I'm struggling to find a good biotic build. I'm about level 10. Singularity seems too slow to refresh, so was messing w/ Pull and Throw. Also tried Backlash - that helps keep me alive and buys some time. I'm on Hardcore. Usually I played ranged biotic in the other games. Shields are kind of annoying for me now.
What are some fun, synergistic builds? I'm ok w/ going w/ some Tech or Combat also. I only really have the Adept profile going now, so that may be gimping me.

I'm using Singularity, Pull and Lance. At the start I was using Singularity to set up explosions but, yeah, it has a bit of a long CD for that. So now I mostly use it for CC when I can catch a group. Pull and Lance both have a 10 sec. CD at base, I believe, so I use that for more frequent detonations. Other than those three, I've been putting points in all three biotic passives.
Lance is also decent for direct damage, and when I face heavy armor like fiends I combine it with Incendiary ammo for fire explosions. It's good times.

Backlash, Singularity and Lance are my active powers. I've also invested in all three passives. I'm much higher level than you are. It takes some time to start feeling capable, in terms of flinging about biotic power. Singularity primes everything within its radius, not just things it lifts. This is huge. Lance can be specced to run off of your barrier, eschewing a cooldown. Your barrier can also be specced to diminish this cost and replenish when you kill and opponent with biotics. Backlash is an awesome defensive power. You can really stand fast under heavy assault, deflecting the punishment right back at the attacker. I'm playing, at the moment, so sorry if this breakdown isn't very detailed.

I'm not a fan of lance, purely because it doesnt home in on targets like throw (and long lost Warp...oh how i miss thee).

hmm ok guys thanks for the suggestions. I've noticed Backlash is pretty good when out of ammo or facing a fast shooting foe. Has saved my butt a few times and the reflect damage is hilarious/useful.
I've re-spec'd twice and it's getting a bit more expensive everytime I do it. Wish I could find something really good, so many options. hmm ok guys thanks for the suggstions? my gun is crappy, using some random assault rifle. I honestly don't understand the crafting in the game.
in ME3, I was an Engineer using the Indra sniper rifle. I liked that but the sniper rifles here seem to kill my power cooldowns.
I need a 4th ability. I think that backlash is good enough to keep for defensive options. I haven't put any in combat b/c I'm not sure which weapon to use. Already re-spec'd twice and it's getting more expensive.
My big question is: is having Singularity plus AoE Pull redundant? And are there ways to really cut down the Singularity cooldown time? IT's horrendous. I've tried Lance but I wish it homed in and wasn't directional.

Redundant? Not to me. Pull is much more efficient to set up combos on mooks. Singularity is for CC or priming armored targets.
Singularity gets a possible 35% recharge reduction in its tree. The Offensive Biotics tree gives a variable amount or reduction at rank 2 and a flat 15% possible at rank 4. The Vanguard profile offers recharge reduction, up to 35% at tier 6 I believe. You can also get some small amounts from putting augmentations in your weapons and armor.
With Lance remember that it can also get headshot bonuses, which is great for anyone that can aim better than I can. Throw is a good alternative is you just want a detonator.

I had Adept first too, but went for Sentinel with Throw, Overload and Cryo Beam (and the Mattock) as fast as I could. I can combo myself off a lot. Since squadmate management basically doesn't exist anymore it's a good enough way for me to go. Throw detonates Cryo, Throw detonates Overload, rinse and repeat as you see fit Do combos with squadmates whenever they prime something. Some armor you can craft offers faster cooldown and there's some improvements in the passive branches too.

I go back from Charge/Lance/Annihilation and Charge/Lance/Nova. But I'm playing a vanguard with an asari sword. The closest you can be to truly being a badass in this game.

Playing on Insanity atm and using Push, Lance and Singularity. I focus on the Assault Rifle also.
Once a group is in Singularity or even 1 person, the combos just go off with push and lance lol! It's hilarious. Also with Push, lance triggers off of this as well which is devastating. The only issue at the start are enemy shields, so be sure to use ammo to remove them quickly.

Research and development; go to any Research area and look at the weapons you can research. You need a certain amount of research data (Milky way/Heleus/Remnant) in order to research said weapons. Then, in development, after you have researched them, you just need to build/craft them when you have the necessary resources for them (and it's listed under the weapon how much is needed). I made a Black Widow yesterday and an N7 Hurricane the day before. Also, you can name your weapon. It doesn't have to be the normal name.

I'm level 36 Adept. Almost finished the game. Started on normal and finishing on hardcore. IMO the game was designed around the multiplayer classes which are by far the most effective / optimal builds. Stick with BioWare's own suggestions and not only can you not go wrong... it's good practice for multiplayer.
My favorites:
1. Human Kineticist (Pull, Singularity, Throw) - Shield Damage (distance) 2. Human Vanguard (Charge, Nova, Shockwave) - Armor Damage (close range) 3. Asari Adept (Throw, Annihilation*, Lance) - Shield Damage (close range)
Powers Recommendations & tips:
Do not neglect passives. Max out these before anything else as you will do significantly more damage even with low level powers. Don't bother with other tech trees so you can rank up the adept profile as high and fast as possible. Build one highly focused favorite profile at a time and you'll be much more effective (better primers & detonators = better explosions). Seismic Nova lets you prime for explosions Active Barrier replenishes your barrier 10 percent for every biotic kill. Skip Backlash - it's a sentinel power imo.
Pull (Radius, Expose, Anti-shields) Throw (Radius, Recharge Speed*, Swift Detonation) Charge (Radius, Power Synergy, Bastion) Nova (Force & Damage, Anti-armor, Seismic Nova) Shockwave (Damage & Force, Recharge Speed, Anti-armor) Annihilation (Radius, Damage Attractor, Draining Field) Singularity (Radius, Anti-shield, Expanding Singularity) Lance (Radius, Anti-shield, shield-powered*)
Barrier (Unyielding Barrier, Biotic Link, Active Barrier**) -** Essential for durability of Fav 1 & 3 Offensive Biotics (Alacrity*, Detonation, Biotic Expert) Containment (Radius, Shield-detonation, Event Horizon*)
*To enhance the effectiveness (i.e. synergy) of Annihilation

Right now on insanity I'm using Singularity, Throw, and Lance.
While Singularity does have a longer cooldown, the nice thing about it is that it can prime multiple targets as well as CC them and pull them out of cover and then I double combo with Throw and Lance. You just have to make sure to hit different targets because you won't get back to back explosions on the same target.
With guns, I got myself a Carnifex early on to fill in the gaps between cooldowns and then crafted myself a Valkyrie(recommended to use a mod with stability to make the recoil easier to handle). They can keep cooldowns light, or if I want a heavier hitting build I now have a Dhan shotgun and Black Widow. To be honest, there hasn't been many assault rifles that felt like they did any decent damage as an adept on insanity.

Thanks guys for all the good tips, will look into them. I was using Backlash a bit since I was running out of Ammo. It sure seems to be helpful to stay alive, but it's not that fun. It's hilarious though watching fast-shooing enemies' health drop fast.
So some of you are saying AoE Pull and Singularity can work together then (they serve different functions.) I did evolve Pull to take off some enemy shields as well, so I think that will help.
I haven't messed w/ the Vanguard profile or Charge. Would need to re-spec for that. How squishy and dangerous though does Charge make things, at least on higher level difficulties? I messed w/ a Vanguard on Hardcore in ME2 and died a lot lol.
Yeah I want a Sniper Rifle I think, or a better SMG. I need a mod to take down the weight of the sniper rifles though. Do you guys invest in Combat passives for your weapon type of choice?

One update question: I ran into a high-powered Kett w/ a floating orb thing-y (Cardinal?) My biotics did JACK against it. I had pull, throw and Backlash only.
What's the deal with those? Took me forever to kill it w/ just my gun.

I personally like more sentinel builds. I have 2 favorites, 1 with Energy Drain/Incinerate/Throw with ED specc'd to prime and Incinerate specc'd to detonate. With this, I have two primers, 3 detonators, anti-shield and anti-armor. With this favorite I have a Sentinel profile. The second favorite uses ED (specc'd like the first favorite) with Singularity and throw, using the Adept profile. This gives me 2 primers, 2 detonators, and a nice CC option. I mostly use Favorite 1 vs smaller groups of well-protected enemies (lots of shield and or armor) and Favorite 2 vs larger groups of mooks. Works quite well, all told.

Well I just dumped Backlash (useful but kinda boring) and went 5 levels into Singularity and rank 3 of all biotic passives. I like how Singularity sticks around even if you get a combo off of it - and I also spec'd throw for a faster cooldown - but now I kinda have 2 primes and 1 detonator. Is that bad?
Singularity does recharge pretty slow now - and i don't know what to do if I get rushed. I kinda have to rely on throw recharging super fast. Running w/ Cora and Vetra but not sure if they are the best for a biotic.
I may dip into the sentinel pool as the above poster just suggested, but I thought I might get some more feedback about what works for others. I'm used to ranged biotic and haven't done much charging in any of the games yet.

Best close in support squaddies I've found so far. If you're set up to detonate off your own setups, meaning you don't necessarily need a squadmate helping with the detonations, then these two are great all rounders. If you want a squad that'll give close support plus help detonate, bring Drack and Cora. Make sure you tell her to attack the guy you just primed, so she'll charge in and things go boom.

My big question is: is having Singularity plus AoE Pull redundant? Absolutely not, pull can do more than just lift enemies to set them up for a combo, you can hold the button to pull an enemy in and melee them which is a one shot kill most of the time. Also with throw you chuck them at other people doing heavy damage depending on your force%(it's an instant kill for both grunts with a lvl3 adept profile on normal). You can also pull and throw explosive canisters doing large amounts of damage and priming anyone caught in the blast, if they survive. Since their cooldown is so low they're almost always up and very reliable, i love it!
