Were you sad about Karl dying? What's your opinion of Aveline so far? I once read a fan comic that said, "That day I lost Carver/Bethany and gained a sister that same day." I found it very touching. Karl wanting to die a mage and not Tranquil was very sad. I convinced Anders to grant him his wish. As for Aveline: I love her, she is my tank and has saved me many times. I also like her as a person. The Wesley death scene was sad too. Come to think of it, so far there have been so many sad moments in the game. It's possibly the saddest of the Trilogy. People dying is a bit of a trend. Some of it, you can avoid by making strong friendships with your companions. Other deaths are completely unavoidable and even knowing that, they can hit the hardest. My biggest tip to you is that once you get a few companions friend/rival bar close to max or max, switch out for another to start working on them. THINK ABOUT WHO YOU ARE BRINGING WHERE. There are characters that are obviously pro mage and some that are obviously anti mage. So if the quest is like, "GO help some mages!" ya know...don't bring the mage hater. haha. Isabella is important to focus on before end of Act 2 and Varric will pretty much be your bud no matter what, so you don't have to worry about him much. I think the sibling always had similar devotion. And if you have Sebastian, well, I'd also say don't worry about him. haha.

So Hawke, Bethany, Aveline, and Anders. They went to Lowtown at night to find Donnic. They ran into a dwarf named Anso. He told them about some thugs who stole something from him. Hawke agrees and goes to the abandoned house. Once inside the group is attacked by some thugs. After dispatching them she sees a chest. Once she opens it she finds that it is empty. Perplexed the group leaves to go outside. Once outside they are attcked by another group of thugs. The group defeats them and heads towards Anso. Around the corner they run into a thug who calls for backup. His second in command stumbles and falls to the ground. An unusual elf appears and kills the leader. He introduces himself to Hawke and crew and says his name is Fenris. He explains to them how he was a Tevinter slave. He said that his former master was looking for him, and if the group would help him. Hawke agrees and Fenris says to meet him at night in Hightown. Afterwards Hawke and crew head for Donnic, they find him and a group of thugs, The thugs attack and Hawke and crew defeats them. Aveline rushes to Donnics side and helps him stand up. He tells her how grateful he is that she and her allies came in time. He also said that the guard captain sent him on patrol alone. Infuriated Aveline decides to confront the guard captain. But first Hawke decides to go to Hightown to meet Isabella. Some thugs quickly attack and the group of heroes dispatches them. Hawke greets Isabella and tells her that her opponent is inside the Chantry. They are attacked by another wave of thugs and are met with the same result. Once inside they are immediately attacked, once Isabella kills her opponent she talks to Hawke. She teels Hawke that the cargo was slaves and that Castillon was looking for a relic. She will join the group, and will be at the Hanged Man bar. Hawke goes to the bar and tells them about a potential job. She tells them to speak to a patron around in the backrooms. Hawke goes to the backroom and the patron tells Hawke about a stolen cargo. Hawke accepts the job and leaves the bar. Hawke then realized she never delivered the amulet Flemeth gave her to the Dalish elves. She stes out to Sundermount where they are attacked by the undead, The group destroys them and head towards the camp. They are met by two elves who would not permit them, when Hawke explains that she was tasked to deliver the amulet to the Keeper they let her in. The keeper greets them and tells Hawke that she must deliver the amulet to an alter and say the rites. Hawkes asks her for the rite and she tells them about her apprentice Merrill, and that she was up along the mountain path. She told them that Merrill knows the rites. Hawke and crew leave to the mountain were they are greeted by Merrill. Nervously she introduces herself and talks a bit about herself. Hawke asks why she left the clan, and she says she rather not speak about it. They continue along the path killing undead, when they see a cave. Once inside they are attacked by giant spiders. They kill the spidders and leave the cave through the back entrance. Hawke sees the altar but it is blocked by a ward, Merrill tells them that she will unlock it. She cuts her hand and uses blood magic to open the path. Bethany tells her that Merrill had summoned a spirit. Hawke demands to know how could Merrill summon such a dangerous creature. Anders tell her that she is playing with forbidden magic. She tells Hawke that not all spirits are demons, and cautions them about potential danger up ahead. They are attacked by undead a demon. The group destroys them and Hawke places the amulet on the altar. Once on the altar magic begins to swirl all around and Flemeth appears out of the amulet. Merrill bows and Flemeth and Hawke speak at length about why she needed Hawke to deliver the amulet. She turns into a dragon and flys away. The group and Merrillhead back to the camp and depart ways from the Keeper. The group drops Merrill off at the elven alienage in Lowtown. She tells Hawk that she can visit her anytime. Hawke reassures her that she will and that Merill would not be alone.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Now you for Fenris, my favorite of the game. And it's interesting to see that you yelled at Merrill about demons but then promised o meet her anyway. I'm guessing ou didn't bring Fenris to the top of the mountain? Interesting stuff tween him and Flemeth.
Also, dunno if you got the elf root round the entrance to the Dalish camp. But instead of collecting a million elfroot in this game, out find it once and use it over and over at home at the potion station. I recommend going to grab it or it'll make you low on money later if you keep having to buy potions from merchants

Sounds like a better mechanics... if you could find all the mats. I have never did. Merrill is such an odd character. Totally innocent on one hand, and completely blissfully dancing into the most cursed magic out there...

I like DA2 "crafting" system, fit my lazy playstyle.

Yeah, I prefer resource gathering in DA2, as well, compared to DAI. It's less tedious, but you do need to be careful to check every nook and cranny, because if you miss a resource, it may not still be there later in the game.

That my party can't keep up. As for the elfroot: Yes! I did collect it, I search everywhere in this game. I'm glad to hear you only need one, unlike DAI. Well last night I started the "Wayward Son" quest, and felt bad for the female apostate who turned into a demon. I picked up the letter from her corpse and brought it to her father. I went to Darktown I think it was, and met Danzig. He and his group over powered my group. Hawke has been getting knocked unconscious a lot lately, she's usually the first. But I enjoy the challenge. I just which it was one wave of enemies instead of two.

The herbs are on Sundermount outside, (although spindelweed may be in the Alienage) the mushroom is in Darktown, the Lyrium is going to be in caves. The dragon's blood only come from fighting the optional dragon in Act 3, I believe, but it makes a "bring you back to life" potion or something. This material makes runes, potions, and grenades. But if you don't get them from each act, they dissapear in the next act. But you only have to collect once

Okay, forgot to post this last night. I thought I already did. Without going to much into detail since I have to go to work soon. Here's a quick summary. Hawke, Bethany, Aveline, and Anders finally defeated Danzig and his gang. Advancing the "Wayward Son" questline. They now have to search the Wounded Coast for a cave. Hawke picked up a few quests like the "Bone Cave", finding the Viscount's son, and the "Magistrate's Orders". They did the Bone Cave quests and DRAGONS!!! Hawke and crew encountered dragonlings and some medium sized dragons in the mine. They slew the dragonlings and medium sized dragons and spoke to a survivor, he said there was a large dragon out on the ledge. Hawke an Co. went outside and defeated the large dragon. Hawke returned to Hubert and accepted a 50/50 ownership of the mine. She was then asked to tell the remaining workers to get back to work. She convinced them and the workers went back to work. I'll post more tonight.

Isabella, Varric, Bethany, Merril are all good companions for this quest, although Fenris is nice too. And Sarcastic Hawke is especially HILARIOUS for this quest.

Yes, there are three options. Since this is my first playthrough I usually pick what a good person would say to a fellow countrymen. With that said I picked the ask nicely option. Even though I try to be nice and concerned I do act sarcastic depending on the npc's attitude. As for your second question. Sadly I took only Bethany, Aveline, and Anders with me. The Bethany/Anders combo is deadly. I set up Bethany as a elemental mage, and Anders as the healer. Aveline is deadly up close and now that Hawke has new armor she doesn't die often anymore. Isabella and Merrill I find are weak and die often. Varric is good though. But since Anders came on board there is hardly anything to defeat Hawke and Co. As for the quest the adventurers went to the abandoned ruin. There were city guards camped outside. Then an elf came pleading the guards to kill the criminal because the criminal killed elven children, and had taken his daughter. The guards told him they were going to let the court decide. The elf spoke to Hawke and she replied she was gonna let the court decide. The elf begged her to kill the criminal. Hawke and the group entered, they were quickly attacked by undead. The deeper they went the more undead they fought and a demon. The group encountered an elven girl, she told them that even though he struck her, he did so under the influence of a demon, and she begged the group to spare his life. Hawke told her that the way to the exit was clear and that she should go, the elven girl left. The group then entered the last chamber and encountered a mage named Kelder. The mage told her that that the magistrate was in fact his father, and that he was possessed and that it was the demon who forced him to kill elven children because of their beauty. He begged Hawke to kill him. Hawke granted him his wish and killed him.

(Just as the Wayward Son quest's harbor part) Kelder isn't possessed, Kelder is a mad serial killer. The best choice to kill him, yes. (What difficulty you play on?)

The mage told her that that the magistrate was in fact his father, and that he was possessed and that it was the demon who forced him to kill elven children because of their beauty. He begged Hawke to kill him. Hawke granted him his wish and killed him. This quest good with Fenris. (Just as the Wayward Son quest's harbor part) Kelder isn't possessed, Kelder is a mad serial killer. The best choice to kill him, yes. (What difficulty you play on?) I play on normal difficulty. That is usually the difficulty I pick for most games.

Oops forgot to say. I knew Kelder wasn't possessed since he didn't turn into a demon. But it did seem like all those undead were protecting him. Or else how did he get by them?

This is a part of the Deep Roads, and also possible, that he's a mage. To be honest, I never dealt with this question. On the Deep Roads always appeared all kinds of monsters... In Kirkwall the Templars only cruel with the Circle Mages, the system is corrupt, Kelder's father is high-ranked noble. He practically untouchable ... was.

Well that makes sense. I did not know that ruin was apart of the Deep Roads. Thanks for the clarification.

We should not wonder WHY there are demons, but how both a little elven girl and a mad man managed to get past them without dying. It's possible it was demon free till his madness (extreme emotion) drew them over through the thinner veil prevalent through the area.

The concentrated use of magic can further weaken the veil. It's not excluded, that this miserable Kelder heard some demon whispers too... especially if he was a mage.

Nah, I really don't think he was a mage or he would have been taken over due to lack of will power a long time ago. not excluding that he didn't hear spirit whispers, though. Sometimes crazy people can be more in touch with the world than we thing, is a narrative I can get behind. It's possible Fear, Desire, and even compassion have spoken to him about his "needs'

When you talk to the Elf Father outside after killing Kelder, he's like, "I'm so glad you killed him! Are you sure he's dead?"
I was a sarcastic mage Hawke once and she said, "Well, we could bring him back to life and kill him again if that would make you happy."
Elf Father looked so damned shocked at the idea, oh my gosh, I laughed so hard. He was like, "Nah, I'm good...thanks"

But, in Kirkwall not excluded that he heard also demon whispers. We don't know, what was he, in addition to being privileged.
