Used to be into both whilst strongly leaning towards ME(i prefer sci-fi over fantasy generally) but I've "retired" from DA after 2 and never bought DAI.

I actually started of with DAI as I got it free when I joined EA. I then researched the two other DA games and got them. I also found out about ME, while looking into that and saw footage of Male Shepard/Kaidan romance I was sold.

Much more into Mass Effect. It's tied with the Elder Scrolls for favorite franchise.
As for Dragon Age, I'm only into Origins really. I adored that game once I finally got into it and it's easily one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Dragon Age 2 has a lot of faults, but there are parts of that game I thought were great like the friendship/rival system and the departure from the PC being the savoir of the world. It's easily the worst put together game of the series, but I don't think it deserves the hate it got on release. I actually dislike Inquisition quite a bit and never understood all the praise it got from fans and critics. The main story irks me (the PC gets his/her powers because the big bad had a case of butterfingers) and the way they tried to "tackle" themes of faith and spirituality fall flat the moment things were starting to get interesting. Mostly its biggest sin is just that it's boring. The Inquisitor lacks any real charisma and was greatly overshadowed by a cast of characters that were more interesting than the PC could ever hope to be.

I'm going to say Dragon Age because I've played the Origins and Inquisition and they were great. Andromeda is my first game in the ME series and I haven't played the first three. Which will probably change when I get done with MEA

At the moment equally both pretty much. They both have similar companion system, dialogues and story-telling to me that I like. There is times where I have valued one over another, but overall it's pretty much same.

I prefer approval system cause you can have different relationship with different characters in different playthroughs that way. I'm currently playing DAI both with elf that is romancing Solas and human who doesn't get along with him at all and punched him just recently. Though I see benefits of not having approval and not having to worry about it as well.

Only Mass Effect. I've actually never played Dragon Age. Although, since I've just renewed my Origin Access I might well give it a whirl. Any advice? Play Origins. Download all the mods from Nexus Mod Manager is you're on the PC. I highly recommend the Winter Forge if you really love customizing armor and weapons. WARNING: The graphics aren't bad, but they're definitely not even close to the scale of Inquisition. Areas are divided into zones and I also recommend turning on highlighting items if you're a completionist. DO NOT READ ANY SPOILERS. Play the game straight through the first time. I am willing to bet you will look up spoilers to help craft an ending you really want. At least, that's what happened to me. Origins, to me, is the standard bearer for RPGs. I know every Witcher 3 is going to go ballistic, but creating your own Hero of Ferelden just sits better with me.

Played DAO first, got ME2 later. Definitely Mass Effect now tho, it just has more consistent story and characters and, gameplay-wise, is BY FAR more comfortable and fun to play.
Except for ME1, hate those glorious days of Maco-ing wastelands with nothing to interact with whatsoever.

Dragon Age 2 is even smaller in scale and even lesser character choices, but... Hawke is an awesome narrator and you'll appreciate Varric and company. Just keep in mind that you're whole story takes place in about five reusable areas.

And take advantage of the tactics system. There is nothing more satisfying watching a battle occur from the side without having to do much of anything with the AI taking over. Watching Morrigan shapeshift one second and then throw a heal on an NPC ally who is 50% low on health is pretty awesome while Alistair is gathering enemies in front of him using taunt. The killing cinematic is going to be so cool when it's triggered on its own by an ally.

I voted for both equally.
Although if we're talking about those franchises beyond the games themselves I do think DA has far better tie-in media.

Also a fan of both, though Dragon Age has always been my favorite of the two.
Each of the DA games I feel have different strengths, but I've enjoyed all of them. I think the worldbuilding they've done for this franchise, the handling of its mysteries, the history, the people has been fantastic. The ME setting, while certainly interesting in its own right, never quite had that... "magic" the DA setting had for me.
The cast as well. Both have very strong casts, but the the DA games (at least the first two) had casts that just resonated a little stronger with me. I felt like the cast in DAI wasn't as strong as the 2 prior games, but still much stronger than, say... MEA's cast, which simply didn't resonate with me at all.
Combat... I like both shooters and fantasy RPG combat, so I can find the fun in both styles. My hope though is that DA adopts a more visceral combat system in the future, as I feel needs more punch to it. If they were to lean more towards a ME: Shadow of War "feel" to it, I'd be a happy camper. Playing Doom made me miss the glory kills/cinematic finishers from DAO's days. There's certainly lessons to be learned there.
The writing has been strong in both the MET and (at least the first 2 DA games). DAI felt a little weaker, though the strong Trespasser DLC made up for some of that and definitely left me wanting more. MEA though... I dunno. It never reeled me in, and I'll leave it at that.

Even still I'm waiting for ME: A to go on sale, before I pick it up. I suspect, they are going to fix the graphical bugs it has first. But I don't know that, just suspect it.

But I don't know that, just suspect it. Hah. Those animation 'glitches' aren't glitches but anyway. The people are just the worst most garbage portions of the species that were pumped out during the Reaper War to 'escape'. The truth? Humanity just wanted them all dead for their hideous facial features, their personalities, and of course their piss poor ability to actually ya know...do anything with any semblance of confidence. Really the entire expedition was designed to be as lethal and precise as a firing squad. They were only given a year's worth of supplies on the fake Citadel even. This is my take on ME:A

I played both trilogies and the recent Mass Effect Andromeda, but didn't go far into the lore as I did in Mass Effect. I guess I need a couple more plays to remember something about Dragon Age(Hey, that's that character, he did such thing) While in ME, I can instantly remember any name I've ever listened to. And yeah, I did read every single book and comic out there relating to Mass Effect. Even Blasto's
