It's a shame they didn't use it any more. It would have been cool if they had used it after major plot points.
I also really like symmetry, so it would have been cool to have the main story end with the Tempest jumping to FTL and something like "DAY 257; HOUR 17".

It would but I think it'd be hard to fit events into a timeline. It's the same with the previous games and the events that took place within their respective game.

I agree, it would have been nice to have a better sense of the passage of time in the game.

That would be nice to have. The tempest heads to Kadara. Day 27 hour 13. Or whatever number Bioware wants to use.

BTW, nobody starts counting at 0.
If you wanna be off by 1, then sure. I guess you can. But nobody starts counting at zero.

Military time the day starts at midnight...0000.
Also, considering the time being shown was the instant you entered Andromeda, the time would have been 0 hour as no hours had passed.

That's fine. If you have dinner five hours before midnight, what time do you have dinner? According to you, we eat dinner at five o'clock every morning. Now yeh. I'm all too familiar with how they use 24:00:00 as a use for midnight although it never appears. The furthest that clock goes is 23:59:59 before it rolls over to 00:00:00. Which means that it is still off by one. What part of this don't you get?

Agreed. It would be nice to add some sense of time. It came up in a discussion with a friend of mine couple of days ago, and I was wondering how long does it take to FTL between the planets for us. It must be couple of months by start of the Kadara, I guess, with the total arc taking 6-12 months.

Nobody starts counting at zero unless they wanna be off by one. Pretty much every person working in computer sciences starts counting at zero. If you don't you're often off by one.

I liked this detail as well but strongly suspected it was a plot device. I kinda expect in DLC or a sequel we will see this return especially if it makes a significant jump forward. Could totally see the next game starting with: Year 10; Day 35; Hour 12. To me this was one of the earliest hints they may be jumping ahead throughout the series.

I've been in and around the US Navy as both active duty and as a DoD civilian for the last 25 years...so I'm a bit familiar with military time and how it works.

Now, I'll assume english is not your native language, so that's fine. As for the rest, the standard rule is to start counting at zero, not one, otherwise you will be off by one. Just do the math yourself. By that logic, you can't have 0.5 seconds, WTH? If the arks arrived in Andromeda at that moment, it's obvious it was zero day, zero hour, because it didn't pass one hour yet, much less one day, so anything less than 1 hour is zero hour, that means, 10 minutes, 20, 40, 55, 59.

I would think the passage of time would have to be purposely ambiguous, since you can do a lot of the missions in whatever order.
...unless there was a counter based on all the space travel you do?

There should just be a time amount for each mission or mission step, and as you complete them they are added to the total. Of course it wouldn't be 100% perfect, but it would be a fun way to add flavor to the game...and honestly only pedantic assholes looking for a reason to whine would complain it's not accurate.

That's fine. Then get me mathematically to 1700 from 23:59 and not a minute sooner or after knowing that dinner is served five hours before 00:00.
I dunno. I don't really care if your drill instructor pulled this little trick on you.
I'm done.
