It kinda feels like a Colonization game, not a Mass Effect game. And it VERY MUCH feels like Dragon Age in Space, which I think is taking the ME series in the WRONG DIRECTION!!! Go back to the ME2/ME3 roots and make ME4 in Andromeda just like the previous titles! Funny thing is that the game fails in the whole colonization theme I feel. Yeah that's how I feel too. I've created two outposts...and I feel like I'm halfway through the game. I have been introduced to three worlds. Really only the first outpost seems to have gotten the attention it deserves. The second outpost everyone kind of just ignored? Like now its not even important? and the leader on the nexus didn't even say anything about it.

Excellent.
I'm a sucker for resource gathering and side quests of all types-- yes, including the fetch quests. I loved the planet scanning feature in ME2 and I love the way they've transformed it into mining in MEA. I'm looking forward to spending countless hours just driving around in the Nomad solving mysteries, helping people, stripping the planets of minerals and ores, gathering data for various scientist, and, of course, doing my pathfinder thang. Sadly, everything is on hold for now due to the game crippling banter bug .

I've played about 30 hours now of the SP campaign and I'd have to say....I really dislike the Task quests, mainly because they don't clearly state which planet you have them left on.
Some of the sidequests have given me a chuckle but it hasn't been mind-blowing.

Oh my fucking god. We literally had a discussion in this thread about how its mechanics are the same everytime. No, story wise it wont be the same, just like how every side quest in Andromeda isnt the same story wise. You failed to see my point. I was talking about the Witcher Contracts. Not the other witcher side quests.

I will say though, that this is an improvement on DA:I despite being another DA:I.
Just the fact that a lot of quests begin with SAM notifying you about what the quest is about and Ryder asking about what it is adds some context. And, for what it's worth going around big areas in a Mass Effect game, with the Shepard armor on, makes this game feel pretty good, I must say. And iterating on the DA:I formula it succeeds in how much you can feel the progress of exploring each area, not necessarily because of viability points (although, this is a much better solution than the one-size-fits-all "POWER" score) but it goes really well hand in hand with the most interesting story-aspect of colonization in how you clear up planets from hazards and conflicts before settling an outpost and then you help that outpost until it's stable.
I was skeptical about the colonization metagame at first because I thought it would be as shallow as making Keeps in DA:I, but in DA:I there's a disconnect with the Keeps because the Skyhold felt like enough in a sense and I didn't always understand the significance of branching out to military forts, whereas in Andromeda, you always have the nexus and the other races to think of, so when I settle my outpost on Eos and come back later, the growth and newfound beauty on the planet really adds up to the sense that I'm making progress with the main goal of the series.
It's a shame this has a lower metascore than DA:I, although I understand why (DA:I at least felt more consistent and slightly more polished), because I really like this game more when it comes to what you're doing the majority of the time. It's grown on me. I'm not gonna lie.
The problem is the main plot's focus and honestly, I also feel like the game loses focus whenever I'm on the tempest. Why is Drack even here? Why should I care about Gil, or Kallo or Suvi? Why isn't this and the main plot more about the rest of the games's focus about settling down on planets and stuff? That is by far the most interesting aspect of the game and whenever I'm just driving around with PeeBee and Cora in the truck I feel more at home than I do when I'm waltzing around on my ship. Same with the Nexus. I'm starting to feel like the whole "Guy and his ship with his crew" as much as it's iconic to Mass Effect (or star trek) feels kind of forced for this story.

I dunno. I haven't gone past Eos yet, but it didn't take me all that long to clear the place out and set up the outpost. I breezed through it and already went above 70% viability. Maybe this planet is the exception, but I didn't really feel the time here like I did in the Hinterlands. Even the remnant puzzle is pretty simple (I really like the vault) Wait till you return later, then the side quests explode... all in all the whole planet easily reaches Hinterlands level of grind. The vault was interesting, though, I have to give them that. It REALLY doesnt though. Im more of a DA fan than ME, but the Hinterlands broke me completely. After trying for hours to complete it i just gave up, and ignored every bit of content besides companion and story quests. So after seeing how big Eos was my Andromeda goodwill sank to rock bottom and i was dreading to continue. After all, i couldnt stomach this crap in a setting im WAY more invested in, so what chance does Mass Effect have? Fast forward a bit, and i have almost 100 percented Eos, Havarl, and Kadara, and truly 100 percented Voeld, and it never felt like a grind at all. I just explore a planet, and solve all quests that are on the way. After im done, i complete the few leftovers in no time at all via fast travel. And i only "almost" 100 percented the first three planets because i refuse to do the four or five quests that expect you to search a planet without any direction or questmarkers. F those. But these are only 4 or 5 anyway, so no big loss. Im actually kinda perplexed right now. I hate grindy gameplay so much that i refuse to play JRPGs without cheats, and had an hour long discussion with someone about how it makes no sense to me that people like Destiny and Borderlands, but i had almost no problem with Andromeda while most of you guys do. Normally its the other way around. ^^

To an extent, all most all Nexus and outpost quests are crap. Kadara and New Tuchanka both have some great quests, while the main storyline is simplelly aweful.

Awfully cliched, above all, I mean, I knew from the first trailer that... ...the Kett are made from other aces like Angara via gene manipulation.

Loyalty missions, Ryder family secrets, main planetary arcs are all decent/good and above.
Other side quests though not so much. There's too many of them and they almost always lack cinematic presentation. In a game like this, it matters. They should cut on the number of them and improve their design/presentation in the sequel. Filling the map with dots just to make it look full is pointless. Especially as there's already a ton of pure collectible Tasks too (which should be in hidden layer actually, to do post-end-game or turned on only if the player really wants to, like many games started doing)

I would be genuinely curious about what people want instead. I'm personally ok with this MMO style. It allows me to spend more time in a story/universe I enjoy. There is no rush for me. Does it need to just be more combat? Does it need more sub gameplay mechanics? Should it be nothing but mass orgys of banging? Do you want more dialogue between characters? Serious question. MMO style is the operative word, meaning very little substance. One of the reasons I hate MMOs is due to the never ending mindless fetch quests, but different strokes, right? If you like it, that's cool. I need more substance of story. "I Remember Me" from the first game, Shepard talks to a Batarian slave victim and there are an amazingly large number of ways to play this simple little quest. This is what I want, character building stories on the side. So, yes, more dialogue, more varied game mechanics. MEA is slightly better than DAI when it comes to fetch quests, but only slightly. I will say that the vaults have been interesting as each one is varied enough. What I would love to see in a Mass Effect game are ME2 style sidequests with fleshed out dialogue and character development. Maybe we're playing a different game. There is more dialogue, more combat, more to see and do than any ME before it with fleshed out characters. No offense, but I seriously question how far some people are who are complaining.

My biggest gripe with the side quests/side content is not them per say, but the damn extraneous animations in the galaxy map, which makes it a slog if you're going from place to place for one or two quests(and having to return somewhere to complete it in numerous cases). Which is why I end up not going to somewhere until I have a bunch of quests to do or why clear out a planet of it's side quests before leaving.
The actual content itself is generally okay, with varying degrees of quality of course.
