If the Sandstorm didn't force a scope on you i would maybe like it more.

Don't quote me on this, since it's mostly observational without any in-game numbers to back it up. But I think one of the reasons I hear some people hating on the Sandstorm is that it does its best work with headshots. Well, everything does, obviously, but the Sandstorm seems to have a higher "weak point" multiplier or something. The times I can get reliable headshots, the Sandstorm absolutely destroys targets. When enemies are on the move and headshots are less reliable, the Sandstorm isn't quite as punchy feeling. That's why I also take the Hornet, for the fairly decent "body shot" DPS. 3-4 bursts kill almost all basic enemies without needing to be head-shot accurate all the time. To be fair, I played a Vanguard and was looking for a solid auto or semi-auto rifle that I could use on the move to strip shields. The Sandstorm was... less than ideal in this regard. But anyway at this point (Vanguard level 5 profile) my biotic punch does more DPS than any gun I have. I still carry them to fight the heavy hitters or stuff that's at range, but Ryder's right hook is the deadliest son of a bitch in space! I will grant you that. It's not ideal for shields. Rapid fire weapons seem to do better vs shields than semi-autos. I play as a "soldier with extra tools," as I said earlier, so I have other ways of stripping shields. Energy drain + Throw is great for tech bursts, and that strips shields off anything it hits. Couple of decent shots with the Sandstorm then puts 'em down. Or, alternately, if ED is on cooldown, Hornet to strip shields, incinerate + throw for fire burst. It's a setup that handles all defenses really well, and for the big bastards with lots of armor, I have the Sidewinder + fire combos. I will say that my choice of weapons is really in part due to the synergy I have with my powers, so they may not be the best for other playstyles.

Sandstorm is kinda one of those weapons that fits in-between niches. It's not a sniper, and it's not a room sweeper. But it's light, accurate, easy to handle, and is great at long to medium distances, while still giving you the weight capacity for a short range room sweeper and another weapon if you want. Plus it's got the ROF to compensate for a missed shot, and carries 15 rounds per clip at the lowest level. Sandstorm is just a very nice weapon all around. Totally agree, that's exactly what it is. I used to play the ME trilogy as the default Soldier Shepard and almost always used the Pistol / Rifle + steroids build (Turbocharge and Pistols in ME1, Mattock and Adrenaline rush in ME2, ME3 was a bit different though), and that fits that style in Andromeda just fine. I uploaded a quick video of my build on Youtube, since I just finished the Flagship mission, I found the last section to be pretty hectic and fun, so here it is. Hope it might give some people ideas.

Nice vid! I tend to play on Normal my first playthrough, get a feel for a new game's mechanics. NG+ I'll definitely be jumping to hardcore/insanity. Normal is a bit of a cakewalk at this point. I tend to have a few more combo explosions going off than you do, since my power set is different, but that's very similar to how I play. I tend to advance just a bit more, try to flank, etc, but I haven't gotten to that particular fight yet. Instead of the pistol you have, I go with the Sidewinder, since it has a higher base damage and higher ROF, and with a clip-size mod, you get a decent number of shots per reload. I'm actually tempted to put a VHS on it, with as many clip size mods as I can, see if it works well.

Thanks, I actually went through my inventory at the end of the video, and you can see the Sidewinder is there, it's a great weapon that for playstyle as well, and I sometimes swap the Phalanx or Hornet for it. I used to have a bunch of power combos too (Pull / Singularity and Incinerate / Concussion Shot), but they tend to not scale as well with your level, and sadly Invasion and Turbocharge are neither detonators or primers (the turrent can prime though).

Any of the SMG's in my experience. Currently doing a Sniper/SMG run at the minute, and the only half-decent SMG i've found is the Hornet. The rest of them are weak AF. So much so that i've switched to using a Carnifex as my second weapon. Also, +1 for the Valkyrie, my favourite AR of the game You're pretty much the only one I've heard say that they don't like the Hurricane. Probably because it's excellent. I'll give it another crack tonight. Perhaps i'm just being grumpy.

Avoid all automatic weapons basically, they are all pretty weak, tbf beyond the black widow and piranha I can't really think of any other good gun in the game.

Soned Assault Rifle aka Kett Minigun, avoid the thing like the plague. Hits like an Avenger and kicks like a horse without stability mods. Not to mention you need 100 Eiroch Fluid to craft WTFLOL. Lastly, I tried this this with grenade, sticky nade and laser mods all are BAD
Save your materials for better guns this this

Some of the SMG's are not bad. Even on Hardcore or Insanity? Hornet and Sidewinder are actually pretty good on Hardcore. Haven't tried Insanity yet, but a few missions in Hardcore have shown me just how easy Normal is. And so far, Hardcore isn't that much worse.

If you're putting the grenade mod onto any weapon for anything other than aesthetics, then you're doing it wrong. It is among the most useless mods to put on a gun - it cuts the damage down far too drastically... it's amusing if you use it on casual where it can actually kill enemies without trouble.. but on hardcore or insanity you will be firing for an eternity to kill anything with it.
Try the PAW without the grenade mod.. it is.. adequate I would say.. with the grenade mod it becomes useless.
Best weapon to me hands down is still the N7 Hurricane. Light, high ROF, lethal at short range, respectable at medium range, good ammo supply and solid damage. Stick a an aerial damage augment on it and it is obscenely lethal when fired while hovering. Alternatively try vintage heat sink with ammo capacity mod plus some points in the ammo expanding combat skills and you have a gun that seldom overheats and can tear enemies down swiftly without ammo issues (ammo is an issue on insanity I'm finding, runs out fast between resupplies).

Sandstorm? Really? It's one the most, if not the most, powerful semi-autos in the game. It's very accurate as well. With a scope it's on par with some sniper rifles. I definitely concur, I ran through most of the game with the Sandstorm, Sidewinder and Vanquisher. Not the best or most powerful weapons in terms of damage, but decent all rounders who make up for it with more shots per clip, large ammo pool and high accuracy. Found it very easy to get consistent headshots with all three weapons (assuming you mod the Sidewinder to use a scope).
