warhound shooting fireballs at the darkspawn at full bore(the comedic fast) In my dreams, Between being a Grey warden vs a Cerberus Phantom, I prefer the Grey Warden despite the dreams of Darkspawn and Archdemon.

So the other night I had this dream in which I saw a comic strip in a magazine or paper. There's this guy who's going to bed, in striped pajama. But before he does, he goes to the bathroom to have a leak. So out of his hose comes this hail stream of cats. Yes the animal, the pet, cat. They're small first, when coming out, but grow to normal size during their trajectory. (For some reason this guy pees in a high parable.) The cats, now full size and many scores of them, deftly lands on their feet and run away in all directions. The man returns to the bedroom and his spouse, his face motionless and sleepy. Then he comments: "I hate cat piss".
In the dream I found it very funny, hilarious even. When I woke up,.. well, I still think it's slightly funny. Is it?

DREAMS
Apr 10, 2024 2:03:48 GMT
Post by B. Hieronymus Da on Apr 10, 2024 2:03:48 GMT
This last night I had a dream, right out of the blue, after decades, no warning, about four nurses.
The circumstances were confused as usual, but as the dream had progressed that far, I was in some sort of social gathering, reception or party. One woman suddenly approached me and asked me if I remembered four blond nurses. "-What?" Well, she continued, don't you remember four nurses? Shouldn't you remember four nurses? she said smiling. I didn't knew what she meant and pretended to think while I considered how to respond. Tell me the names of some nurses you know of, she said, still in good mood. Surely you remember them. "But why should some nurses remember me? Nurses have lots of patients, but patients have only a few nurses." She ignored my logic and again asked me to try to remember a name. And going back in time I found that I did remember a face and a name that belonged to it. "Mary" I suggested tentatively. That's one, she said triumphantly. Another? "Louise" See, you do remember. They're all here and want to see you. I recalled yet another name, and then they were there, coming into the big room behind the woman. All four of them. Great looking ladies, ageing marking their faces, but all of them recognizable. And for some reason they recognized me and knew who I was. I didn't feel so good, concerned about the impression I would make. What were they thinking about the old wreck they had in front of them? And I couldn't for my life remember the name of the fourth. I knew her name. I knew I did. She had been my favorite. An odd name. It was just on the threshold, but refusing to pop up in my mind. We shook hands and started talking. The woman who had approached me and produced them, mingled and disappeared among the guests.
I woke up, and I still couldn't remember the fourth's name. It'll probably come to me during the day, I figured, but it still hasn't. maybe tomorrow.
So why do things like this suddenly emerge in my head? If someone had asked me to remember any name of any nurse from way back during my hospitalizations, my mind would have been completely blank. So how can I now remember them in a dream? And not only that but their faces too? And the only one I can't remember is the one that was my favorite? The mind is weird. I remember she had a name I had always previously thought was ugly And now, writing these words I suddenly remember: Ursula.
